FLOODED AIRE – Where can we go?

The entire air is underwater what’s Plan B we haven’t got a plan B good morning bonjour we’re in France uh as you can see Vines behind us there and quite a lovely View for the countryside um guess what we’re in one of these again and we get a lot of questions

Every time we show this respect specs little wonky up there don’t they every time we show you these places we get loads of questions about them so I thought I would really sort of give you an explanation about how you use them now this is a camping car car park run

By this company now historically what they did was they bought up a lot of campsites Municipal campsites and free airs uh tarted them up uh put new facilities in made them nice which they have they’re all lovely and um charge for them now you have to use a card which

You load with credit to get in and out of these places and I’m going to explain carefully how it’s all done so the first thing you come to when you come to one of these is a barrier and a couple of machines and I’m going to show you

What the machines do now if you haven’t got one of these cards and you want one there’s two ways of getting them you can order one from the UK cost £5 and it’s delivered to you or you can just come to one of these places and buy them at the

Barrier cuz they all have these so I’ll show you now as you can see uh it’s got some special information on the screen here and it’s saying for reasons and winter conditions the grassy area is closed so that means that cuts down the amount of pitches that are

Available on here I speak English nice and easy I’m a motor home user now I can put money onto my card here see it’s offering me the opportunity to put 50 on um I can check my balance here we go look I want to check my balance there we go I’ve got

5425 left and after billing me this morning when I leave I’m going to have € 4225 left here’s how you get your card out of one of these machines I speak English I’m a motor home user continue create an account there we go and that gives you

All the details I won’t go through it but uh it gives you all the details and everything you need to put in so your phone number um um it’s saying I need to put a phone number in but anyway that’s how you do that uh you can pay by

Card uh you top your card up by scanning it and when you order a card that’s the little slot it’ll be delivered to you out of so you bought your card you want to come in I’m not going to do this you just touch your card just hold it near

Here barrier all open you’re in now initially you come in there’s two things that can happen you can either stay here for a couple of hours do all your services everything’s here there’s water here there’s a toilet drop here uh there’s a gray drop here spend a couple of hours you’ll get charged

5 or you can stay and that price will actually come off your card now last night I think this was about1 uh and you get 24 hours now in that 24 hours you can come and go as you want um but you are charged at the end of

Your stay so say for example our stay here ends about 5:00 tonight or 5:00 later this afternoon say we wanted to go to the shops we would leave and we wouldn’t be charged yet the card would then charge us at 5:00 p.m. whether we’ve come back or we’ve not

Come back if we’re here at 5 1 minute past 5 you’re already into your next day so bear that in mind the wonderful thing about these and we haven’t done it yet but we’re going to you have a brilliant app with it it tells you how

Many places are left so we can look at the air that perhaps we want to to go to tonight and it’ll say there are 18 places out of 30 left so we know that the spaces left at that air um but for an extra I think it’s nearly

€30 you can make it a bookable system and you can book up to six months in advance different places so if you wanted to plan a trip and make sure you could get on these airs just for the cost of €30 it is then a bookable system where you get confirmed

Bookings we haven’t done it yet cuz we didn’t need it on this trip coming back in the summer we’re going to do it then so definitely good there are two types of sites there’s this one is an air it’s just a simple air as you can

See during the summer they let you park on the grass here and you know it’s not too bad actually look they’ve got um little con conrete studs in the floor so you know to be honest in theory you could still use that at this time of year even if it was

Muddy and then they got some grally ones further down then there’s camping I think it’s camping at my Village and they are old Municipal airs and they are like campsites they are beautiful uh you don’t seem to have a problem with getting your chairs and tables out you would not get your chairs

And tables out here this is an air the camping in my Village that’s more a campsite it’s an old campsite that’s been changed into one of these so yeah a lot of people complain that a lot of the free or very very cheap Municipal airs were taken over by

This company but I think they’re providing a brilliant service so I know at the beginning of our trip we used these a lot the last two nights we’ve used these um last night we didn’t film CU we were knackered because of trying to get out of the snow and everything we

Stayed a um a camping one of these but it was the village campsite type um on the Pyrenees or in the Pyrenees it’s gorgeous the view of the Pyrenees stunning £1 a night anyway time for us to move on today we are hoping to get up near uh

