What Has YouTube Ever Done For Us? | Vanners Collaboration March 2024 #vannerscollaborating

So the subject for this month’s Vanner’s collaboration is. What has YouTube ever done for us? we thought, would we choose this? Because it might be interesting for people who are starting out on YouTube. I know a lot of people are filming the Motorhome and Caravan Journeys,

So we thought it might be useful to have a little discussion. Now don’t forget to watch the other videos in this collaboration because it’ll be interesting to see what YouTube has done for other people. And there will be a link at the end of this video you can watch

And this is the playlist, so please do watch that. Right? So it’s on that. So the first thing we wanted to say was it’s given us a back up income because we’ve just been on your bt pension and state pensions hadn’t kicked in. So it’s been really useful as a backup income.

No idea how anyone would survive on the state pension and no, honestly. So I mean, multiple streams of income have always been important to us and for a long time I was a utility warehouse distributor, so I’m still going to passive income from that. That’s right.

So we have got multiple streams of income. So in that regard, YouTube is one of those. Incomes and it’s also is a passive income in a way because you get money for videos you’ve made in the past. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The second point is it’s taught us new skills, particularly You

Particularly think, you know, Adobe Premiere Pro. Well, yeah. I mean, I’ve had to learn and almost teach myself, but obviously there are YouTube videos for learning how to edit. So I’ve learned to edit using Adobe Premiere Pro, which is one of the tools

That the professionals use that people are making films at every show. So it’s been quite a steep learning curve, but that’s been good because it keeps your brain active at our time of life. I know my brain’s not very active anyway, so yes. It’s improved. Yeah. Yeah.

And then the third one I thought was it’s maintained existing skills and the primarily thinking of me really, because we used to do sage accounts, didn’t we. I used to write databases, spreadsheets, that sort of thing. So having the YouTube channel is given me a reason to sort of carry on doing that.

Think of I was just doing it for our own personal benefit. Okay. It’s interesting, but the fact that we can tell other people how much the vans cost and with how much we. Spend. How much we spend, and. How much we’ve earned from YouTube. Well, yes. And that yes, Yes.

It’s been good from that, from my point of view for that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Number three. That was number three. That was number four. that kept us busy. Yeah. Has it done. That? I’m always I’ve always got something to do. You would just moan it.

Only I thought our thoughts about making YouTube videos was more important than household jobs. Yeah. So I’m always busy. And again, that’s important. You know, you’re not just sitting around vegetating watching daytime TV. Yeah. So what what what really keeps us busy really

Is getting the ideas for videos because that when you’re not touring. Yeah, that’s not very easy to do. And then actually recording them. Sometimes we have sound issues, no we never have sound issues. And then there’s the editing. And the editing can be quite lengthy if you do discover.

You’ve got sound issues A problem. Yeah, You’re thinking of the last video. I’m thinking of the last one. That time we went round someone’s big cathedral and we had no sound at all and you had to get it off the back up.

But did you back up things and link it to the video? So it’s kept us busy. Yeah. I suppose also having a YouTube channel about motorhomes has kept our interest in motorhomes as well. That’s what I’m coming on to on the next point. Yeah. Just read it there. You just. Yeah. Yeah.

I mean we’ve always been interested in the time used to go to the shows and everything, but it’s kept us wanting to try and keep up to date because specially we’re going to the shows. I mean it’s no good just turning up and wandering around.

So not saying what, Who’s this and what’s that. Yeah. I tried to do is I’ve read magazines before. We go and see what they suggest we look out. Yeah. Well that type of thing. So the fact that we go to a show and we’ve got a reason for going

Because we’re filming and we go to motorhome dealers, you go to Todds regularly, you got another reason to go to Todds apart from just taking the van for a service. Yeah. So getting there. Yeah. And product reviews. yes. Yeah. Then quickly. Yeah. But they’re, they’re interesting.

I know we get a lot of free stuff, you know, I don’t say Yeah, yeah, we admit it and, but it’s interesting, you know, if people send you some free stuff and you’re not going to say no really, but it’s a trade off is now I have to study these products.

I have to understand how they work and try and explain it to other people. Again, it’s keeping my interest and it keeping my brain going as well. Yeah. I mean, I was thinking of the swift control panel. Yeah. That they sent us.

I mean, you spent quite a lot of time over the weekend printing out the manual, trying to understand it. So there’s always that background to product reviews. It isn’t just sitting in front of the camera and saying, Wow, yeah, yeah, this is good or bad. Not that I ever go, Wow. No, no,

I’m not. Also borrowing motorhomes. I mean, that’s been a great side of it. Yeah. To help other people who are perhaps thinking of buying that particular van. Yeah, we’ve bought a malibu some way. Yeah, they borrowed the Baileys. Yeah. Yeah. It’s a something most people don’t get to try.

When you when you buy a car, they might take you for a test drive in the car, but very rarely do you actually get to live in a motorhome. You know, you might be thinking about buying. So we’re hopeful. We’re hopeful that that sort of video really help people decide what works

And what doesn’t work. I mean, we know it works different things work. For different for us, and it really helped us. Yeah. So. Yeah, I’m sure. And the final thing. Yeah, put this boosted our self and now I’m thinking of the positive side of YouTube. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

It can have the opposite effect. Yeah. I’m thinking of things like when you get lots of views for a video and you get lots of thumbs up, positive comments. I mean, when people say, You’re the reason I bought a motorhome and they thanked you when you

Did your new for my son say, yeah, help them. It just simple things like how to empty the loo. Yeah so all those sort of things keep you going there. Yeah. I mean we have been times when we felt a bit down about whether we should carry on or not,

And that has always been one of the reasons we’ve. Moved that we feel that. Way. Yeah, Yeah, right. And when you go on. The most. Important. All right. I thought that was the final one. No, no, no, no. Less important one, I think, is meeting new people and friends. Yeah.

