NBA Experience Demolition, Soarin’ Over California Closing, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Update
Let the magic begin. Not a place on the back of a state of mind. It exists wherever people breathe and wonder and imagine. It’s not so much a theme park in the state of modern Hollywood. It never was and will always be back to our TV. This is news today with
News today I’m Tom Corliss of wdwnt.com. Please like this video. Subscribe and hit the notification bell to make sure you never miss the latest from the Disney theme parks around the world. Here. Now the news for February 21st, 2024. After we saw at the Magic Kingdom that the flume had been filled with
Water a few days ago, log ride vehicles are now visible in the flume at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. There was no water in the flume this time when we stopped by, but a series of the vehicles were at least sitting in the flume, albeit dry. The logs are the same vehicles that
Were used for Splash Mountain, of course. However, they have been modified. They’ve clearly been refurbished in place. As you can see, those rubber sections look, pretty neat and clean. There are other spots where maybe not so much. The big change, obviously, is, the bear rabbits are gone. Obviously we expected this.
But they have not been replaced with anything either, so they’ve simply sort of sand it over where the rabbits on the front of the log were. Don’t worry, folks, they were all destroyed. They had to make sure that I believe the word on the street was, it had to be filmed, to ensure
That every bear rabbit was destroyed so none would survive from the attraction. But nonetheless, yeah, they’re not there. The small posts on the back of the logs already existed for pulling the vehicles when necessary, but they had red tags on them that said, rejected. We don’t know exactly what
The designation meant in this case, but nonetheless, the logs were sitting there. Hopefully doesn’t mean they sank to the bottom. That’s why they’re there. Who knows? But nonetheless, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open this summer at the Magic Kingdom. No exact date has been announced, but obviously we are seeing all these steps happening
That are, the steps just before you start testing with people in the logs. Or at least the sand bags are coming next. The ice cold hydraulics kiosk at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is now open after construction walls came down earlier in the week. The new Coca-Cola stand in the Los
Angeles themed Grand Avenue outside of Muppet Vision 3DS courtyard, and as well the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge entrance. Is, it looks like a car. It’s like a place where they work on cars, a mechanic shop. The special menu items are the candy painted cinnamon rolls and the bouncing mini churros,
Regular cinnamon rolls, mini churros, Mickey shaped pretzels, popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream products are also available. We tried the new items being their candy painted cinnamon Roll three pack and the bouncing mini churros, as well as a classic, the frozen Jack and Coke. I could read the review a12.com.
You can also watch Nana and I try all these items right here on our channel in a brand new video. But ice cold hydraulics now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In a conversation on Twitter, former Imagineers Frank Testa and Jim Schull confirmed that it canceled Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Creature could still be
Created or added to the park. Many pieces of concept art have popped up over the years. She would have been a giant, mechanical creature that would carry as many as six guests around Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Hollywood studios. It was designed to be a relative of
The bantha, a tattooing creature that has been featured in Star Wars since the very first film visit. Testa previously confirmed she was scrapped due to budget, and Jerry Rees expressed hope she could still be incorporated into the land. In a response on February 18th, tester wrote yes, we worked on this
For over a year and it was pretty far along, but it got cut as a cost saving move. It would have been awesome, she replied and confirmed the infrastructure is still in place to bring it to life. Introducing the giant creature. This galaxy’s edge is possible. The land is built to accommodate the
Right vehicle beasts. The station location is set and the technology is understood a relatively cheap way to plus the existing land as a tester then agreed to Jim in a reply good point. Could always be introduced in the future. If it is, I will be first in line. Of course. Early sketches appeared
In the Art of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, a coffee table book by Nerdist managing editor Amy Ratcliffe, who spoke to several people involved in the creation of the land. Imagineer Scott Trowbridge said Eli was a creature that we designed and did a fair amount of work to figure
Out how we would bring her to life. Ian McCaig, did some designs for her. We just fell in love with those designs. We did some models and figured out how we could bring her to life technically. And then ultimately, what we realized is, with the kind of
Population we expect in the land, we won’t really be able to have her feel authentic. Eventually, though, a plush of Ellie was released last year. Here. Here she is. She’s very cute. There’s a book too that goes along with this. It’s a really cute thing. It’s a shame it didn’t happen.
We miss out so many of these. You know, I don’t think the company sees the value in these small scale attractions that aren’t necessarily flat rides, right? Like, we’re getting a lot of those. They build a lot of these alien, swirling saucer type systems. We’re getting that boat ride thing for tangled.