Just below tour today so I don’t know whether that’ll happen or not um you can see the road we’re going to go on possibly behind us here yesterday we made great progress because on Sundays in France there’s no lorries allowed on the motorways so you always make great to be

Honest that’s the same in Germany Italy there’s a few countries that it’s the same so big travels always trying to do on a Sunday um but yeah we’re off now hopefully we make it to where we’re planning and it’ll be a fairly easy journey I hope I

Hope I hope it’s nice enough here it’s a bit cool this morning but not too bad I’ll go see what Reddit is doing all right all right time for the Silver Screen Off yeah we had this on because it was cold but it was piding down so

It’s a compromise yeah it gets wet but it lives in the shower tray when it’s wet but look this is us we slept in the van everything was shut because the rain was coming in through the sunroof everything was shut and there you go that’s the condensation nothing just a tiny little

Bit down here tiny bit there but otherwise to that yeah Crystal Clear God send and it keeps it warm as well yes so yeah that was a really good bit of Kit it fits on with a a loop over the door and a bit of Velcro on this side perfect

Fit and it was windy last night and it doesn’t even move you would think with I’ll show you how an a class fits one of these so there you go see yeah I’ve already taken the uh the window po proper that’s it see you see and and it

Hooks over the door on the other side isn’t it simple as that okay so this is the ballards that we use and this is the first time in all of the travels through Spain and France over the last couple of months I’ve come across a two

Pin on this site they’re all two pin so you’ve got your your your standard resets up there but on this one you’ve just got to be mindful that you’ve got a two pin connector so all I’ve bought is that which is a adapter that I got from

Amazon think it’s about four or five quid but it gives you a three pin to two pin so yeah as I said you’ve got your three pin that end your two pin that end that goes into there sometimes you’ll get reverse polarity show up on Vans with it our Auto Trail had

It this one hasn’t to be honest it doesn’t really make much difference uh but there you go so yeah I would recommend you carry one of these with you just in case you get to a site and it’s all Tupid there is a life right so we’ve um come all the way up to tour and there was a place that was one of the camping car Parks we wanted to visit in particular because it’s in the GRS of a shadow so uh I checked it online and it said all 50 out

Of 50 spaces were free which seemed a bit odd but anyway uh we’ve just pulled up now and we’ve realized why uh there has been Heavy Rain very very heavy rain but the entire air is underwater I can see I think it’s a British van has just pulled in this part

There I don’t know if we can get possibly not no no we’re going to have to uh it’s like a lake yeah uh no one’s going in there definitely no one staying in there they have had some serious rain Here And you can see the entire air is completely flooded Plan B what’s Plan B we haven’t got a plan B uh those people had a plan B they just parked outside we’re going to have to go and find somewhere else to park um yeah we noticed that the fields had

An awful lot of rain on them but we’re not going to get parked here I don’t think um we shall find somewhere else but yeah it’s a shame I was looking forward to showing you the chatau tomorrow I think we better find somewhere else I think we should yeah so

Because we don’t know really when this flooding is stopped yeah or whether it’s just on the way I’m not sure well the ring we had last night I bet this is still coming up it’s horrendous isn’t it really bad the rain here has been terrible right l in situations like this park for

Nights yeah yeah yeah we got enough to do offr oh yeah you see this is just beside a river that’s worrying okay so let’s avoid anything that’s by the river y uh hello on the road again um as always so I hope you enjoyed that video of us uh struggling to get parked

Anywhere in soggy wet flooded France um it was a bit of a nightmare to be honest because everywhere was soaking and even if the airs were dry a lot of the airs in France seem to be next to rivers so unfortunately the rivers were Rising really fast so

Unfortunately as per usual L Clair car park comes to the rescue and they’re really good aren’t they we like aair car park nothing wrong with aair car park cuz you can do your shopping back to the van you get your crossant for breakfast cuz they’re fresh yeah uh so no issues

There the only thing I would say is with the um with the app and the camp in car is this camping car is it this camping car yeah with the apping camping car is the only way you can tell that there’s a problem with flooding or other issues is

