BULGARIA – ARRIVAL IN SOFIA
Well good morning travel Don we’re off to Bulgaria all righty fellow trodon welcome back to event of traveling Dawn and today we are on our way to Bulgaria we are leaving thesaloniki unfortunately we are finally leaving Greece great five weeks but it’s time to move on and I am excited about this trip to Bulgaria so
Anyway we are at the falan Niki bus station and this is the most direct way to get public transportation wise to Sophia Bulgaria it’s actually a really nice station it’s got a pretty good Cafe um but you’re going to go to platform 16 uh window and that is where you can
Get all of kind of like the international buses and stuff but like our bus leaves at 8:15 for some reason they don’t open up until 7:45 the ticket office uh for that part side so we are here in the cafe and we’re going to get ourselves a little little little bite to
Eat or should I say a big bite e that is a big pastry and it is supposed to be stuffed with cold cuts and guda so let’s give it a big old crunchy try oh very nice flaky but well put together that’s some good flavor so oh
Yeah now we just wait for uh our ticket office to open so I can get my ticket to Sophia Bulgary all right so we have made it onto the bus and we’re off to Sophia in just a few minutes it is €23 one way from falan to Sophia by bus so not too bad not too bad particularly giving it’s like a five five and a half hour uh bus
Ride so got a bit of a a grumpy bus driver it’s like I was just trying to get a couple of shots from outside the window he was like no no no no I was like okay so I’m moved to the back a little bit so out of the way anyway enjoy the
Ride [Applause] All right so we just made it into Bulgaria and uh We’re stopped for a little bit you I think you get about about a half an hour to uh go into what is called the ESS stores or the helenic stores so they discount stores I think they’re actually uh dutyfree and then of
Course finally got my Bulgaria stamp so added to the book I think I’m now up at this will be country 27 I think have to double check on that but yeah so we’re in Bulgaria uh you can take a stop get go to the bathroom get a quick bite to eat if you
Need to uh of course remember that for for some weird reason on this particular bus there’s signs that say no eating allowed even though they’ve got these really nice you know setups where you can put food and drink in front of you and then I also did see the uh bus
Driver uh get something to eat as well before he got back on the bus so I’m thinking he just had a really bad incident with guest on the bus and he didn’t want he doesn’t want to clean it up anymore so like I said he’s a little
Grumpy but uh we’re in Bulgaria so we get back on the road and I’ll see you guys in Sopia Oh look we have Snow all right so we have officially made it to Sophia Bulgaria and it’s now time to figure out how to get to my Airbnb all right so first thing off the bus station could not find an ATM and went down to the metro station and realized that their Metro station at Le from there only takes cash does not take card in any way shape or form so tip number one when you’re arriving in
Sophia uh so we are now hoofing it uh since I don’t have cash for for any kind of thing and I don’t want to go wandering around for an ATM for about 25 minutes since it’s only about a half hour walk from the bus station to my
Airbnb in downtown Sofia so we are hoofing it let’s go Okay so we have now gotten to the Airbnb let me give you a quick tour and also if you stay here I’ll leave the link in the description for the Airbnb it’s a little tricky when they give you like they give you all the instructions of how to get
There but even still when you kind of get up to this this top floor cuz we’re at the to almost like the top floor of the building you come through this door and you look at this and you’re like wait a second did I get the wrong
Room no there’s a second door that you come in which I was like oh that’s fascinating so anyway yeah nice uh is that thing to get your shoe off and ping pong paddles I don’t see any ping-pong balls I don’t even know what that’s used for
Now H little freaky anyway so we got the restroom so the bathroom is probably the smaller of ands the shower is literally at the bathroom so that’s going to be interesting it’ll be my first time doing something like that otherwise though the main part of the spot is actually really
Really nice like I said this is like a loft uh loft apartment so you got some decent views of the city from here and of course full- on kitchen set got a washer a whole laundry setup there for you nice couch basically the living room
Oh hello hello hang on hang on a top hat and it fits me why hello there oh I might actually bow this and go out with it so wow that’s kind of fun okay anyway sorry I got distracted and then of course the bed here nice comfy cozy so this is
Definitely a bigger spot than the Thal Andi place um in in total like the bathroom is a little bit smaller uh the bed is probably about it’s a little bit smaller bed uh so again this place is probably perfect for a Solo Traveler maybe a couple cuz you do have some room
Here to expand out uh on the at least within the living room so the other place at thessal was it was all just one unit and it’s very tight this a little bit more room outside of the bathroom and the uh the bedroom but nice I like
It so anyway I’m going to get myself settled up here and then we’ll go out into Sophia and see if we can’t find some lunch I’m hungry okay so now that we’re all settled in we’ve come out and literally across the street from the place that I’m staying at is a place
Called kamata or kamita I think it’s the first way that I got it right I think Kam the first part of that basically means like fireplace uh like that’s the name of that so and it’s kind of like a nice little it’s almost like a Taverna
But a Bulgarian style TNA very nice kind of in a back alley really nice little looking spot uh so we got a couple of things coming out uh that we’re going to have uh and then eventually we’re going to go over to the Christmas Market to
