Tokyo Tonight: Hanami, LDP Diversity Party, Rocket Explosions and MORE!

And boom according to that I am live welcome my name is H Simon this is Tokyo tonight um yeah welcome to the show it’s uh Sunday uh 10:30 p.m. Japan Standard time I think us went through Daylight Saving this week so uh that may quick adjustment to the camera here in fact

Let’s just put that there um yeah yeah I’ve moved the camera around because uh for those of you who saw last night I was experimenting with an PRP you new sort of layout for when I do the DJ after party and uh yeah it’s pretty good

So do that it will involve moving the camera around however um so that is a thing that uh I think I figured out pretty well the live stream last night went really well actually so um yeah I’ll be doing that later on you’ll you’ll get to see that um let me put

This just so I can see the actual YouTube comments and see my name highlighted although I really don’t pay attention to this so much anymore I just go through the regular comments as they shown on the screen let’s have a look there’s already so many people in

Here it’s great to see uh boom got four likes 12 concurrent viewers uh good to see you all remember do like it is as I say always the only reason I really do this is just for the desire to be like DJ Sunny Side Up first and present good

To see you in here as always uh hope you’re doing well man um we got uh Dan h a radioactive cat wasn’t on your bingo card and actually that’s right I didn’t tweet that out out this week but that was indeed a news story a cat fell into

A um on a construction site a batch of like Chrome chromium or something I don’t know I think that makes it a superhero I think it developed superpowers from that but it ran away and police would have said if you see a cat covered in Chrome don’t try to help

It because like touching it is like super toxic so yeah definitely not on anyone’s bingo card but there you go another week in Japan December Cloud saw the poor poor rocket well all the Rockets went boom I’ll talk about that little bit but the Japan space one

Rocket yeah uh Auto auto the flight termination system activated pretty much it was barely clear of the tower uh which was a shame but it was still I don’t know that’s it’s part of part of the thrill I suppose of watching rocket launches especially of new companies is

You know there is that uh you don’t know what’s going to happen and the high probability you might see something spectacular while wanting it to succeed and same with SpaceX this week as well you know success but not really a complete success actually so yeah that’s pretty interesting Zach good to see you

Zach uh and uh for those of you who can probably see the right the first topic I’ve got YouTube Hanami next Saturday so if you want to see me in per person I am going to be there um so going to be sharing some information about that Zach

Is organizing he’s going to stand out in the freezing cold rain holding a spot for that uh he is organizing it this year as he’s done the last couple of years so many many thanks to Zach for that that is uh um I’ve done it before and it’s grueling thankless work so um

Yeah we’ll come back to that in detail in a moment but good to see in the chat there Zach uh Ki uh Shing is C es escape the Box perhaps who knows uh Michael Gillan picket good evening good evening to you good to see you in the chat Yodi

Not first but in time myy good to see you Moy indeed Y young man from Finland we got Quin ranked good to see you we want boom we want boom you’ve got boom technical difficulties I was just moving the camera around making sure I look beautiful you know uh just the important

Stuff we have booms we have booms this is where would be kind of funny if I read in the comments that I was actually having the sound off the entire time this happens sometimes sadik I’m man from Florida good to see you sadik welcome back to the chat believe in

Yourself I’m man from Canada good to see you uh Erin Erin good to see you uh you know there are more features indeed I am always having features but good to see you our moderator Ain good to see you there y the first fin in

The yeah the first uh the first fin in the chat indeed so there you go Masashi Mark good to see you Masashi Mark I do appreciate you always leave big comments after the live streams which actually makes me happy because you know it’s always nice to be able to see um you

Know see comments on the video like that are there permanently although I do like having the live chat format uh first Nordic yeah indeed I I don’t think we’ve had Sergeant Bilco the sergeant Bilco in here so I think you are winning for the N nordics anyway at least as far as I

Know um yes yes uh Dan H mentioning the recent announcement of Honda and Nissan working together for Ev development some proof to gong claims I don’t know about the gong claims specifically uh this is days after Renault and Volkswagen began working together for EES yes I like to

Joke that uh Nissan turns over a new leaf with with Eevee Accord with Honda uh Honda Accord the Nissan Leaf I don’t know I think there’s all sorts of opportunities for uh for this but I think it reflects kind of how um they’ve both uh actually has done fairly well on

EVS in some ways they they got out too early so now they’re being leap frogged but certainly Honda I think the bigger car companies still I think they’re slightly bigger than thisan certainly those are the second and third biggest car companies in Japan but yeah um uh Honda definitely behind they released