If it shows that every single space is free yeah it never says it’s closed due to flooding it never says there’s a problem so you don’t actually know until you get there we we got to we got to two in the end and they were both flooded

Beyond being able to drive in there and the water levels were still Rising so that was abandoned ship it really was yeah I think it was the only thing that actually raised a concern that why is this particular air and the one in the next Village and the next Village empty

Uh but we went to the one worked it out as you could see in the video it was um kneed Deep in water if not more thank goodness no one was parked there overnight or I know whatever but uh yeah uh middle of France at the moment very wet very very wet

South just north of Pyrenees was fine no problem at all but it’s sort of Lair Valley but uh yeah I I believe the sort of North and middle of France is very very soggy it is and we’ve came through some horrendous weather as well yeah so

The flooding there is just tragic uh on the subject of Supermarket car Parks the CLA don’t seem to mind if you park there they seem very very happy with it uh We’ve parked in a few now and it’s not the most glamorous place but it’s a great place to just rest your

Head and you do feel pretty safe there so uh I they don’t mind do they it’s really good and and the good thing is at 10:00 they turn the lights off for you I know actually um when we went in uh turned the lights off at 8:00 p.m.

Suddenly bang Darkness yeah but there we go so yeah the next part of the journey is heading north um and we are going to be aiming for the Vets which I’ve got booked in N chatel ombre um I’ve had recommendations for it I don’t actually

Know the price yet so that’s going to be quite interesting to see what they charge um but I have heard they’re reasonable so who knows yeah but uh it’s by an air we’ve stayed up before in mesnier ombre which is a little village to the other side and it we went there

About two summers ago and it was stunning so we’re going to take you to see that um because uh can’t wait to go there and visit there again cuz we weren’t doing YouTube then so we get some good video of it this time okay so Nicola sent us

This video and this is her miniature poodle Reggie has made us laugh I am with you but I’m just driving in a bit of a jam the moment so uh yeah it stop start traffic so I don’t want to take me eye off the ball too much no

Okay we will see you bye

As we travel back through France we encounter serious floods and the aire we planned to stop at is completely flooded… what next?

  1. We use vets at Neuf Chatel can recommend, not the cheapest nor overly expensive and very thorough and speak good English . We stay at the Aire St Claires next to campsite St Claires (not open until April I think ) The Aire is super clean around 12euros fab dog walk down the lane on tarmac , no vehicles allowed with grass verges . Short walk walk to Le Clerks and Aldi and vets , loads of bars and restaurants . Thanks for detailed info on Pass'Etapes , think something we would use .Love your vlogs keep them up. 🍷

  2. Great vlog. I had a card posted to the UK for our first trip to France due to alot of sites not opening until April. We have paid the extra to be able to book some aires but not all are bookable. Looking forward to trying them out. x

  3. Hey lovelies thanks for showing us about the Camping car park app I have wondered how you reserve spaces but how does it work if three spaces are reserved and there are only 3 spaces left ? Would it not lift the barrier then ? Those floods were bad 😮 glad your all home safe now 🥰 xxx

  4. Hi young Redders's , yep , were back on the move and loving the vlog . Yes , we're on a camping car aire as we speak and use it quite regular and so easy to use . We're at Mimizan , up to Achachon tomorrow then over the Gironde ferry to Larochelle . Didnt realise they had two pin connectors but i do carry one . Good shout . Weather has changed drastically as you know , bloody freezing . Take care , love from the old Redders's .

  5. From snow to flooding roll on spring guys 😎👍we loved watching your Spain trip dreaming of our adventures to come really positive viewing Jude and I now have our new to us van on the drive after a 4 day mini break after getting the van and alls good love it 😊❤️👍downloaded the camping car parks app looks really good 😊 safe travels back 😊❤️👍

  6. Have enjoyed your tour – we haven’t yet ventured to Spain but have done Italy, Belgium Switzerland and ofcourse France. We’ve found the Camping Car Park card/app really good – I inadvertently also paid for the ‘privilages’ facility to book in advance but don’t regret it as it’s good to be able to book if the site is getting full (although I’m never sure if the first figure in bold print is showing the number of full or vacant pitches?? – perhaps the app was showing you that the 50 pitches were full rather than vacant because of the flooding??). When you come back to South Wales it’s raining here too! (although we’ve had a nice few days and even managed to cut the lawns!).

  7. Hi both, we are literally around the same area and heading south because of the rain!! That was a brilliant look at the Camping Car Parks machine, we've been using them for a couple of days and learnt new stuff today!! Really great tip about the supermarket park ups. Brilliant vlog, looking forward to the next one, lots of love Julia and Gary ❤

  8. We have used that cc aire a few times. It’s a nice aire – when it’s not flooded 😅 it’s the only one we have found to be a pig to get out of sometimes and have had to ring them to let us out. There is a nice river walk and the Chateau is nice. Though if you want to stay on an aire that belongs to a Chateau we like Chateau Chambord, you can walk or cycle the grounds after closing, great if you have dogs. €12pn

  9. Hi guys. Looks like Tour was a complete washout, which is a pity. Nicola and I have fond memories of Tour. It's just beautiful. As for Leclerc car parks again fond memories. We were in St Cyprien, in the south of France, and the local Leclerc was incredible, as was the car park. Because it was so hot we found that the best place to park was in the shade of the Leclerc sign.😂

  10. I'm in one now at Charleville-Mézières, I always use them. Electric hook ups. Sites under cctv and can only get out via using card so very secure. I believe in giving something back so yes the company makes money but the commune receives a percentage plus the tourist tax. The setting up of shades, chairs etc is a grey area. I'd just left the aire in Fumay, Belgians and French had kit out etc.

  11. Wow literally you guys have been & seen everything on this tour from bonkers hot weather in Spain to Snow in Spain & now all this Flooding!!😱 What else next!!😬🤷🏼‍♂️ Anyway awesome video & very interesting one about using that card for different places to stay looks an awesome idea especially with the app even tho it didn't show on the app that that park up was flooded!!😬 Lets hope they work on updates for that app for the future?? Great watch as usual guys!!👌🏻👍🏻

  12. Hi, thanks for the info on the camping card set up . Will be using these Aires when we are travelling this year .Sorry bit unlucky with the weather hope it improves for the rest of your travels. Thanks again 👍

  13. We've been using ccp for some time but certainly never been flooded out, the good thing about France though is your never far from a park up, you've experienced all the weather's on this adventure 🥶🥵🌧️, anyway another enjoyable vlog keep them coming 👍.

  14. We like the camping car parks. I think we stayed at the aire you are heading to at Neufchâtel en bray a couple of weeks ago in our journey home. We had already had our dogs wormed at Honfleur, will be interested to see how much it costs you. We did say the aire and vet would be good for our next trip. Safe travels.

  15. Having toured France for 35 years we yearn for a return to the times before CCP started taking over the Aires like a rash removing so much choice, pay for electric whether you need or not (and travelling every day why would you need it). There was a time when we could put more of our money into the local community but now €80 odd a week go to CCP, they must be laughing their heads off at the English, do you see many French using them?

  16. we used the camping car parks last year in France, if you order the card on line you get a big map that shows where about they all are. we paid about 14 euros per night in summer, some had nothing and other had water, toilets, shows, hook up and some even have free wifi.. shame they dont have them in the uk…

  17. Hi
May be a bit late as I have only just seen your vid. Re the vets you are going to I have used them a number of times. I spoke with them a couple of weeks ago and the cost for my Bichon Frise who is 10kgs is 39euros for the exam and 9.92 euro for the tablet. They charge more because they are classed as a vet hospital and in France the animal hospitals normally charge more then the local vets. Great vets loads of parking around. Lovely town with great walks along the old railway line. Vets speak English.

  18. I love your vlogs, I actually fell asleep watching, I have trouble sleeping so thank you. I woke up at 2 am wondering what the hell was happening.

  19. Redders if you have reverse polarity all appliances are still live when switched off so can be a little unsafe 😮. I have a reverse polarity adapter for the mains lead that swaps the conductors around 👍

  20. If you go to Neuf chatel en bray, you must try their famous heart shaped cheese ! Either from cheese shop in town or there is a healthy supermarket opposite the large e.leclerc just down road from the Aire. We used the vets here too
