The medieval church of Santa Maria Assunta in Positano, Italy was built in the second half of the 10h century. The history of the Church is closely linked to the Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna with Child, which is said to have arrived in Positano in the 12th century after it had been stolen from Byzantium and transported by pirates across the Mediterranean. The icon is venerated in the church until today. The church has a characteristic dome for the Amalfi Coast, Italy, made of majolica tiles.
