Kagoshima has warm summers (Jun–Sep), cool winters (Dec–Mar) and year-round rain. Popular times to visit are May–Aug. The city is home to festivals like the Umbrella Burning Festival (Jul); the Summer Lantern Festival (Jul), when paper lanterns are offered at a Shinto shrine; and the Ohara Festival (Nov), featuring a parade with traditional dance performances.
