What Do People Love and Hate About Malaysia?

But as I said the pollution is like actually I changed my answer I hate the it’s kind of weird but it’s actually like it’s it’s actually really surprising hey what’s up Adam Savage here with another round of Street interviews today I’m back in Malaysia so

I thought I would ask what is it that people love and hate about Malaysia and if you like these Street interviews be sure you’re subscribe comment uh like this Etc you know the drill all right let’s find out what people like and dislike what is your name batist batist

And where are you from France France so you’ve been in Malaysia for how long uh 1 month approximately one month okay where in Malaysia have you been uh just in quor for now just in just in K so this is your first time in Asia completely oh wow so I’m asking people

You’ve been here a month now so that’s a good amount of time what is it that you love most about Malaysia everybody is really welcoming like uh every Malaysian is really really kind everybody talk English uh uh which is not the case in a lot of Asian countries everything is so

Cheap to be honest you can like for $1 you can take the the taxi for $1 and go from all one location to the other so that’s perfect um food is great there is a lot of I mean I’m from Normandy and there is like cheese from Normandy in in

K so it’s kind of weird but it’s actually like it’s it’s actually really surprising and what about the other end of the Spectrum has there been something really annoying or something that you just can’t stand that bothers you about Malaysia h no no and there is something

That I really love uh within like 20 minutes you can be in the jungle so we are like in the a big city with big buildings and uh a lot of traffic but just 20 minutes uh by car and you’re in the middle of nowhere uh in the jungle

Uh you can climb some some some rocks you can do whatever you want you can sea snakes monkeys uh spiders and yeah so now there for now after a month there’s nothing that I don’t like about KL for now uh yeah maybe one thing like as as a

French I most of the time like you do everything just by walking here you cannot do anything without a car so it will be like the the main uh the main problem but that’s not a big deal what’s your name Lena and Ahmed and where are

You guys from I’m from Sudan Sudan yeah I’m from itria how long have you guys been in Malaysia I would say like 2 years two years wow yeah I think I’m here year and a half almost now and you’re students uh yes okay so I’m asking people what is it they like the

Most about Malaysia what just you know some general things that you guys really like about Malaysia for me it’s the diversity like Malaysia is very diverse I just like enjoy the simplest thing like seeing like different cultures on the street you could see it like in the buildings like the food the people

Themselves like I like that okay I like is a very strong word but like I come from a very small country so I like how big Malaysia is that to the point where for example in KL when I’m like bored out of a one spot or something you know that there exist a

Million other places that you can just visit it’ll be like a whole new experience CU coming to Malaysia first time was really nice for me so like going to um malaka for the first time is like reliving that experience and you can do that like 20 times in Malaysia

Get there it’s like millions of places to go to so I just like the size basically and the other hand is there things that you don’t like or that bother you or you’re not happy with like yeah actually we relate to the places thing but like I don’t like how they

Everything closes at like 10 p.m. like I came from Saud Arabia you still in Saud Arabia and like it would be 3:00 a.m. and we’ be able to like go out have coffee like everything is nice but here like we like going out at night but like

There’s nothing to do like cuz they close everything be quiet unless you go to bars or something something but yeah in like yeah back in like cuz I was Raising Middle East as well so like we had it up until like 3:00 a.m. 5: a.m. like the same amount of traffic same

Shops are open in the morning are open at night so you don’t have to change your flavor to like bars and clubs or you can just keep going to like a family park at like 3:00 a.m. it’ll be normal but for me more than that I just don’t

Like the food I’ll be honest really I am a very picky person and I really tried liking Malaysian food it’s very cheap which I love but not really my taste I’ll be honest can you find much arrian food here it’s not that I’ve eaten much

Arrian food in my life I was brought up in the Middle East so I’ve eaten more like General Arab food uh More Than A Taste is the fact that the portions are so small maybe it’s that as Arabs we eat a lot it could be on us but like

Comparatively I like I’m never full with one meal to be sure it tastes different as well they like add the Malaysian flavor to it oh actually I changed my answer I hate the chili sauce that’s the one thing I hate I hate chili sauce they put on everything because it’s like a

Cheat it’s like you don’t even know what the thing tastes like it’s like it’s lacking taste just add chili sauce and it tastes like chili sauce and nothing else I hate chili sauce I’m changing my answer to that hello what’s your name hi my name is Kevin Kevin you’re from where

Germany Germany and what brought you to Malaysia are you visiting or you live here I’m visiting I’m coming from Thailand I was two months in Thailand and now I said said said to myself let’s go to Malaysia to see what’s going on here so you’ve been in how long uh 5

Days 5 days and so you’re kind of just getting to know it so in those 5 days though what has been what you’ve liked most what do you love most about Malaysia at this point to be honest I I haven’t been quite out of my condo a lot

Just been working but as I said the pollution is like less compared to Bangkok and um yeah and and also big thing is people speak way better English here than in Thailand Thailand nobody body speaks speaks any word of English and here everybody speaks English so it’s pretty

Pretty nice to communicate with very true has there been anything that you really disliked so far since you’ve been here anything really annoying not like really really annoying but like the Wayne is like kind of weird because where I come from it’s not like because