Finish off but yeah uh first off before we get the food I got what is called an Iran and this is like a supposedly a yogurt a Bulgarian yogurt drink so we’re going to try this real quick oh that’s tart who that opens up your eyes that is
Like actual just like yogurt yogurt like it’s it’s not sweet at all it’s good like if you like you Greek yogurt um or just non-sweet yogurt in general that’s good it’s just I was not expecting that I was expecting it to be a little sweeter or something like that wow it’s
Probably very very healthy for you so but that packed a punch Yeah it’s easier when you’re um expecting it but that first drink was hello okay so lunch has arrived and I’ve got a couple of different things going on you have of course the first is called a butic uh it’s basically it’s a red pepper that’s supposed to be stuffed
With feta cheese and egg little bit of herbs it looks like in there as well as you can see inside and it’s uh looks like they battered it and just had I’m guessing a little little bit of a bake on it so but yeah red peppers with feta
Cheese and egg it’s called bodc Peppers we’ll try this real quick oh oh that’s nice that’s salus of the fet cheese with is the egg and just a little bit of sweetness from and a little bit of heat too from that red pepper that is really good that
Is really really good the second dish is called parena parena I believe is a traditional Bulgarian looks like a kind of like a thin style of like almost like a flatbread or something like that um with like uh Bulgarian spices and herbs on baked into it so we’re going to go
Ahead and try that real quick just yeah very very thin but smells good try that real quick oo that’s really nice M I like the flavor of that and it’s got a tin of bit of a crunch on certain parts and then other parts of it like
The back part is a little bit more soft it has that kind of like Sandy texture to it with the um the the flour and whatnot that’s all on there that’s fantastic that’s really really good bread I’ll try it with a little bit of oil and some of the herbs
On top of that Oh oh yeah I Blingo bread is really nice I think it’s one of my favorite ones that I’ve had so far on this trip help beats even some of the petas shh don’t tell them don’t tell the Greeks that’s so I know it’s not a traditional place
But decided to start uh stop into a Starbucks here in Sophia first of was really nice Starbucks and one thing I got myself Americano put a little just a touch of sugar in there but then they also have all of these here cinnamon chocolate nutmeg I don’t
Remember them having them out for people in other Starbucks in the United States maybe I might be wrong I don’t go there on enough but yeah not too bad I just put a little just a little dash of cinnamon in there and just uh spice it
Up a little bit you know not too bad not too bad yeah I came in here to check and see if they had uh um my mom is a collector of gift cards and in the past places I’ve been to overseas they have gift cards specifically like for those cities
Kind of like how they have the mugs on these last couple trips I’ve been on I haven’t been able to find any anytime I go I don’t know if they sto uh discontinu doing that but anyway cheers all right I’m going to say right now from just the couple of hours I’ve
Been walking around experiencing this sort of like downtown part of Sophia I’m really falling in love with this city like the area around where we kind of first get off off on the Metro it’s a little little little uh grungy but once you get into the Center District it very
Much reminds me of bits of like Prague Vienna maybe a little Budapest it has that somewhat similar architecture and then you throw in like random uh you know mosques or old Turkish baths and stuff so you kind of get a mixture of east and west cultures here we’ll do a
Whole dive on uh the upcoming like two videos that I’ll be here for but this my First Impressions really liking it kind of takes me back to almost like a little bit of prag and Vienna times from a couple years ago a lot of Fun all right so we’ve made it down to the major Central Park here in Sophia and this is they’re doing the binox Mark um Christmas Market here and it’s really nice it’s a little bit bigger shop and stall wise than Thessaloniki but it’s not huge and it does it lacks the rides
Um but they do put on some kind of like fun shows I just saw one that had bunch of kids singing some uh local kids from the church so but of course when you come to a Christmas Market the big thing is all about the food and M just smell
Those trudos I mean they’re actually pretty big too this is a small size this is for like six uh Bulgarian Le or Lev I think it’s called which is about three bucks it’s like almost like 2 to one so cheers to you Guys oh yeah oh yeah that’s a good chocolate cover tra oh man that’s Delicious All righty guys so that is going to be the end of our travel day to Sophia Bulgaria I am super excited about this city we’re going to at least do two videos maybe I can squeak in a third one while we’re here in Sophia Bulgaria this city looks
Absolutely amazing I’m so excited to experience it so stay tuned for the next at least two maybe 3 weeks for the next upcoming videos as we explore Sophia we’ll definitely go back to the Christmas Market I know we were there kind of early while it was still during
The middle of the day I want to go back probably in the next video and we’ll really kind of explore it at night with all the nightlights of Christmas and stuff like that so but anyway I hope you guys enjoy the video if you have any

The next adventure from my Winter travels begins. Come with me to Bulgaria, a beautiful land with amazing food and culture!
Christmas on St Patrick's Day? Haha. Wish you had shown the pastries at Starbucks. Often they have different selections than the USA.
You get missed in Thessaloniki. The better point to start is near train station or opposite at Arda tur office.

You can always pay with your card at the metro station.
