Risparmiata dai BOMBARDAMENTI π Sopravvive Locanda di 850 anni πΊ Ratisbona
And for the last German stop we go towards our beloved Danube where we will even sleep on an island in the middle of the river. Hi beautiful! Then we will drink the local beer and eat what has been eaten in that tavern for 800 years. And inside there are the ladies who cook.
Good morning, we are still in the Bavarian woods, but not for long. I think the next destination is also in Bavaria. Oh well, come on, it’s the details, anyway we’re leaving Munich. There is something important that we must tell you, this campsite is located in a Low Emission Zone
And like many German cities they now need this plaque that we bought. So before coming to Germany, in any city, inform yourself. But do these people live here? And despite Monday morning there isn’t a lot of traffic and we are not very far from the centre. What you can glimpse, Allianz Arena,
Where the rest area we told you about is also located. This instead is Regen. I arrive! So, we parked in this car park which is still indicated as a camper stop, not bad. And there’s the river there and we’re actually on an island where like we said, did we say we’re in Regensburg?
No we didn’t say that. We are in Regensburg and as you can see we are not alone. We stopped in Rattisbono, better to say Regensburg for a few reasons, one of them is that we are more or less halfway from our first stop, first stop in the Czech Republic. The other instead…
This one… Danube . And my friends, this is my river, the river of my life. It may be a banality, but like this, I connected with my home, where I was born. And there’s sand too. Hi beautiful. Came to say hello.
We have made several videos in Vukovar where we were born in Croatia on the Danube. But only when you are far away and when you encounter it far away can you realize, unfortunately we realize very often, how much we miss this river. Especially to me who spent practically every free moment.
Although here it is decidedly wider, several hundred metres. Although it must be said that here we are on an island and this is only the sleeve of the river. And it seems there are miles of walks here around the river. It’s true that we are very far from our hometown,
But the landscape seems really familiar. Starting from these willows which obviously grow everywhere there is a river, but here they are particularly widespread. Then let’s not even talk about poplars or chestnuts. But anyway, in general. And now we have found an exit from along the river. Have you seen my hair? Beautiful.
I’d better not wash them anymore. But go! We are still on the outskirts, but here we begin to have a slightly different architecture from what we saw in Munich. Cantilevered windows are inevitable. So called Kibitz Fenster. Are you ready to see the view from the main deck?
I’ll just tell you that SaΕ‘a is already crying. And welcome to Regensburg. There we have an old bridge and a house with many windows that we are going to explore. I don’t know if we will be able to see the cathedral better from closer. And the steamer, the one with the wheel,
The paddles, has rightly become a museum, but it seems like it came out of a comic book. But on the other side a lot of bars, restaurants and above all cruisers. Evidently this restaurant is now closed. We are not sure, but since I always know everything,
This one will surely take you around the river while you eat. Beautiful. Even though a thousand kilometers separate us, I see that the shape of the boats is the same as ours. Yes, when he says we he means where we were born. And the cathedral says it’s time to eat.
Nothing, no video can describe to you how long the Viking Atla is, it’s impressive. I could talk to you for hours about these cruisers, because I grew up watching them when they weren’t yet all so beautiful in crystal, enormous in size, but they were always very
Long, two-storey and strictly white, in fact we called them the biancane. Look, one is coming. Wow, this is a river cruise. More than a cruise, this is a very local riverside sightseeing tour. But I remember a film made more or less a hundred years ago, it’s called “Goodbye Mr
Chips” and it’s about an English college professor who went on a cruise, we’re really talking about a hundred years ago and the boats were just like I described them to you. We’re not exactly cruise types, but maybe with a boat I could even go back down the Danube, but who knows, sooner
Or later maybe we’ll do a little deeper trip too and we’ll let you know. The company that owns this cruiser is called “Barefoot” and I’ve already relaxed. It will be a torpedo like the one in Munich, let’s go and see later.
And as far as we can see, there is only food here, so this is a restaurant. This very wide shape and flat keel allows it to have a very low buoyancy level which is essential for the river, even though the Danube is navigable for I think more than two thousand kilometres.
Viking Atla, the one you saw before the long one, instead a real cruiser is precisely because here on this side there is the restaurant and on the other side there are the rooms. We knew that the Danube is here obviously, but we didn’t know that it
Caused us all these emotions and I think they came out for a moment, but I wanted to give you an answer to those who ask themselves, why do they say that the Danube is blue? I also found the answer in a film, the one I mentioned before,
Mr Chips, which says “the Danube is only blue in the eyes of lovers”. And this is a whale. For me it’s an interpretation of the whale, because this one looks too much like a torpedo. Shorts here too. I choose the color, this is the whole dress not just the shirt.
But do I or don’t I look like Rapunzel? Not only do all roads lead to Rome, but also from Rome, because this city here, Regensburg, was built by Marcus Aurelius with the name Castreregina. Regensburg actually means “fortress on the Regen”.
The only thing left from the fortress, which at the time had four turrets, a moat, all around, imagine SaΕ‘a’s joy if he could see it, is the Porta Praetoria with its turret, but they fit it perfectly into modern architecture. Two hundred meters, already the second shop selling Christmas decorations, but these seem ancient.
No, we must stay away from German pastry shops, absolutely. And I won’t even tell you that we came back later to get a dessert, it’s a coffee. In the main street Goliath Strasse, a few steps from the Porta Romana where we stayed, you find this house with this huge painting of
David and Goliath, which is one of the most characteristic houses in Regensburg. There is also a train. Oh, but it’s how the Germans are organised, on each carriage there is a sticker with the country’s flag, so you know which one to enter to listen in your language.