You see he rains for like 30 minutes and then it stops and it’s every day and back in Germany it was raining for like two weeks straight and so it’s kind of off but yeah it’s better than than uh two ex straight what is your name Ahmed

Ahmed and where are you from Pakistan pan how long have you been here in Malaysia uh eight month eight months yes okay so um what what brought you to why did you come to Malaysia and jobs jobs more jobs than Pakistan yes did you visit Malaysia first or did you just

Come here directly first you visit yeah okay and what what do you think of Malaysia in general how is it Malaysia nice city nice city people nice food very good food Chito very good food and other shops very good okay nice what so if you had to pick one thing one thing

Is your your favorite thing about Malaysia what would it be like what is the best best thing about Malaysia uh weather the weather same weather you like the warm weather and weather same weather same weather same weather yeah all year round same weather okay and uh what about is there anything about

Malaysia that you don’t like that that really bothers you like like I don’t like this it’s okay you can be honest no no nothing no understand come on it has to be something no no hello what is your name my name iska Tika and you are from

Malaysia where are you from in Malaysia um I’m just k kalal okay and I’m asking people what is it they love most about Malaysia so what is the like if you had to say your absolute favorite thing what do you love about Malaysia the most um food I love about

Food oh the food yeah what what’s your favorite Malaysian food about food for because we got a lot of culture here and um for Malaysia is nil do you have a try n yes I have it’s very good also we have like um gai a am masak goua you should try it

Because maybe the color is quite interesting because it’s yellow chicken and then it’s quite yellow but it’s good what’s your name I’m Rohan and where you where you from I’m from London and what’s your name my name is Stefan and where are you from I’m from Germany I’m

MRA I’m from Malaysia so I’m asking uh what you love most about Malaysia so what is it that you like most or have enjoyed most about being in Malaysia I have family here so for me it has has to be my family my grandparents live out

Here and my my my my dad’s out here so spending time with them that’s probably the best what about you you said you arrived when uh I arrived um like a week ago okay today is my seventh day I’m a total freshman and what have you liked most about Malaysia I’m still figuring

It out it’s it’s it’s not not me no because I’m still new here but what I what I people are very welcoming like super welcoming and I like the overall blending of different cultures can I change my answer yeah my my favorite thing about Malaysia is is is my family and

Stefan okay now you look now you look like a now you look like the bad guy and you’re you’re from K yeah from K okay so what what do you love most about Malaysia I mean the culture the cities um everything here is like more welcoming people well yeah here’s the

Second question then what do you what do you either hate or just really dislike about Malaysia so far it feels like you need a car here it would be better to have a car yeah like like walking within the the I today I was in P paa like in

One of those original and to get out and to get in it it feels like you need a car and today I I went to this one rental shop and and I rent I I made a reservation for for a scooter so the next two or three weeks I will have a

Scooter just to getting through the different areas just to come here I remember the first time I come here to this Bara to this place it was really hard to get out of the metro station by walk to to here because there was a really big construction site and you

Have to get around the construction site running through and uh it it feels like it it you you’re supposed to have a car here do you drive in Malaysia no so how do you get around I use train or motorcycles you think the the the Malaysia or k is very car

Centric yeah need a car even if you live quite Central like near KCC just to get into the to the center you still need to buildings are so tall and the the area where you can walk sometimes like like this narrow but then I like that I like

The city Vibes I I like cities yeah yeah when you have a nice car that weird because the first three days I lived in KLCC like in the middle having one of those rooftop um accommodations and down there you go down the street everyone was walking like this because the the

Streets for for for normal pedestrians were like very narrow so when when someone’s cross you have to make this in London in London it’s the opposite yeah in Germany in London it’s the roads are too narrow cuz they they all the buildings were in place so they didn’t think about yeah

To have a a bicycle ride today I I I was in a bicycle shop with like Italian steel frame like very luxurious things and I ask them how where where where can do the people who buys a bicycle from made handmade in Italy do they ride them

Here I no they it’s a collectible I’ve seen like one person on the street riding a bike in my entire time here in Malaysia people just don’t bike here yeah they just don’t yeah and I missed that all right that was fascinating what did you think and tell me what you like

And don’t like about Malaysia and if you have any other questions for future interviews be sure and let me know in the comments below I hope to see you in future videos bye

I asked locals and visitors to Malaysia what they think of the country and got some surprising answers. All interviews done in Kuala Lumpur. Subscribe for more street interviews in Asia and wherever else I travel. Thank you to all the participants!

  1. There are some 24hrs shops/convenience stores and restaurants open nearly 24hrs are 'Mamak'. In the Middle Eastern countries, most people going out at night since is too hot in day time. However, compared to the West it even worser as they closed very much early and night is silence mostly during winter time.

  2. I think the German guy made a really good point that the traffic in KL is really pain in the ass. Having public transport here it seems doesn’t make any sense when you still need another mode of transport to get to your final destination. Btw : are those guys flirting with each other 😂

  3. Thanks Eritrean guy for being honest about not liking sambal. 😂 That's a slap in the face for the Malaysians who keep insisting that Malaysian food is the best food in the world. Different people have different palates.
