🇫🇷 Tour in Collonges-La-Rouge, the French Red Town of the 25 Towers | Piano Music | France

Researching for the next location to film in our way from Spain to Norway, I came across on the map with this cute small village. Looking at the pictures online I couldn’t help myself but noticing how reddish everything seemed.

Initially, I wondered whether the town was indeed so red or if the images were oversaturated So we had to come here to find out ourselves. Oh dear… What a beautiful discovery. “Collonges-la-rouge”, translated into English as Collonges-the-read, is a picturesque town in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine (France).

This village dates back to medieval times (8th century), and is famously know for its distinctive red sandstone buildings. Although these sandstones original colour were of a pale yellowish-grey, over time it acquired this signature red colour due to a combination of factors:

A specific type of red clay for pointing and joining the stones, weathering and, mainly, due to the iron oxide within the stone itself. All elements that contributed to the transformation of the buildings into the vibrant red this village is known for today.

In fact, the town is so beautiful that is a classified member of “Les plus beaux villages de France” (The most beautiful villages of France). In addition, if you ever do “El camino”, also known as “Way of St. James”, you’ll walk through its cobbled streets, medieval houses and towers.

In point of fact, Collonges is also known as “La cité aux Vingt-cinq tours”, The city with twenty-five towers. You’ll see that the town makes honour to this nickname. Besides these defensive structures, we will also see the 11th-century Saint Pierre church, adorned with numerous intricate sculptures.

If you ever plan to visit this marvellous town and you’re a foodie lover, rest assured that you’ll find some of the best delicacies of the Limousin region, such as Clafoutis or Pomme de terre sarladaises.

If, on the other hand, you are an art enthusiast, you’ll also find several art galleries and workshops showcasing local craftsmanship. It might come handy to contact their tourist office beforehand;

With a bit of luck you’ll be able to visit this location when there’s a historical reenactment or festival enchanting visitors with traditional music, dances and costumes. Can you visualise it? Locals with their best outfits performing traditional french music and dances?

My dear community, I trust this insight has given you a more complete picture of this place. Piano will be today’s soothing melody. I hope you all have a great day and I wish you a very relaxing path.

Walking around Collonges-La-Rouge, “The Red Town of the 25 towers”. Recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in France and a member of “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France” due to its outstanding beauty and its characteristic red colour, you’ll walk around this medieval town from the 8th century accompanied with a soothing piano melody and ambience sound merged together.

🙆‍♂️ ABOUT ME

My name is Martin, a Spaniard currently living in Norway. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life and people around me had certain expectations of what I should become. I might have not fulfilled them. However, after living in multiple countries including Germany, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, and Norway, I’ve realised how much I love exploring the outdoors. I decided to start a YouTube channel where I put all my heart and soul into every video. I’d love to, some day, travel back to all those countries and film the most beautiful locations I discovered back then and help this planet thrive as much as possible through the donation program. Join me on this journey and let’s discover together this world of wonders we live in.
