Inside Russia’s Post-Sanctions Premium Supermarket. Western Brands Unveiled

Hi everyone my name is Tanya welcome to my channel where I talk about Russian culture and everyday life I’m continuing a new series on post sanctions Russia Today the 15th of uh February so it’s been almost 2 years and in my previous video uh you can watch what’s happening

In fast food today I’m going to show you a premium Russian supermarket called asuk of Kusa which basically means the alphabet of taste uh I’m going to start with it because it has the biggest variety of uh goods from uh pretty much all over the world so let’s see if

Sanctions work if uh Russians still have Coca-Cola and other brands let’s start so it’s been almost 2 years of sanctions and let’s see if we will be able to find brands that have officially left rushers such as Coca-Cola so here we have a shell with Beverages and while we don’t only have

Coca-Cola there’s also a variety for instance with the zero sugar and even different bottles one of them is from Denmark the other one is uh from Turkey there’s also one from Poland in the middle of this one cost 160 rubles and the small ones are

For 200 and as you can see these are new ones so it’s Parish 2024 so they were clearly brought after the sanctions if you want a rational alternative there’s only like one bottle at the end and it’s 6 wall so it’s approximately like three times cheaper even more than actually three times

Cheaper there are some other drinks are from the UK like gin tonic uh even from Australia like this is actually surprising for 300 rbl below there is more color 250 rubles and uh one of them is from the UK the other one is from Italy you see these are pretty much like the

Same botles but they have different uh prices and the packaging is a bit different uh so this one is also from the UK 250 there are more Alternatives iron not Russian ones and then below we have more Coca-Cola a little bit of Pepsi which is cheaper this one is 100 rubles and then

Cola is 140 rubles and also classic andz these are from aeran and below are bigger botles from Georgia so it’s not even a variety of oh look at the Georgia language it’s not even a variety of uh drinks but also the variety of countries have you ever seen

Such a variety in your country so there are more Dr Pepper funter from Poland the United States let’s take a look at something else so here and uh we have Soder fori from Georgia there’s more it looks like a little bit like per year a bit cheaper so per

Year is obviously from France there is more 200 rubles I mean obviously everything is more expensive uh now than it used to be and definitely it’s more expensive than in France and in other countries but I mean let me know if you’re surprised to actually see it in Russia

Energize so there is Thailand uh Vietnam we like even travel in the world here because you also have Asia Europe but let’s see which country would be the leader if you have any guesses let me know in the comments uh so far I think that it’s Italy seems like Italians I love

Russians here we have a lot of pasta if you’re from Italy by the way let us know if you’re still into Russia or not or if you hate us it’s fine uh well pasta all types this one is 500 rubles below by the way you know about

Marketing So Below you have like cheaper ones uh so the prices are like from 200 rubl up to up to 500 here we have the most expensive ones for 1,000 rbl well this is also Italiana although this one says uh Germany I don’t know why like it seems like the same

Brand so again there’s a lot a lot more from from Italy like uh all types of Italian pasta 279 rubles let me know what’s the price in your country 298 R balls and then we also have Jamie Oliver does Jamie know that you can get his pster in Russia what would Jamie say

About it his pster is 400 RS in Russia so we even so here we have glutenfree pasta seems like Russians also care about gluten sugar free lactose free and things like that 250 rubles even salt in this place is kind of fancy so I have like French salt for

439 salt and sugar Italian sugar there is more sugar for 400 rubles uh it’s with a discount like don’t miss this chance to buy your sugar or $4 instead of like five well it’s even more expensive now oh we even have South Africa so this is the first time I see

African products which is not really common well we obviously have Russian ones this is also all from South Africa but so far it seems like there’s less from Russia Pakistan yeah Russia so here we have Russia um then there’s Germany soara of 250 eight uh again I will just say that

Obviously this is not a typical Supermarket it’s a premium segment so you won’t find such a variety in other places but again you’re still able to get um many many Brands many products in moscar h iy 9,000 rles there is more did hany leave Russia or not here’s the

Question so here we have a section with beer seems like Germany is the leader so all of these beers are from Germany and they’re around the same price uh starting from 200 rubl yeah those are also for 200 rubl and then the maximum is 32 9 Ralls below we have honey the

