A few months ago, Jan and I cycled the Petit Train du Nord located a few miles Northwest of Montreal Canada. We cycled four days from Mt Laurier to St Jerome. It’s an easy flat ride slightly downhill. Suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities as long as you’re comfortable riding about 30-40 miles per day. The trail is mostly packed gravel and asphalt. It’s recommended to ride a bike equipped with at least 35-40mm tire width due to some loose gravel.
There is a shuttle bus to transport you, your luggage and bicycle to the start of the trail. There are many hotels to choose from along the way. Check out their website to plan your trip.

What a great ride. 👍🏻
Love your videos, and so look forward to them. My son, daughter in-law and her dad and I are riding the GAP trail from Pittsburgh to Cumberland in July. Have you ever ridden that trail?
Looks like you had a wonderful time. Thanks for adding another trail to my bucket list!
wow it looks like you had great trip thanks for sharing it.
Ohhhh Steve wonderful wonderful trip, a great trail in four days, I can see that despite the rain these days you have enjoyed your beautiful bicycle trip; In addition, you have stayed in very beautiful places, the landscapes are stunnig there in Canada. have a great weekend you and Jan, greetings from Argentina
What a nice trip. Those trails look so good. Thanks for the video. Plattsburg is a old Air Force town. The Butcher Block is a nice restaurant if your ever in the area again. Take care, Al
Nice .. I tried to go biking today and got discouraged with the wind..i say im outdoorsy until the wind happens. 😢
What bike did you take ?
Thanks for the video. I just requested the catalog. Looks like a great ride this spring!
I really enjoyed your video series about the Empire State Trail, I did the northern half last year and 'm planning on riding down from Montreal to NYC sometime this year! The p'tit train du nord is a real gem, we're incredibly lucky to have it, it looks like you had a wonderful time 🙂
Hi Steve! It's good to see that your rain gear kept you and Jan warm and dry. I was wondering how it would perform. I've used those cheap pocket rain ponchos before which weren't much better than riding without. I've been caught out in the rain before, while on bike ride on trails, and I've ended up soaked to the gills. I'll have to give the type that you used in the video a try. Take care, David.
It just a pleasure to watch you and seeing your wife on the trip
Congratulations. Good Video
Excellent trip and very enjoyable to watch. Thank you!
Very nice video and with a beautiful riding partner. Thanks Steve
Awsome video, very much enjoyed it.great adventure……….
Wow, so much fun! This reminds me of the bike train at the Lehigh Gorge in Jim Thorp, PA on the weekends in the summer/fall. I love watching your videos.
Hi! I'm Steve. I'm retired. I'm 70 and I bike with my wife! We thoroughly enjoy your videos. You doing a great job with your bicycle reviews. Keep logging those miles!
Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your trip! We also cycled the trail at the end of June 2023, just after the Ironman was canceled due to smoke from the wildfires! Montreal had the worlds worst air quality the day we stayed at the Comfort Inn in St Jerome! Fortunately not bad once we started. Had some showers but no bugs. The one time we had steady rain was when we rode the 11 mile detour on the highway! Wide shoulder and respectful drivers. Cecile and her husband at Auberge Chez Ignace in Nominique were wonderful hosts and the food outstanding! Fun to meet fellow travelers! A great trip!
Have you done the Veloroute Bleuets in the Saguenay area? It’s a loop trail around Lac Saint Jean. We’re planning on going this year.
Your video was a good way to start my Saturday. Thanks!
We were also there June 2023. We stayed at the campground in Conception and did day trips to ride the trail. In September 2022 we rode the entire trail up and back in 5 days, 3 days up from St Jerome to Mt Laurier then two long days back to St Jerome. We are also senior riders and travel from Prince Edward Island to ride our favorite trail, Petit Train du Nord!
Great video, it really looks like a great trail.
Great video. I cycled the trail last summer as well, as part of a longer trip (then again, I'm only 64). I didn't have a nice buss around the detour – not only was there highway riding, there were some pretty stubborn hills.
Funny to see my chalet as you rode past KM 129! Glad you enjoyed you visit.
I am from Montreal and have ridden this route several times, but only the Tremblant St Jerome section. They are paving the gravel sections to reduce erosion and make it easier to ride with an ordinary bike. It is a great route with places to stop for food and drink and washrooms right on the trail (old train stations). There is a modest slope of about 2% going in the south-north direction. On a hot day trees provide a canopy of shade in amny sections. A great place to stop for repairs or a cofee is Espresso Sports in Mont Rolland (16:27). Everyone in these businesses speaks English even though French is the main language. You can actually ride all the way back to Montreal from st Jérôme (65 km) or take a commuter train (55 mins).
What bike are you riding?
Nice video welcome to Canada 🇨🇦
You are really living the life, Steve.
Brilliant video Steve, thanks for sharing it with us. I felt like I was there with you on the ride
Steve, we live about two hours south of St. Jerome in NY. Thanks for posting the video and I think we check out this trail sometime here in 2024. You mentioned bugs on your ride – what month did you ride the trail?
