Von Bayern nach Stonehenge: Mit Hund zur Wintersonnenwende! 🏴
Yes, the dog is wondering what’s going on here? So many packed suitcases! Because the dog and I are going to Stonehenge tomorrow to celebrate the winter solstice with other people! Come on now! Yes, I have to say that I always enjoy that feeling when I’m driving with such a packed car!
And I have everything with me. I have food with me, for me and the dog, which is of course very important! I have all my equipment with me, from the drone to the film camera to the action camera. And that always gives me such a feeling of freedom.
The entire route from where I start here, in the south of Bavaria, in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, which is right at the bottom of the mountains, is 1,300 kilometers. But of course we won’t drive it in one piece. That would be too much, you wouldn’t be able to do it if you drove alone.
I’ve already driven the route there and back three times. And I actually always stayed overnight once. And even with an overnight stay, it’s really tiring and stressful to do that. Because you always have to expect that you will get into a traffic jam,
That you can’t always plan it that way, that you avoid rush hour traffic, and that there are also construction sites. So I planned a lot of time this time! And I’ll make a few intermediate stops, including a detour to Brittany. Because there are also some beautiful stone monuments there.
Which I will of course show you. We have reached our first stopover. We were now on the road for a good 2.5 hours. And it’s freezing cold! 1 degree! I have something here that I want to show you! This is a very special rock! There’s a gigantic cave in there!
And that is the Hollow Rock! Where the Venus of Hohle Fels was found. So there is the lady! You can also see the original, very close by, in the neighboring town of Blaubeuren, in the Documentary Museum. But I visited them a few years ago. That’s why we’re not doing that today.
But Blaubeuren and Schelklingen, where the cave is, were right on the way. And that’s why I thought it would make for a wonderful walk. In the cave they not only found Venus but also a flute made of vulture bones. Both around 40,000 years old! This is so fascinating! Can you imagine
That 40,000 years ago, people already lived here and created such wonderful art. In winter this cave is closed because of the bats. From 01.11. closed until April 30th… that means we have to talk quietly now… because the bats are sleeping! And we don’t want to disturb them.
There are also private tours that one can book to visit this cave. And I did that a few years ago. And that was so fascinating! Going into this gigantic cave… It felt like going into the womb of the Earth Goddess. The hiking trail is called the Eiszeitjägerpfad . Yes, I think that fits!
Let’s see if we can kill a mammoth? I’m starting to get hungry! And this is our little cave. I think the dog has had enough now. It was cold and windy and it snowed a bit. Now I’m happy, we’ll be at the accommodation soon. 20 minutes left.
All the street signs are covered in snow so that you can no longer see the speed limit. It was extremely tiring to drive on the highway. Now I’m about to pass Luxembourg. And this time I’m really glad that there’s no rush hour traffic,
Because otherwise you could be stuck in a traffic jam here for ages. Good morning lovelys. It’s just before 7:00 a.m. And the dog and I spent the night in Reims. We have a wonderful room again, in private accommodation. Right in the city center and for 35 EUR a night!
I don’t think you can complain about that. Now we’ll go for a walk… and then we’ll continue to the west of France… to Brittany! “Hello, good morning!” The dog was cute! He somehow reminded me of Gérard Depardieu, in dog form! Yes, dear ones, that can happen if you
Book a cheap room for 50 EUR a night in the offseason… ..then you get a whole rustic country house included! Because I seem to be the only guest! Look at this! With oven! I think the dog loves it too! Maxl, this is our room for the night! Look, how noble! Kitchen
And the bedroom! Well, you immediately feel at home! Typical German black bread! Oh no, it’s pouring rain! The dog and I arrived in Brittany yesterday… and now I was having breakfast at McDonalds… and while I was there, it started pouring rain! Oh no… Now I actually have no choice
But to wait a bit in the car… He’s already made himself comfortable… A little bit of drizzle doesn’t matter, but when it pours like that, it’s fine etching something… because you’re immediately soaked… Oh my God, and now it’s even hailing! I actually wanted to look at the Carnac stones today…
That’s a very famous stone formation… … and now it’s hailing! I’m obviously the only person here… The parking lot is yawningly empty… And luckily it’s stopped raining, that’s always the good thing about coastal weather… that the weather can change four times in half an hour . .. from rain, sun, rain, sun…
Now I hope that it stays dry a little longer… at least for my visit here! Is that cool! It’s like a stone landscape! They are all sitting here as ordered and not picked up . Archaeologists and historians are still puzzling over these old megalithic complexes… what significance they once had for people…
And there are always many different theories. .. You can see here that these stones are all arranged in rows of stones. Could this have represented an ancient calendar system? Some suspect that this could also be an ancestral temple… Where each stone represents someone who has died…
So I would say that is an older lady! Or? Looks like Aunt Gerda! Look at this rainbow! It’s beautiful! These rows of stones are interrupted by a road… you can’t get into the second part… you can also see that they are blocked off with a fence… because there are sheep there.