Netherlands some other Bots from Netherlands the Czech Republic over there more from the Czech Republic um all those SP is for 200 rues and yeah the question is do we have Russia in here this is Finland a pulta uh Finland more Germany there is Italy again Italy I hope you’re counting yeah

How many countries and what we have well Belgium is definitely also one of the biggest beer producers 238 rubles and then 200 rubles or Belgium and there is Corona for 200 there are some surprising countries like Thailand Slovakia well Spain it’s not a well again it’s quite surprising for Russia

To see France all of it and there is also beer with berries from France and Belgium 200 rols and by the way the question is uh do we have anything from Russia or there some big berries clearly from Belgium blanch bril 500 rubles as for Russia

Like do you see anything in here no like we have to just look down like somewhere at the bottom you will be able to find it how many people actually look down below so all these are Russian and only this one clearly looks Russian it’s uh 70 rubles

So again like Russian Brands would be uh four times cheaper than there is there’s are also Russian like craft beers uh bit more expensive like twice more expensive um 120 rubles that’s it yeah the rest uh is not it’s really I don’t know if it’s shocking for

You but we actually have more products from other countries than actually from Russia can you imagine it I mean again if you want to see a regular Supermarket let me know oh here’s my guilty pleasure I’m a big fan of harabor so we didn’t

Have it for like over a year and now you can get it like this one is a German one uh 265 200 Ralls there is more there’s some frange gummies uh also German those are not a cheap 40089 rubles so in some other like supermarkets in some other places you

Will also find haror U from Turkey Spain so it will be from all over the world so here we have some like Russian candies let’s see what else well we also have lint uh this one says Italy Zeno I mean it’s not an Italian company so I German or Austrian so again

Italians love Russia so much so we can bring it from it oh maybe they don’t know about it here is Belgium Armenia here we go luxury Armenian chocolate so we have some sweets uh Italy Spain uh again it’s more expensive uh this is Austria seems like the European Union

Almost all the European Union is in here but just bit more expensive more Italian ones and here we have French tea called cosm tea let’s take a look at the names Anastasia Russian name apparently this one is named after Russian princess St Petersburg and here you go Prince

Vladimir well the good thing for them is that they didn’t call it Zar vladimer but apparently it’s popular in Russia so well you have some other this is not a cheap oh Prince Vladimir is with a discount apparently he has some rough times 2,000 rubles and then there’s a

Cheaper version of prince Vader 1,000 730 rubles in my previous video I talked about a Starbucks that is now Stars coffee in Russia don’t miss it and here we still have Starbucks uh from Denmark 300 R and then next to it we have Costa Coffee well we have uh cost coffee which

Is from the UK 250 R well some people actually call Russians Stars coffee zaris coffee whatever you think is the best well this one is 300 rues so again seems like there’s no shortage or anything the only shortage can be the shortage of money sanctions were mainly against like Rich Russian people nor

Ordinary People so what do you think do these sanctions work or not let me know in the comments are you surprised or not or did you expect to see all of it um I’m going to show you more of Russian supermarkets in my next video so please

  1. Just finding watching Tanya's new video.Very interesting, the variety of goods and brands from all around the world that are available from companies that have suspended trading there.Very enlightening thank you Tanya.

  2. Thank you, Tanya, for being an impartial voice from Russia. You're on a mission and you're a very brave girl. I wish you had more subscribers. But people got tired listening about the wars, and supporting Ukraine is not as en vogue anymore ))), as you can see from the US attitude.

  3. Sanctions only apply to direct export sales from manufacturers. If stores are able to source the product third party via other markets (in other words, product sold to countries that aren't under sanction, and then the importer in that country wholesales the product into Russian markets), then they'll be able to do so and pass the increased cost on to consumers. That explains the imported Coke products and the associated pricing. Maybe imported items were always more expensive in Russia, but the prices she's noting are typically double what I'm paying locally, using the Italian pasta items as an example. I suspect that is an indication of the redirected product and the additional handling costs.

  4. I would love to see a video of a regular supermarket in Russia and learn more about everyday life in Russia. I was wondering, if you were to go to an everyday non upscale Russian supermarket would the products mainly be Russian? You have sparked my curiosity but I’ll just ask one question for now! Thank you for the video I can’t wait to see more!❀
