How busy is Deia, Mallorca in Winter?

So in this video we’re going to take a look at the beautiful Hilltop town of DEA in Winter now I’m filming this at the back end of February normally when I come over to DEA Village during the winter months it’s extremely quiet but we’re going to see something just a little bit different Today so I’m starting my tour today on the far end of De of village on the entrance as you’re coming along from valdor and the first thing we can see is this wonderful wooden pathway which lies behind me here it runs into the Village Center and it’s a great place to walk

Along as well it keeps you off the road but allows you to see the amazing views of this really historical Old Town which lies in front of me now the first thing I noticed when I entered DEA today was just how busy it is and how almost

Impossible it’s been to park here in the village today normally in February we just do not have the visitors here and it’s very very quiet there’s hardly anything open at all but today is a completely different story so I’ve just met hendrik and Evelyn who are here on

Holiday from Germany guys hello tell me why are you visiting de in February um yeah we are cyclists and we’re doing a training camp here and um today’s our rest day so we decided to take a rental car and just um yeah go for a little road trip and what do you

Think of day yeah it’s wonderful um last year we were here and um we um um we are just going through and we didn’t have time to stop here but it was really beautiful last year was in vosa more time and uh this year we are in DEA

And it’s wonderful I think and tell me what about the cycling here in mayor is it good do you recommend the cycling here to others yeah oh definitely it’s so lovely and um it’s not only that the roads are beautiful and the um the other part of the traffic is really really

Nice to cyclist is like the infrastructure is great like you can always buy uh gels and stuff to refuel if you have any problems and it’s really good yeah that’s fantastic to know guys thanks very much for talking to me and enjoy the rest of your time here in myor

Thank you thank you so much bye so we’ve been extremely lucky with the weather today I left Palmer this morning it was extremely cloudy and very very cold but I’ve come up to this lovely mild air up here in DEA normally the weather forecast is the other way around because day is flanked

By the tantana mountains which you can just see to my right hand side it’s absolutely beautiful stunning location but during the winter months you just don’t get the Sun up here and it does feel very very cold but today it is completely different so during the winter months we

Normally see most of the restaurants are closed up here in De but we can see at the restaurante day just in front of me that is open but one of the reasons for the business of DEA has just driven past me and if you have seen my video which I

Filmed up in Alcudia just the other day you’ll know that we have many Spanish pensioners from the mainlands over here in mayca on holiday taking advantage of a cheap winter Break so we’re just coming up around the corner into DEA Village you can see some of the citrus trees here I’ve got an orange tree in front of me it’s just Laden with oranges but already we can see how absolutely gorgeous this little village does look during the winter Months now as we come into the village we see the whole High Street here is lined with restaurants there’s not so much open today obviously the season hasn’t quite started but we’re going to see a few businesses have actually opened up early this year to take advantage of the amount of visitors that

We have in the town this February I can see we have a boutique cloth shop which is open already so during the summer months the road running through day does get very very busy it gets clogged with traffic and buses coming through and normally during the winter you just don’t get

That it’s very very quiet it’s very easy to get around but not the it’s not the case today you can see the competition for parking spaces along here and look to my left hand side as well I see that there’s a uh another Boutique open and another restaurant

Too and over the winter here look we can see the 203 bus running and because we don’t have very many visitors they’re just running a very small bus but during the summer months they run the really really big buses through the village here and it does get very busy of course

Sometimes these roads do get blocked by the buses coming through too got the location of the Wednesday Market here which I have over the summer if you want to check out that video of what has to be the smallest Market in myca I’ll drop a link to that in the

Description text below but Wednesday is the day to come and experience that if you’re visiting the island or you’re visiting the town but all through day here look you can see the lovely orange trees and lemon trees just lining the roadside it is so idyllic and if it

Wasn’t for all the traffic then you really would get that tranquil traditional mayen Oldtown feeling so I’m just coming to the center of the village here and you can see the main car park amazingly there is a parking space free and I didn’t think I would see that but you can see otherwise

The the car park is pretty chalk a block today in February and for that reason my advice is to get the bus which we’ve just seen going through the village we can see the bus heading down towards soyer you can see a queue of people just waiting for that bus to come

