After watching several Moldova travel vlogs, and then experiencing it for myself, it left me rather annoyed. It was NOTHING like the way it was represented. Not only that, but people were praising these vloggers for showing a “real” side of a place, instead of a polished, glamorous view of the place. Now, I didn’t find Chisinau glamorous, and I certainly didn’t find much glitz and glamour in Tiraspol, or Bender, or Saroca, but I also didn’t find any of the squalor that is shown in the vlogs that were filmed just before I arrived there last November. Is this cognitive dissonance, confirmation bias, or did they just lie, potentially harming the already fragile tourist infrastructure for a few extra views of poverty porn?