I mean, we’ve met a lot of fellow YouTubers now because we’ve been on YouTube. We wouldn’t have known. No, it wouldn’t known. A lot of people, you know, and people know us as well. So. So yeah, that’s a real benefit. Yeah. So I hope you find this interesting.

And if you did, please watch the other videos. I’m curious to know what people think they get out of YouTube. It might not all be positive. So yeah, let’s give them a watch. But if you watch the video that’s at the bottom here, down here somewhere. Yeah. You can see the playlist.

So please do watch that. And one of the reasons we do YouTube is to help other people as well. And that will be help in those channels. That’s right. Yes. Yes, Please watch them. So thanks for watching. We’ll see you soon. Bye Then.

Answering the age old question, why do we do YouTube? Watch the videos in the playlist below and we might find out.

  1. Good valid points there specifically thinking what to do for next video if your not away . Bob and Jenny . I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets complained to about doing the YouTube editing rather than doing the house work πŸ˜‚

  2. Some really interesting points there and resonate well – for us it gives us a reason to be active and go out and about and pushes us to try different places we might not otherwise and as you both have said it keeps you active. All the very best, David & Rachel πŸ‘

  3. Great video. Honest and open as always. Interesting that you are on a BT pension like myself up here in Morecambe. I joined Post Office Telephones back in 1973 when Morecambe exchange was manual. I believe that Southport was after us?. YouTube can be a wonderful and supportive place and I have several channels but I am enjoying starting with Motorhoming and I am finding people engage much better with the videos. I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people by making YouTube videos. That said, I have never earned a penny from them as yet :). Keep up the good work. I always look forward to your videos and as we start our adventures, I always turn to your channel to look for your site reviews. Ian

  4. This is such a great subject.
YT has been a brilliant hobby. Love the filming and editing
We’re just staring out (at 65) and I reckon you can definitely teach an old dog new trips πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ
Your vids have helped us immeasurably πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

  5. I always enjoy your videos immensely. They are so helpful and informative. You’re my first port of call if I need help or advice having only been motorhoming for about 2 years. If I need help I always say β€œI’ll just ask Bob and Jenny β€œ. Thank you both for what you do!

  6. If you’re looking for content suggestions – I’m 70 in August and want to keep my C1 licence. The process to do this is not clear to me and Google searches have not uncovered much help so a piece from yourselves would be welcomed. Love your videos we used yours to help us buy our first one.

  7. Well done guys πŸ‘Œ I don't know anyone thats made anything out of YouTube like yourselves i enjoy making and editing films and yes you do make friends which us good πŸ‘Œ anyway keep up the good work Glyn

  8. If someone had told me before Covid I’d own a motorhome I’d have told them they were bonkers – for me, holidays had to include a return flight somewhere exotic! Nearly three year’s on, it’s the best thing we ever did – a steep learning curve but it’s thanks to people like you both that we quickly got up to speed with it all so thank you – I think unlike some, your advice is sage, honest and without self promotion – please keep it up!

  9. Thank you. I get a lot out of the videos to sites. The access and the route. For me its important to see the route and the access. Some parts wont appeal to all, but you can skip the bits you dont want to see. I have taken up manyof your suggestions and ideas. The cup holder was the first idea we adopted. I guessed you were an ex BT engineer given how technical you were. My wife a fully qualified engineer years ago was interviewed for a job by BT until they found out she was a woman!! They didnt recruit women engineers then! She is unusual that she can read morse code. The season is soon upon us and I look forward to future adventures. 13 Days to go for our first outing.

  10. Thank you Bob ,Jenny, Poppy. I agree alot of new MH channels now , not for me , I like to stick with the people I feel I have built a repour with. definitely you , Andrew, and Cameron McNeish. Keep going as your enjoying it.

  11. Throughly enjoy your videos since I found your channel over 4 years ago. You produce a great amount of content that is extremely useful for a novice motorhome owner like myself. I can go out to the van with my mobile and do work on it and pause the video when I get stuck and review it. The touring part is also very enjoyable and gives me ideas for where I can go. You have even pointed me in the right direction for storage as you stayed on a site outside of Carlisle that offered storage and they are just down the road from me!

  12. Hi Bob, Jenny and Poppy, it’s thanks to you Bob doing a review of the Auto Trail F60 that I went and bought one which is absolutely perfect for me and Coco. Thanks for all your hard work.πŸ‘πŸ‘

  13. We are so sorry we didn’t join the collaboration this month. We appreciate and can relate your list of things YouTube has done for you and although we just enjoy it as a hobby, we have the same ups and downs too. We really enjoy your channel and YouTube would not be the same without you both. Take care and see you soon πŸ˜ƒπŸ’™πŸš Trev n Sue

  14. Just love your videos, they are fun and so informative. I also love how you show all aspects of getting to various sites and in particular the entrance to the sites. You are very honest about the income you make from YouTube, which others do not tell you about, and the cost of your travels. It would be lovely if we met up one day and have a good chat about Motorhomes. Keep up the good work 😊and thank you.

  15. There are many 'You Tubers' out there, making videos. However, I think you guys are more professional in your presentations. Your videos are very informative and well presented, whereas some of the others I see are pretty amateurish, with too much waffle. You've got the balance right.

  16. Interesting listening to your thoughts, we agree it’s lovely meeting new people & fellow you tubers 😁 You certainly helped keep us entertained during the lockdowns by watching your past videos. Thank you for that πŸ’• Em πŸ’œ

  17. Yes, a lot of work involved in making videos but we'll worth it I find.
We've never managed to borrow a motorhome despite Mr Safety Owl contacting several companies πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
