CB500X – Solo Norway trip Part 34 – Overtaken by a unicycle
Let cat this TR I’m doing 50 km an hour according to 54 km an hour according to GPS welcome folks it’s Nick here it’s day I’m not sure what day very OD to think he being pested by wasps and these horse things the bike just leaving Motel Cina ja or
Something oh here we go this is where we were oh no we weren’t there at all we ninsa well now we know and cricky hanging on to my ging anyway yesterday I had a bit of an epiphany and made the decision as to where I’m going so in reality if I look
On the map I’m sort of parallel almost with folon which is where I get the uh Euro tunnel Cal for so there isn’t a great deal of North in it and I could could have gone North could go up to Gans or something like that but actually I’m feeling Homeward Bound
Now and so I’m just going to head West I’m trying to keep off these main drags as much as possible I used a combination of Google Maps and my garming and such like to try and figure a route to Dunkirk and then when I get to Dunkirk I’ll
Head West a little bit further to p through the Euro tunnel but still probably it’s about 1,400 1500 km to Dunkirk maybe not quite so many depending on how many Mis rots I do and then from there it’s a huge amount to anyway that’s the plan so I’m still
Not treating it as home would on my way home it’s just homward bound and I still can’t go to groups of these speed limits seem to be ignored by some complet Cricket I would suggest you get off that GPS device whil we’re doing 50 rather than fast go go now
Go probably your last chance back to the road it’s a bit of an overcast stay today the hotel I stayed out last night anyway was 125 Lotty which I think was about £24 but they included breakfast so 125 Lotty the night before the campsite I was at if I’d gone for
Electricity uh cuz they sort of charge for oh how many people are you oh you have a tent oh you have a motorcycle oh and it sort of all Ls up it would have been 90 slotty before that after you have to make your own bed you have to build your own
Home and cook breakfast riding through some of the smaller roads heading west it really feels humid today I’m looking ahead over there looks quite Gray oh yes the town is sick off and then the battery expired and the next Fire Point is stri words today that effect as I said
I’m just using these as rooting points to try and keep me off the main drags seems to be working it’s a lot slower but then I’m in no hurry so it doesn’t really matter just C this ch I’m doing 50 km an hour according to 54 km an hour according to
GPS I don’t know what he was doing there to catch up but that’s an amazing thing look at it oh maybe that’s the next thing uh I don’t know where I put the T this is our VI Point St well here’s a couple of vehicles you really wouldn’t want to be behind the
Size of that found a Bend not been many the fuel ligh has just come on oh it’s not fuel light it’s little blinking thing isn’t very bright and I think we’ve probably done about 450 km on this tank but it’s an average you was saying about 2.9 ne’s petrol station in 5 km
So stop at that one this petrol station hopefully they got some food cuz it’s gone lunchtime and I’m quite hungry LPG is really popular here the number of cars I’ve seen filling up with LPG anyway that fill up the bike and me I hope well it took 14 L at 457
Km okay looks like there’s a man who’s meant to fill your tank for you but it was nowhere to be seen when I pulled in so job done now well that’s an interesting thing what is it Gate House don’t quite know what it is and then just to the right over
There OD little Tower stood on its own I’m tank up there on what looks like a battleship most peculiar not sure what liquid this chap is carrying but whatever it is is dripping out the tap at the bottom there badly I think these towers are the little power not power stations what they
Called I think of the word SE a few now the gar has taken us off the main drag which is quite nice and onto a rather nice little road I’ve seen YouTube videos where people of ride through these little Villages and Grave somebody waves back or smile
Jo think you must be Dy with my face cuz I just get grumpy looking responses typically unless it’s kids and then they just want you to rev the engine but of course this hasn’t got a super exhaust on it or high Revenue bike so I look more stalks there’s a complete look though
Of disgruntled dismay should be going through that Village I don’t know whether I there a smiley way some through my Village another road Clos you just by way of a change sort of brought me around here so it’s not too bad I think cuz I wouldn’t have seen
These and I don’t know where I’m going I think I need to head back that way quite an old looking building isn’t it checked into a hotel for tonight again find it difficult to find camping sites I’m not really on a touristy type of Route no entry that I’ll take it there
Then let’s just pull in here for now anyway today generally traveling west we traveled 310 kilometers and uh nothing really much to report today just sort of routing along town by town and stopped a couple of times had an ice cream at one place had a pizza chabata pizza in another place and
Uh go and see what this hotel’s like I think this one’s about 33 for the night but that doesn’t include breakfast but then we are traveling west now and things are getting more expensive anyway well that leavs me to do you say bye for now a
This is Part 34 of my trip continuing the journey still riding through Poland, but made the decision to start heading home which meant continuing West towards Dunkirk then onto Calais for the eurotunnel, but it was still 1400 -1500 KMs so a few days yet allowing for stops etc. Overall, a pretty uneventful day apart from being overtaken (actually undertaken) by a chap on a Unicycle while I was travelling at 54 KMH, a first for me! The day saw me travel 310 KMs and staying overnight at the town of Zary in yet another hotel as campsites were conspicuous by their absence.
The whole journey took me through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and into Norway right the way up to Nordkapp, the furthest point you can travel by motorcycle or car in mainland Europe and then back through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France over a 7 week period late May – mid July 2023
I am back in the UK now, but please do add your comments and I’ll get back to you.
Choice of background music? I use the library provided by my editing software Cyberlink PowerDirector which is meant to copyright approved, but it is being challenged by the copyright owner, so my choice of music, which was always a bit limited is even more so now. Ho hum!
Hoping you can “Like” the video, as this does help the channel.

Really enjoying your trip around Europe! Keep up the good work Nick! Greetings from Denmark
I appreciate the effort you put into making these videos.
What an epic journey Nick!
👍
Cannot be many episodes left in this trip. What an adventure and you have done so well being on the road for so long 👍
Just a thought about your GPS glitches… Russia has been conducting electronic warfare from around that region for sometime now. I've also noticed other YouTubers commenting on their GPS failing. Great vids tho'…!!!
I've never been to Poland but it looks to be a tidy, well maintained country. I had imagined it to be something like Bulgaria but it looks to be a lot more affluent.
Hi Nick,
Poland looks pretty upmarket, I didn’t see a lot of litter and the majority of those roads looked in good condition.
How were you finding and booking those hotels ?
Did the owners accept card or did they insist on cash ? And did you unload all your luggage overnight or was it safe enough to leave the bike loaded up ?
Regards warren
Another enjoyable video Nick. Seeing the small towns and cities along the secondary roads gives one a better sense of the people and the localities. As far as riding a unicycle, while it looks like it would be an adrenaline rush, I can’t help but wonder what you hold on to when you have to do a quick stop. Looking forward to seeing what the next episode brings. Cheers, Jim
This series is the only one on youtube that I look forward to. I find the calm riding very therapeutic!
Always a good idea to give a greeting with a smile……..Spike Milligan certainly encouraged such a gesture of goodwill in his 'Smile' poem! Blimey, never seen such a serious uni-cyclist – he was flying! : )
Not sure when I started watching but somewhere near the beginning. Been a lovely winter activity to vicariously ride this route. Thanks for posting and I look forward to watching the rest of the series and soon will be riding again myself as the weather improves.
Hi Nick
Still following and more questions for you 😊
Do you listen to music and or directions via your headset?
Nice job. Enjoy watching your videos on here. How often do you lube your chain?
Also how crazy was that unicycle thing, looks really dangerous to me especially if he had to stop suddenly. Safe trip to the next hotel or camping opportunity.
I am watching your journey with curiosity. It is very interesting because it proves that you do not need to have a strong motorcycle for such a trip, and the CB500X is perfect for this purpose. It's a pity that you avoid the big cities, there's probably something interesting to see there. Greetings from Wrocław, Poland.
At 11:45 tover on the right. Is it a electrical cabin? At least in Belgium it would be one. Many of these old cabins are now classified heritage. Nice bike, nice video. The overlying text with additional information is also nice.
Lovely vlog was wondering do you spray the chain or use an auto oiler
