Exploring the Ancient Theater at Hierapolis

Alright. So, we wanna   go to the theatre in Pamukkale. And there’s the entrance that way, we think.  So, let’s go. That’s about another fifty meters high.  Pretty good steep incline. I picked a  good path. If you hear a body thunking,  it’s us falling over the side,  which isn’t gonna happen.

So, let’s just make our walk up here. There’s kind of steps, but not really.  And again, we’ve I got a  little bit of altitude here.  This looks like it might have  been a ticket booth, remnants of.  Pretty amazing. Oh, more theater goers. It seems like it got steeper.

It definitely got steeper. We’re  gonna feel this in our calves later.  How you doing back there? Incredible view.  Gotta imagine before the earthquake in  7th century, this was amazing as a city.  Probably of white marble sandstone,  bushes, trees, people, cooking.  All gone. Just the remnants.  Alright. Let’s go higher. In a minute.

Alright. Breaks over. Back to work.  Up to the theater. We gotta go up and up and up.  And there’s hang gliders coming. And I think they’re coming off the top that   mountain. That’ll come into view here momentarily. Man, it just keeps going up.

We are in the mountains of Turkey,  and they definitely keep going up.  Theater. See what it looks like behind us now.  That looks like an ancient wall,  maybe a cliff or maybe just a wall.  Then Cleopatra’s pools are that way. You can see a little bit of white in

The distance, not the far distance,  but in the near, near distance.  Alright. So, we’re at the theater. We made it up the hill and see   what this looks like. This is a fairly sizable theater.  You can hear their clapping with the echoes. I got a feeling from up here. You

Can hear it pretty good. Your voice is way down there.  This is the theater at Pamukkale. This has taken a lot of damage over   the years. They’ve rebuilt it. There’s history pictures.  If you look in 1955, it didn’t  look anything like this.

There was just damage everywhere. Blocks,  grass, trees growing in the seats.  Down in the stage, you’d see grass  down below. Pretty interesting.  A little soccer game maybe  could happen down there.  I’m guessing, uh, thirty meters across is what  that is, but they really started rebuilding this.

And I don’t think they’re done. They  usually, in Turkey right now have been   absolutely doing crazy rebuilding things. This is the new place to come for ancient   antiquities and watch the difference. The younger you are, I’d say come now.   If you’re older, get here soon.  Uh, really, really cool stuff.

So, make sure you visit this theater in Pamukkale. And definitely check out the other ones.  Often the distance, I can  see white that is not snow.  That is the mineral deposits from the thermal  springs, the top part of it, and I could see a

Little bit more of it out that. You could see it in the video   really good, but it’s out there. And we are up pretty high and you can see   there’s a double mountain range across the valley. It’s a huge valley. And just imagine Romans coming

From the east, the east would be that way. The west is that way. I’m sorry. They would   come from the west. I got that wrong. The Mongols would come from the east.  I don’t know if they came that far the Romans  and Greeks all came down the valley that way,

And this was an old Roman settlement,  Hierapolis lot of history behind this.  I wish I could say it verbatim. Um, but again,  I’ll leave some links in the description.  So, you can look up the history for yourself  because this this is just, just breathtaking.

I can sit here for so long and just look at rocks  and just imagine what it might have looked like   more than 1500 to 2000 years ago. Absolutely incredible.  Hey, we’re looking for hot dogs down  here. Hot dogs, hot dogs, peanuts.  Maybe some lamb. Have you  got some lamb? Egg? Bread?

They don’t have this in Las Vegas! I think that’s worse than Stadium seating.  Definitely.
