Hello everyone and welcome to my Egptair’s full flight review with trip report elements. On this flight we are in the USA. The flight departs Newark, New Jersey (NJ) and ends almost 10 hours later in Cairo, Egypt. In order to better understand the flight, I displayed flight information every 15 minutes as well as a small map showing where the aircraft is currently located. Of course I also documented the service.
Unfortunately, I also noticed how Egyptair violated security regulations. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me to call it a one-time violation because it has already happened to me once. What happened? During take-off and landing, the brightness of the cabin must be adapted to the surroundings. If a crash occurs, the eyes do not need any adjustment time. If the cabin is illuminated upon landing, as in this case, the eye needs a certain amount of time to adapt to dark conditions outside the cabin. Time that you don’t have. Such adjustments can take up to 10 minutes depending on age. Every second decides between life and death in such moments. The flight attendants are responsible for each passenger and are therefore obliged to take care of this. Checking whether the passenger is fasten the seatbelt and the seat is in the horizontal position does not entirely cover the safety regulations. The crew’s behavior was exemplary throughout the flight, but they were grossly negligent during the landing approach.
For the future, I would like Egyptair to better fulfill its obligations before it is too late.

About Egyptair
Egyptair is the state-owned flag carrier of Egypt The airline is headquartered at Cairo International Airport, its main hub, operating scheduled passenger and freight services to more than 75 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Egyptair is a member of Star Alliance and the Arab Air Carriers Organization.
Alan Muntz, chairman of Airwork, visited Egypt in 1931; at that time, he expressed his intention of starting up a new airline in the country. The new enterprise was named Misr Airwork, with ″Misr″ being Arabic for Egypt. On 31 December 1931, the government granted the new company the exclusivity of air transport operations. A division of Misr Airwork named Misr Airlines was established on 7 June 1932, ″to promote the spirit of aviation among Egyptian youth″, becoming the seventh carrier in the world. The headquarters of Misr Airwork, S.A.E. was in Almaza Aerodrome, Heliopolis, Cairo.
1935 – A total of 12 De Havilland were added to the fleet. During the Second World War, the Egyptian government took over the airline and changed its name to Misr Airlines.
1946 – The name Misr Airlines was changed to MisrAir and 10 Beechcraft were purchased adding American technology to the fleet.
1949 – MisrAir bought 10 Vickers Vikings and the following year put into service a French Aircraft, the Languedoc.
1960 – MisrAir merged with Syrian Airlines forming a new identity “United Arab Airlines-UAA”. UAA enhanced the fleet with Comet 4-c jets becoming the first carrier in the Middle East to use these jets.
1968 – UAA introduced the Boeing 707-320c to manage growing international traffic and operate longer routes.
1969 – UAA became the first airline in the Middle East to fly Boeing 707s.
1971 – MisrAir and Syrian Airlines split which resulted in the new identity “EGYPTAIR”.
2002 – By the Presidential Decree number 137/2002, EGYPTAIR became a Holding Company with seven subsidiaries.
2008 – On July 17th 2008, EGYPTAIR joined the Star Alliance network, the largest airline alliance in the world, to offer its customers better flight connections and more comfortable travel. EGYPTAIR’s membership to the Star Alliance network is unique in that it is the only airline that is based in North Africa and Middle East that is part of the network.