Tangled go round, whatever you want to call it at Walt Disney Studios Paris, where we don’t get a lot of diversion, stuff like that. And look, I understand they. Thought the crowding would be an issue. Let’s face it now. Galaxy’s edge has been open for a couple of years now on both coasts.
It’s not really that overcrowded. There’s path space. So long as you know the Mandalorian isn’t standing in the path, there’s plenty of path space. This this could be done. Will they? I don’t know, and personally, I think at this point I would rather they spend whatever that money is to
Plus the land in other ways, whether that’s add more missions to mining Falcon, Smuggler’s Run or add a sit down restaurant or add another larger scale attraction, just push some of that money into something bigger. You know, Galaxy’s Edge, in my estimation, is still missing something.
To give it more life like rise is a fantastic attraction. The rest, you know, other than the lightsaber experience, I’m still pretty lukewarm on. Get it lukewarm? It’s like the inside of a tauntaun. But anyway, as much as I’d love this look, I love original characters. And I love rides like that.
At this point, I don’t know that opening, just that would make a big splash. So something with with, you know, a bigger impact should be done with the land at this point, I think. Or turn it back to the original trilogy. I what did I say that I don’t know.
First found by Dan Levy, 2000 on the WDW Magic Forums, Disney has filed a permit for demolition at the NBA Experience in Disney Springs, which never reopened following the Covid 19 pandemic closures at Walt Disney World Resort. The permit was filed on February 15th and lists general construction
And demo as as the general description of improvement, with the project assigned to a Dana Corporation, which has handled large projects for Walt Disney World in the past, including the World Celebration Gardens and Epcot. According to Dan Elbe 2000, there is no indication in the permit that the entire building will be
Demolished, as it was in 2017 that permit listed demo of structure and additional work as the general description. Of course, that’s when they knocked down Disney. Quest City Works eatery in poor House, also shares the building with the former attraction and has not announced any form of closures.
And we don’t expect them to. They do pretty well. However, possible demolition work could include removing the large basketball mural that wraps around the building or interior spaces that were heavily customized for the previous experience. Per WDW magic, Disney has been actively searching for new tenants to take over the space, but the
Company is yet to announce a replacement. But in 2022, Meta Quest moved temporarily into the space to offer the limited time demo of ILM and, Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. It’s also reportedly been used as office space for the opening of Summer House on the Lake, but they are now open.
The NBA experience open to guests on August 12th, 2019, replacing Disney Quest and offering basketball fans a chance to immerse themselves in their favorite sport. It never reached a high level of popularity in that short amount of time. It was open again, closed in March of 2020, and then they just
Decided to call the whole thing off and never reopen the space. And that’s the story. One of the it’s going to go down with, like with what, like rocket rods and things like that is like the biggest blunders probably, in the company’s history. My favorite thing was several years ago, the first
And it may have not been the first, but one of the replacements for Disney Quest, was supposed to be the void. You may remember, the void ended up taking a very small space by Once Upon a Toy, where they did a number of experiences, in particular, Star Wars one was,
Still the coolest VR thing I’ve seen in in my time. I think unmatched and unrivaled in that space. They were during the time they existed. But there was talk about them taking over Disney Quest, and each floor would be a different VR experience. And I thought that was, you know,
Such a missed opportunity. Obviously the void went out of business, which is sad. Because again, I think they did it better than anyone. But I think that probably would have been a more popular replacement. Maybe, maybe that would have saved the company. Who knows? But, it’s nice to see this.
I hope this means something’s coming, because that is a big, empty building to look at. You’ve heard us talking about renting DVC points through our friends at DVC rental store accom. Well, if you’ve rented points and gotten a taste of the DVC lifestyle of a Walt Disney World vacation, you
Might be thinking it’s time to jump in and join the club. But did you know you don’t have to pay the price? Disney charges for a membership. You can save thousands of dollars when you buy resale contracts. You can contact our friends at DVC Resale Market to find out how much
You can save. Go to DVC Resale market.com/ww. And for more information, we actually bought, I bought a resale contract, a couple years ago. With the Polynesian saved, I think, over 50% of what people paid for it originally. And we got to stay in a bungalow. And now, you know,
Regularly use it, so it’s a great deal. I think it’s the best way. Yeah. You don’t get lounge access, but, I mean, do you really need free gummy bears? I think we’ll be okay. So are in over California, which return to Epcot for a limited time during the 100 Years of Wonder celebration.
Will. Go away this month and turn around the world will return. According to the Walt Disney World website, February 27th will be the last day to ride Soarin Over California. Soaring on the soaring Around the World will then be back on February 28th. The original version of the attraction opened with Disney
California Adventure on February 8th, 2001, and then came to Epcot in 2005, and both parks replaced it in 2016 with Soaring Around the World, which debuted a day previously at Shanghai Disney Resort. The bases of the Lamp Post in the World Celebration Gardens at Epcot have proven to be a trip hazard.