Along but it’s preferable over and above bringing a higher car to this Village that really doesn’t have very much parking at all just coming up towards another fruit and veg shop here check this out a place where you can get your oranges and lemons too I’m sure they’ve got a

Plentyful supply of these it’s also a great place as well look you can come and pick up your mayen wine too anyway let’s take a left here and going and take a walk up towards the lookout and go and get some lovely views over day

Air now I can’t believe it we could be in Spring here I can’t believe this is February we can see look we can see one of the lovely little ceramic shops open down here in DEA Today and this town is just buzzing today with hikers and Sightseers So just turning around here you can see I’m outside the Hotel Des poge very popular hotel right in the center of day here it looks like it’s open actually I can see some some balcony doors to my left hand side but this is a fabulous place I do

Believe to stay if you’re looking stay for a few nights up here in the v AG So we’re just coming up to the church here in De if you want to see what it’s like inside I shall drop a link to a previous video I made up here last year but if you are visiting this wonderful Village then of course I totally recommend making this walk up

Towards the church because we’re going to get the most amazing views of day from up here today now I can’t remember this being here this time last year I saw a fountain at the bottom of the walk but they do have a little drinking fountain here which will come in particularly

Useful during the hot summer months if you’re making this very short walk up to towards the Church of course we’re coming up towards the cemetery where Robert Graves is buried now I’m still none the wiser as to where he is actually buries but maybe if you are

Visiting and you do want to find his grave then just have a little walk around to take a Look So the views from the church really are quite magnificent they stretch right over the hotel residencia which you can just see in the distance here which is a very very popular hotel with celebrities you come and stay here over the summer months but look check this

Out the views ahead on right the way down towards cadaa down to the sea too now if you’d like to know how to walk to cadaa check out a video as well which I made I’ll link to it right at the end of this video too there’s another really

Fantastic walk that you can make out of peak season also I have one of the resident cats joining me on my walk today this is the same little fellow that I see all the time you’re going to see a lot of stray cats up here and actually many of them are quite friendly

Too up in De but this is definitely worth the Walk so the main difference that we can see from Winter’s gone by over here in DEA is that now we’re starting to see almost a year round tourism offering in these little old towns in myor now previously it used to be the case that most of the businesses were closed

There’s maybe one or two restaurants open and today and we haven’t even hit March yet we can start to see some shops actually starting to open and a few more restaurants too not to mention as well just the streams of tourists already pouring through the village and this was

Almost unheard of just a couple of years ago obviously it’s helps by the fact we’ve got quite a nice mild sunny day today it’s very warm actually for many of the visitors that we have over here I’ve seen people walking around in shorts and t-shirts still not that warm

For me just yet so we’re going to see in years to come as well Villages like this are going to not be quite as quiet as they have been in previous Years Gone by over the winter months in fact it’s going to be increasingly harder to get that really quiet Oldtown experience

So how busy is Deia, Mallorca in Winter? Join me and you may find this video surprising.

In previous years I have visited Deia (Deya) village in winter to find it to be very cold and quiet, but that is not the case today.

I start my walk at the entrance to Deia when arriving from Valldemoss, and walk through the village and up to the church where we get fantastic views from across the area.

  1. Lovely to see more of beautiful Deia Alex. Passed through it on a coach in 2014, but the tour guide explained coaches were not allowed to stop….you can see why! Thanks for another enjoyable video in that beautiful Mallorca spring sunshine πŸ€—

  2. Absolutely beautiful. I just adore those tiny little apartments that look out over the valley. Fabulous video Alex. Special thanks to the gato/gata with the walk on part near the end πŸ˜‚

  3. Heya Alex. Nice to see the oldies visiting deia. πŸ˜‚. Seriously though, I wish I was also there at time of filming. Looks very stunning for sure. Let's hope there are no plans for a mercerdona in that village. Luv ya and keep filming. 😊

  4. Absolutely stunning video. One of my favourite places, I love all the stone buildings and you picked a perfect day. Much better now than high summer (crowds). Just a piece of heaven, love the friendly cat, certainly doesn’t look like a stray. Thanks Alex.

  5. I remember when Annie Lennox complained about the tourists on an Instagram post and even more people visited it because she advertised it πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚
