DORDOGNE, FRANCE TRAVELOGUE: Beautiful river Dordogne, towns & villages, with full commentary.
N the river dooin rises in the central Massif and flows 302 miles merging with the gon and into the North Atlantic close to Bordeaux we are based on the river at trema surrounded by delightful towns and villages in this beautiful Valley the focal point of the square is the Mary whilst opposite is the beastro de laas the current Church of St Nicola was built in the 12th century on the site of an original or 9th century [Applause] Church to the side of the church is the site of the old cloysters and Chapter House the river with glorious views is a short walk from The Village Center and on a sweeping Bend is the attractive Road Bridge Upstream is the Railway Bridge provid W in a link from Salah to
Bordeaux this is a lovely Village for our stay in the region on our first day we visit the medieval village of bayac we walk in alongside the river and start the climb to the shatow set on the rocky promary that dominates The Village below and pass spectacular views over the rooftops
Passing ochre colored Stone houses and through ancient archways the stone paved Narrow Street Meander steeply towards the chatau the Fortified chatau was built in the 12th century and during the 14th and 15th centuries was involved in countless sieges and conflicts walking beyond the chatau The far-reaching View demonstrates the Strategic importance of its
Position descending back through the village is considerably easier once a busy port with small cargo barges transporting goods to Bordeaux this is now a tranquil scene with passing canoes and tourist boats today we are visiting the Fortified town of Dum and enter through the main gate the
Port detour on the Eastern side of the town at the corner of the plaster laal stands a 17th century Church of nraam De assumption in the Cent of the square is the covered Market with an entrance to the caves beneath nearby is the Mary and 15th century Governor’s
House from the square we find the PATH along the ramp Parts leading to an amazing Viewpoint over the river this fortified medieval Town stands on a cliff nearly 500 ft above the river dooin and the surrounding Countryside strolling through Public Gardens we discover the Mander D returning through the plast laal we
Take Grand Ru passing colorful shops on route to the plasta road in the Square are two Medieval houses dated 1282 and the one with arched Windows was Philip III’s mint house leaving the labir we make for the ramp parts and the port de laa we walk west around the walls with a
Distant view at the Windmill and finish this visit at the pad delbo the third ancient Gateway at Castle no the chatau towers over the river Doo we climb the Steep cobbled path through the village it is very quiet despite being a j PIR a day when the French people visit their Heritage

Trips we cross the river to explore the village taking the narrow steep pathway we pass the manir dard with the trite Fort above returning to the riverbank lined with a row of sound colored houses we leave larck gajak after an interesting visit on the journey back to trema we stopped briefly at
Sorak a location familiar to us from a previous visit to the [Applause] region kadua is one of the small towns and Villages south of the doo which We are touring today strolling into this Village of golden colored Stone buildings we pass the Abbey and reach the square with the
15th century H which is unusually supported on Stone pillars rather than the traditional wood Part of the Abbey building has been restored and is now the youth hostel The Abbey was founded in 11:15 and work is taking place to restore the Beautiful cloysters the ABY is on the pilgrim route to compostella we pass the unusual Bell Tower and portals of svi’s church on our way to
Montazer we enter through an original Stone Gateway into rusen jaac in this 13th century fortified Town plaster cornia is entered through further Stone archways the square is surrounded by 23 beautiful stone houses each with an open arcaded ground floor providing trading whatever the weather at one end of the square stands a 13th
Century wooden H and its ancient stone platform with measuring bins that were used in the medieval market for selling corn wheat barley and chestnuts the side streets around the square are equally interesting and we finish our visit passing the Church of St Dominique before leaving along R notra Dam bont is another based or fortified town founded in 1272 by Edward I of England the square is surrounded by original buildings above arcaded passages after a glance at the Chateau Dean we arrive at the paper mill mulana papier deik in song built in the 15th century this was the
First paper mill in the region it is powered by the water of the river cous a tributary of the doo at the Confluence of the rivers Doo and vzer stands a small all fortified Village of lul from the Mary the deep cobbled path leads through this medieval village
At the top is the 14th century Church of Santa Catarina of Alexandria the palet desala The Bishop’s Palace built in 1860 welcomes us to the brilliant medieval village of eiac in the plaster chatau is lon DEA the house of tithes where tax due to the church was collected the 15th century provest house
Has an unusual stone dovecot this circular settlement dates from Roman bars in the 4th Century this 13th century house had a cold room on the ground floor and a staircase leading to the shop above it is in the r suzan Tessier nicknamed rud deasis because Susan had a crooked back