There are now green construction boxes around the base of each lamp post, while crews work at night to solve the problem. The lamp posts are slightly slanted black poles with two black rings near the top, and the rings light up in different colors at night. The green construction boxes are a
Couple of feet tall and surround the bases of the lamp posts, and beneath them we could see signs of some pavement work. Previously, these lampposts had small mounds at their base that were the same color as the brown pavement. You can see that in the photos now. World Celebration Gardens finally
Opened after years of construction on Walt Disney’s birthday, December 5th of last year. The gardens are located in the center of what was Future World behind Spaceship Earth, and includes Dreamer’s Point with the statue of Walt the Dreamer. Judging by the marks on the pavement, the mounds have been
Completely removed so guests can no longer trip over them, and Disney is likely doing something new with the bases so it will be safer for guests. You know, there’s been a lot of criticisms of the world celebration gardens, and I’m one of the people responsible, I’m sure.
I think there’s a lot of this where they order fixtures and all these things, and no one looks at them and thinks about. How is this going to work when a guest goes through here, right. There’s some things unavoidable. There’s some things that you you have the best of intentions, and
Then you let people in, and you couldn’t have imagined what people were going to do to stuff or how, you know, finishes were going to hold out and things like that. This is not one of those cases. I think just looking at them, it was pretty obvious to the
Stuff that was not the best choice. And it’s I’m glad to see them very quickly fixing the problem. It’s it’s a good sign. The Figment Topiary has a new location for this year’s Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, and that’s at the center of world celebration where our King belongs.
When we arrived at Epcot on Tuesday morning, we saw crew members putting the finishing touches on the large pink flower topiaries that encircle figment. The display is located in the Epcot Logo Planter in the center of World Celebration Gardens, which opened again in December. The Figment Topiary has previously
Been located outside of the Imagination Pavilion. The Figment topiary is the same design as previous years. There are six giant pink flowers around him, and he faces away from Spaceship Earth for an ideal photo opportunity, and at night this area is illuminated with lights linked up to the spaceship. Earth light shows
We’ll have to see how figment will be lit as well. The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival begins next Wednesday, February 28th. The runs through May 27th. Other Topiaries already in place include the new goofy one, lady and the tramp, a Norway troll, pandas, and more. You can see them all at
Our com. We don’t have time to talk about them all now, but there also be new topiaries which have not yet been installed for wish, Coco and Guardians of the Galaxy. Speaking of the Flower and Garden Festival, Disney has announced the outdoor kitchens that will be at
This year’s event as well as their full menus. There will be over 60 new menu items, so please pray for me next Wednesday at the nearly 20 outdoor kitchens, including Cook Bonito at Florida Fresh and Peach Peach Galette at the Epcot Farmer’s Feast. Returning favorites one called the Frozen Dessert, Violet Lemonade
At Pineapple Promenade, and the Chicken and Waffles at the Honey Bistro, hosted by National Honey Board for the garden Grace Food Stroll guests can collect stamps in their festival passport when they purchase one of eight participating items, and after collecting five stamps, guests get a free, exclusive treat from Pineapple Promenade Festival
Themed Disney gift cards featuring Orange Bird and Spike the Bee sing Along at home will be available. These mini gift cards come on wristbands for convenient scanning, so stay tuned for our coverage. Flower and garden next week 60 I think with with, some beers and wines, it’s actually 70 new
Items, I think, it’s it’s back to what it used to be covering the festivals. This is going to sound like such a first world problem. Covering a festival first day is very taxing. And, we’ve been lucky lately. The number of new items has been lower for several festivals in
A row. This is getting back towards where it used to be when it was more of a Herculean task. So Wednesday’s going to be interesting. The United Kingdom Pavilion restrooms at Epcot have reopened after refurbishment that began in June of last year. The walls came down in the restrooms
For both women and men. Or ladies and gentlemen, as they say on the signs are finally once again open. The entrance before the refurbishment had a small sign hanging in each of the two archways. As we noted back in January when the walls first came down, the restrooms
Now have signs above the arches with the restroom sign in the center, and above that is a bronze Waterloo plaque with two lions and a shield. Waterloo was used as a play on words as well. It is an actual location in London. Loo is also a term used
Instead of restroom in the UK. During our visit, we were able to take a look at the changes inside at least the women’s restroom, which is completely remodeled as we anticipated. These original 1982 bathrooms finally got a full remodel. They look quite different. They look completely refreshed, they look modernized, and they’re
Actually pretty thematic too. There’s now mint brown, white, black and off white color, color scheme throughout the whole thing, instilling an English look. They’re very detailed. This is, a glow up for sure. Can’t say anything bad about this. You know, I will miss. And it’s a weird thing being a Disney Parks fan.