And it’s starting to rain again! I actually just want to go to the end of this series to see if there’s anything special coming up? Otherwise, we’ll do it again… What I notice is that in the second part, compared to where we were before, they’re much bigger! Crazy, these stones are gigantic!
Whereas back there were more like baby stones. Oh sweet, look who’s sitting there! Hello! That was a robin! There’s another museum here. I’m of course off-season now, which has the advantage that I was completely alone… but unfortunately a lot of things like museums are closed…
The rows of stones at Carnac are no longer on this scale in Europe is a unique example of monumental architecture. Thousands of stones that have been placed here since the 5,000th millennium BC stretch over a distance of more than 4 kilometers. Yes, that is respectable! We have a vet appointment right now…
Because he needs to be dewormed in order to travel to England . It must not be older than 5 days, but also not shorter than 24 hours. And this has to be done in the presence of the doctor… You can’t pick up the tablet and then give it yourself…
The doctor must enter this on his pet ID card. Well, we did it! That was a really great vet appointment. Normally he’s always completely panicked! But I think he only half knew he was at the vet! And French veterinarians probably have a very special touch!
Navi: “Turn right at exit 47 towards Car Ferry” Where do I have to go? PO Ferry… no… DFDS… exactly! There are always the names of which ferry you are taking up there… Hello… Bonjour… Okay, we have to go to Lane 123… Merci! Nope… 1123! Now I think the border controls are coming…
First the French, then the English… Do we have anything to declare, Maxl? Did you smuggle something with you? What I always like to do when I’m in the port of Calais… and have arrived at my destination, so to speak, is that I immediately enter my new destination in England,
Because it makes it so much easier for me to do that straight away I have a navigation device that tells me how to drive. Because, you’ll see when you get to the port of Dover, it’s at least as confusing as it is here… that you don’t know where you have to go…
If you have a navigation system that will guide you , from the moment you get down from the ship… it’s very relaxing! And that gives you more security. I don’t think he could do much with my mess back there… he took a look… So now we have to concentrate again Yupp, 1123!
Yes, that’s right! Oh crazy, the weather is suddenly really cold! Well, stay, I’ll come back! Deck 5, I have to remember that! Because the first time I was here on the ferry… I panicked because I didn’t know which deck I was on! And that’s in such a big ship…
When you know it’s time to leave… and everyone else is already sitting in their cars… and you’re looking for your car… then you can easily panic receive! Walking on the ferry can sometimes be a bit funny… because the ship is of course already swaying,
So sometimes you have the feeling that you’re swaying ever so slightly… like when you’re a little drunk! The things are all secured here… otherwise they would all end up on the floor. Oh man, I’m just glad my dog is a little deaf now… because it’s so loud!
That’s always the familiar noise you hear on the ferry… The car alarms, which of course go off… because there’s jerking and rocking on a ferry. Now we’re almost there. You can already see the white cliffs of Dover, even if it probably doesn’t come across well in the camera.
Navi: “Leave the roundabout at the first exit…” Okay Maxl, you’re back in the UK! And we have typical English weather! I’ve just arrived at the hotel, the Stonehenge Inn… And it’s so beautiful here, they’ve converted everything here… there’s a double-decker bus where children are playing…
And they have lots of converted construction trailers here … and this type of accommodation is my favorite because it feels like having your own little apartment. When I booked the accommodation at the beginning of June, I was skeptical at first!
Because I thought to myself, a shepherd’s hat like that, hopefully you won’t freeze there in the winter… Hopefully they have electricity… hopefully they have heating… But they have everything here! Hello, good morning dear ones. It’s just after 4 o’clock… the dog and I are ready!
When the alarm went off earlier, I was in shock… and thought to myself… what’s going on? And then I realized… oh, we’re driving close to Stonehenge! The car park opens in an hour… at 5:15 a.m…. And I just wanted to be on the safe side…
Because I have no idea how many people are going to come today… I hear the neighbors are already awake too, they’ll probably go there now too… Stonehenge is about 10 minutes away from here… I have to say, I didn’t sleep well last night because of all this… .
The alarm goes off again, I want to make sure I don’t miss the winter solstice! 4:20 a.m …. because the outside lights were all on, from these train cars… and there are only such thin curtains here… and then everything was so bright here, and then I just can’t sleep! But whatever! I’m ready!
I specially put on my beautiful Druid Torc… and my Druid Dress… I can’t stand out in the crowd! Dear ones, I would say let’s do it! Let’s go to Stonehenge! See you soon! I can’t tell you how nervous I am… I’ve been to Stonehenge before, but only with a regular ticket…
Never been to one of the solstice celebrations. We’re almost there, there’s already a little queue here… Oh what a relief! I’m at the parking lot! That really stressed me out! Because that’s exactly what I expected… Huge lines of cars approaching from all sides! I think it’s 20 past 5.
We still have a lot of time and I notice the tiredness is coming back! But I brought a cappuccino here… Yes, being a Druid is tiring! Druid: “Arise Warrior Priestess” Dear ones, the light is reborn… Kind regards from Stonehenge! I wish you all the best, lots of love
And see you next time! Bye!!

Alles Liebe , Regina
