The town of Viareggio is home to one of the most impressive street festivals in Italy, the famous Viareggio Carnival on the Versilia Coast in Tuscany. Italy’s Viareggio Carnival is held annually since the first parade in 1873, with charming parades of huge and very colorful allegorical floats along the seaside Promenade of Viareggio (Viali a Mare). The Carnival in the Tuscan town on Italy’s northern Mediterranean coast is now one of Italy’s most popular carnivals, renowned for its giant floats of more than 20 meters high and 12 meters wide presenting incredible technical and artistic creations deeply rooted in the traditions of the local people. The major topical issues are presented with humor at the Viareggio Carnival through the oversized papier-mâché characters and the beautiful costumes worn by the thousands of dressed-up figures who dance on the floats. If on the one hand, such advances have enabled the great adventurer to explore infinite worlds, on the other hand, Ulysses has now been lulled to sleep, and has forgotten his own human essence. In the meanwhile, ignorance, wars and the depletion of resources make the rich even richer: members of good-old ” 1% super-wealthy” club are ready to set sail for artificial paradises, leaving the rest of humanity without a future. What if, one day, machines developed some form of alternative intelligence? Would they then be the ones to wake us up and to remind us what makes us human beings?