You know, we get nostalgic for the little pieces of the park that have stayed the same our whole lives. I realize how psychotic it is to fall in love with 1980s bathroom esthetics, but, I’m going to miss. That was a little piece of Epcot center that that stuck with us.
Not an important piece, but a piece nonetheless. But these look very, very nice. It’s a big, big improvement. Of course, now the World Showplace restrooms are closed once again because of this. Bring Disney Quest Back!
If they pull this off I hope one day they can use it for different experiences. Like riding on the backs of Mammoths in a land partially seen themed to Brother Bear and Dire Horses in Pandora: World of Avatar.
Glad to see the news updates tonight! Gertie and Elee look cute together! Sorry to hear they are bringing back Soarin around the World. I liked California better.
Adana Corp did the world celebration gardens at Epcot Huh???? This would be s sight to be seen…..
Must be nice having all this money to destroy perfectly good buildings…… There is no imagination in the WDW company to repurpose that building????? Big empty building……. The Disney way these days…
I will never get over the closing of DisneyQuest for the shitty NBA experience (which then failed anyway).
the Tiana 'logs' are refurbished, so 50% less chance of them sinking mid attraction now? 🙂
Did they not do show on Monday 2/19
I think wwe should take that place where NBA was at
I would turn the NBA into some kind of highly themed kids club so parents could pay to drop their kids off for a few hours and enjoy Disney springs alone.
Turning GE into the OT would be the best thing they could do!
Great!!! The one thing my 6 year old daughter and I were really looking forward to riding was Soarin Over California in our upcoming April trip, I've been telling her how great it is. Now I'll have to hype up CGI Elephants and dirt smells. Why can't Disney keep California on 2 theaters and put the World on the 3rd and see which one has the line of people waiting for it
Tom, re maintaining the bathrooms as a piece of the 1980s…are you taking the piece? Haha
Tom, I am a Quality Manager for a manufacturing company. The red tags on the log ride vehicles were more than likely rejection tags because they did not pass inspection, and are waiting to be returned to the manufacturer for rework. The log ride vehicles that did pass inspection are probably in the vehicle staging location for the ride.
I don't think the creature would work very well in GE. Low capacity and probably very exclusive experience. Just another thing at Disney that most people can not access because money or time… most will be on phones trying to figure out how to hack getting in empty, etc.. "normal" people will hate it because they do not want to spend their whole day trying to ride one expensive and exclusive attraction. Disney is becoming a very exclusive place and does not plus up for all.
Why would they destroy history RIP Splash Mountain
Kinetic energy – the Star Wars area is missing a flat/outdoor ride.
For anyone interested in the history of the Void and its founder, or if you want to hear the most insane story of possibly the most ill-conceived theme park in history, I highly recommend Jenny Nicholson’s video on Evermore. It’s long but worth watching because I genuinely cannot believe Evermore is a real place that’s still operating
SPIKE THE BEE
Galaxys Edge is missing a clone of Radiator Springs Racers, themed to Pod Racing.
Tom-my husband and I met you a few years ago while standing in line for a kitchen in Epcot on the first day of Food and Wine. It certainly seemed like a Herculean task, as your staff was busy dividing and conquering.
My husband does not watch YouTube so he did not know you, but I was trying to stay cool. You were very kind and asked us how our vacation was and I know we droned on about having 3 teenagers and the “fun” they often bring!
Enjoy this next festival-we will be there this year on the last week of F&G. I’m very excited about all of the new dishes this time-60??!!
I have a feeling Tiana’s Bayou Adventure isn’t going to go the way they expect it’s going to go. I have a feeling it’s going to be like Tiki Room Under New Management or Journey into Your Imagination. It looks like Rainforest Cafe crossed with the Opening of Disney’s California Adventure. Once it’s open I have a feeling that it could be flooded with complaints to guests relations. It could happen but it depends on the ride and how successful the story is on the ride, which means I doubt it can be the same amount of a people eater as Splash Mountain.
Tokyo monorail prices go up JUST BEFORE opening of Fantasy Springs. 🤔🤷🏼♂️🤔🤷🏼♂️
Mezzatesta, Italian for: half-head. Just saying…
Fix Smugglers Run. By fix, I mean have the gunner positions be like IN THE MOVIES. If I'm a gunner, I'm not watching the main screen. I'm watching my screen to shoot things. All positions need to be fun.
Both Soarning videos need picture quality updates. California was showing its age. World needs to be less bendy. California should stay in CA with World popping in for a festival. World needs to remain in FL with a festival visit or two.
The logs look so boring and terrible no statue in the front. The log looks like it's reused with the scratches and marks
Luke Warm! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was good!
Twitter was sold over a year ago, i think we can drop the “formally Twitter”.
Excellent as usual. Thank you.
Soarin' Over California closed just as I was about to take my 100th flight! Now I have to settle for soaring over my laundry pile instead. ✈️🧺
How about playing the spectacular John Williams Star Wars soundtrack in Galaxys edge?
For the umpteeth time why must GE be locked into any point in the saga timeline? All you need is a sign at each entrance telling guest what storyline to expect and all the fun stuff…… characters, food, trinkets and entertainment for that point in time. Since the Falcon is in multiple stories the ride could be programmed to correspond with the period. Changing it every ……… will give people a reason to come back and buy more stuff
100% agree Batuu needs some help. As great a ride as Rise of the Resistance is, it would be even better if they can get it back up to 100% operational again. When was the last time the turbo lasers actually moved back and forth? Last time I rode Kylo didn’t even do his turn in the bridge.
And Droid Depot, my favorite part of Batuu, has been so depleted of merchandise, especially droid accessories (e.g., droid panel sets, serving trays, certain tow cables), I can’t even recommend doing it to people right now. Cast members have said they have been out of stock for months. I’m hoping that means new merchandise is coming soon, and there just isn’t supply chain issues.
THANK YOU for the beautiful captions provided in this video! I’m deaf and rely on CC, and my spouse and I love to watch the Disney news during dinner. The clarity and limited errors are a huge step up from the standard auto captions. I’m so excited about the accessibility!!
I would have snuck Brer Rabbit by I my pocket haha
Food and Wine…..tough job, but someone has to do it right!!!
Hey Disney. Please give us the original trilogy. Is that so much to ask? I want to hang out with Ewoks, have drinks & entertainment in Jaba’s palace. Maybe even meet Luke, Hans, Leia….Lando in Cloud City! Something…anything… I’ll take one random Jawa at this point. OG trilogy will make the entire fandom flock to HS. Just saying.
I never got why Galaxy's Edge needs to be tethered to any particular timeline at all. Of course, in terms of the movies everyone has their favourites and least favourites and that's fine. But i don't know why the land has to bend over backwards to be so neurotically fastidious to obsessive fanboys when I'd estimate that ninety per cent or more of casual guests simply don't care about what timeline we're in or what movies we're between or whether this character fits with that character or whatever.
Remember when the imagineers were showing George Lucas the revised scenes for Star Tours set on the battle of Hoth, and Lucas asked the imagineers if they could add in the little pit droid characters from The Phantom Menace. And someone replied 'we can't actually do that, George, because the pit droids belong to the prequel trilogy which is a different era of the timeline'. Lucas reportedly just shrugged and said 'Look, nobody cares'.
If we can have Winnie the Pooh doing a meet and greet in the Darling's bedroom from Peter Pan, then we can have Darth Vader coming out of Kylo Ren's shuttle or Rey meeting Boba Fett or whatever. If that's a big deal to you, then sorry but too bad.

This pisses me off no end. Why the hell do they destroy parts of history instead of auctioning them for a kids charity? What purpose does it possibly serve to have them destroyed when they could do so much good with the money. It’s mind-numbingly insane!
I love the idea of a Star Wars creature ride, since it would add an alien species and movement to the land. The problem is that the ride capacity would likely be between 350 and 500 guests per hour (assuming all went well). That would mean, unless people weren't interested in riding a Bantha, that they'd likely have a four hour line for a seven minute ride that just went from one end of Galaxy's Edge to the other. I suspect they would have the same problems they had with that Discovery River Cruise at Animal Kingdom, or the Swan Boats at the Magic Kingdom: guest frustration. If they could figure out a way to increase the capacity to 1,200 guests an hour, or so, then I think it would be a great addition. Otherwise, I think it would, as cool as it looks, be likely to frustrate too many parents with children.
I think that Disney should have Pepsi instead.
I agree that it's gonna take a lot more than just an animatronic animal ride to revive Galaxy's Edge. The animal ride would inject much-needed kineticicism into the land, but we also need the sit-down dinner show to expand the food offerings, the original trilogy walk-around characters to appeal to a broader audience, a stunt show to attract people to the land, and more missions on the Millennium Falcon to encourage return visits.