Going through the door behind me, you enter the Altes Rathaus, where the Reichstag assembly once took place, which were actually the assemblies of the princes of the Holy Roman Empire, which were later dissolved by Napoleon. Inside you can take guided tours, we weren’t able to book one, but
We still managed to go up to the first floor and I tell you, it’s worth going to visit that alone. There is also a deer in the net. The first thing you notice when you arrive in Regensburger or Regensburg, as you like, are these streets with the colorful houses and their towers.
In fact there is something special about Regensburg, if a medieval knight were to come here now, he would orient himself perfectly, because nothing has changed. What a spectacle this alley is. We noticed that there are a lot of bull houses in Rattisbon, once upon a time
Wealthy families competed to see who could make it the tallest. This one right now is the highest and most old town of Regensburg and in the centre, if I’m not mistaken, there are as many as thirty of them. Venetian windows also in Regensburg. It’s exactly where we found the Venetian windows, we
Also found the house where Oskar Schindler lived with his wife after the war. You know Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List, this gentleman was a member of the Nazi party, but he did everything to save his Jewish workers from persecution.
It is not a museum, it cannot be visited, it is a private home, but the city of Regensburg was keen to put up the commemorative plaque in its honour. We ended up in the courtyard of a hotel with a beautiful beer garden behind it. But given the period it is closed.
In the city of Rattisbon there is a master plan designed specifically to prevent citizens from escaping from the centre, with this master plan the large companies cannot come and buy the building and do what they want, because the plan foresees exactly what can be done and where , even with which colors.
And therefore even in the very full historic center you will find someone who will give you the keys. In this shop they sell spices, at first I thought it was a perfumery, look at the candlesticks. And we arrived at the Rattisbon Cathedral, which is one of the largest cathedrals in Bavaria.
As you can see it is impressive in Gothic style and as you can see before you can see it from every part of the city. You could bet it was under renovation. Also here in the cathedral square we also find Napoleon’s house.
It’s immense, it’s totally dark inside, this is the Sony that sees. But did you know that Pope Emeritus Ratzinger is a native of Rattisbon? We wanted to eat at this place here, Wurstkuchl, where they eat the famous Regensburg sausages. This place has existed practically since the Middle Ages,
Because the workers and laborers who built the bridge ate here. We made it, the queue was for take away. I started with the bread and picked up an English menu. The bread has a little cumin, very good. A little more. So, we opted for their sausages made right by them…
The radler also arrived. However we opted for the sausages, the ones they make, with the sauerkraut and let’s try to see if there is also that famous potato salad. And then the bread they produce. All right. And since as good Germans we also ordered the potato salad, they thanked us.
And this is the basket with the bread. And inside there are the ladies who cook. Thank you. Danke Enough? I think so, sorry. They are very tasty, completely different from all the ones we have tried so far. I think we’ll get four more. Sauerkraut is sauerkraut, but still good if you like it.
The salad is also good, and the cucumbers in the potato salad are a must. Ah, it’s the mustard mixed with horseradish, it’s not like the one Alba brings us, it’s sweet but it also has horseradish in it in my opinion. I go for the sauerkraut. Hot.
It’s not strange that this place has existed since the middle, the sausages are out of this world, the beer is very light, slightly bitter and delicious, their beer, I don’t even remember the name anymore. Maja’s Radler is a real sucker, just the way she likes it. Yes but it’s good, sorry.
So let’s make a cover. You made the shoe. Maja went to make a withdrawal because here we only pay in cash and we don’t have enough money. But I wanted to tell you that this is an authentic city, what does that mean?
It means that it was not bombed, one of the very few cities during the Second World War, other cities like Nuremberg which seems ancient was actually built piece by piece, but they were good. I returned and it is not strange that this town has become a UNESCO heritage site,
But whether you believe it or not in the sixties there were citizens of Regensburg who asked to demolish some old houses to build new buildings, luckily the idea hasn’t passed. We’re coming to the bridge! I never understood these red and white German shutters.
By climbing this bridge you will enter directly into the Middle Ages as it was built in the 12th century. But to build it they say they made a pact with the devil. Legend has it that the builder of the bridge promised the devil the first
Three souls to cross the bridge, but the builder was clever and deceived the devil by sending a dog, a hare and a hen onto the bridge. But in our history no animal was sacrificed. And from the bridge you can see the tower with the clock and the inevitable cathedral.
This is a spectacular place to come fishing, in fact I see one. He thinks so too. And to get back to Charlie we take the walk along this bank of the river. Show. And here we are back. I put on my slippers and since it’s the working day I get to work.
Tonight the delicate soup with barley, faro and oats, my favourite. The one that is cooked on a low heat and takes three hours to cool. Looks like we’re there. Two minutes ready, twenty minutes to cool. And if we don’t finish eating before the premiere we will eat during. And we are finally ready.
But before saying goodbye and wishing you goodnight, we felt it necessary to say something that perhaps we have already said several times. We came here to just wander around for a couple of hours, but instead we found an incredible town. Yes, in fact, it is a fantastic medieval historic town,
What you find written doesn’t give you an idea, so you have to come… Yes but starting from the shops, the shop windows, not what they contain but how they are made, the colours, small balconies overhang. The turrets. Then the Danube. Danube is always magnificent. Anyway, see you tomorrow, goodnight, goodnight,
At this point we leave Germany and go to another country devoted to beer, the Czech Republic, the first tapa can only be the city of Plzen with its soterrans and obviously the Pilsner Urquell.