One terrible car it looked really cool but it had no range um and got a lot of uh got panned basically by the auto media as kind of an insincere effort so Honda probably desperately looking to get this around uh to something that uh yeah to figure

Out getting an EV platform that can respond with to you know promptly and that said I mean Volkswagen itself has kind of um found that its EV strategy hasn’t been that good it’s released lots of Eevee cars and they’ve been underperforming uh and from what I’ve heard there they’re actually deciding to

Go back to um you know uh emissions to to to combustion cars because those are still selling better which kind of validates what Toyota was saying but but um also interesting there was a survey on the overall sort of um what was the metric it was basically the overall

Carbon production and energy and everything in terms of an EC rating I think they’ll buy green piece of cars and it’s kind of funny um you know the Prius still beats out most it still came out number one in spite of the fact it’s hybrid it’s made in certain ways and so

On that make it less sort of environmentally taxing than the way a lot of EVS are made so um you know the with EVS there is a huge Echo cost of building which sort of theoretically you you reclaim over time provided you’re using relatively clean electricity but Toyotas are actually relatively you know

Good around that so although there’s been a lot of flack for Toyota over that um it seems like they being validated anyway so lots of stuff Happ interesting stuff happening with the cast base danh thank you for the squirrel to chase down I think it’s in the topics as well uh as

ER points out Catman Story begins indeed the cat uh covered in whatever it is um so there we go weather forecast for next Saturday uh no rain pretty good weather hopefully not too cold generally speaking I think it’s going to get cold later this week but that’s a good thing

Because hopefully it’ll go back into a warm cycle at the end of the week beautiful day today in too 21 22 degrees sunny exactly what you’d want but never actually get for a Hanami um I’m just realized something else there’s a shadow on minuts because the screen I’ve got is

In front of the camera so uh that’s a bit better anyway um so yeah yeah it should be gooda hopefully it’s good weather hopefully the weather holds it still is 6 days out but we’ll see what happens we’ got Dave dentetsu good to see him man o oi

Indeed uh Zig zigg z o o oi good to have our West Australian representative here in the chat the the Honda e was fantastic for what it was supposed to be a perfect little city car yeah yeah I don’t know apparently had a minuscule

Range but it was um you know it was a cool looking car anyway and the US EV car prodction production goes downhill well Tesla’s been doing a crazy amount on the west coast every car is a Tesla and they are fun to drive if somewhat of a onetick pony anyway we’ve

Got 20 viewers we got seven likes uh do click on the like button and let’s dive into the topics for this week thanks also to everybody who joined for the impromptu live stream last night that was a lot of fun and we’ll do another one of those after the show I’m just

Getting used to the uh equipment that I got I think I’m getting pretty proficient at it I’m getting pretty good so uh feel good about that so yeah let’s in the first topic the big topic the topic I’ve already been talking about uh Zack feel free to add comments to this

But um yes the YouTube hunam me uh post pandemic returns I did I think there were some impromptu sort of during pandemic hammies going on that Zach continue to organize but this is going to be like the first real big one where I think everyone is going to be out and

About so um first one like since 2019 I’m guessing so yeah it should be a beautiful day I will be there you get to say hello to me if you’re in Tokyo if you’re coming to Tokyo if you happen to be at Tokyo this time of year it’s like

A week earlier Norm than normal Hanami is but if you happen to time it coming here a week before Hanami you locked out because this is going to be the one week where Tokyo is going to explode into pink um they’re saying that Hanami is scheduled to start on the 21st it’s

Measured by I think a certain number of trees um U going into Blossom a certain number of blossoms being countable at yasuni Shrine yasuni Shrine actually apart from having the museum and the shrine has a huge uh Sakura sort of cherry blossom Park beside it it’s very

Close to where uh you know a lot of government offices are and where I think the weather bureau is so they decided a long time ago that that would be like the scientific standard that they had use for declaring the beginning of Hanami and Tokyo is based on the state

Of trees and I ran through yasuni actually yesterday and um yeah I was hoping there might be some early blooming trees but so far there’s nothing out there but we’ve had a couple of days of really warm weather so that’s likely to bring the buds out so it’s definitely going to

Be not full bloom but it’s going to be blooming we’re going to see going to see foul cherry blossoms next week so it’s very very well timed uh I think I saw the promo vid that uh Zach put up that you can check on his Twitter but it’s

Something correct me if I’m wrong Zach but um I think you don’t have to pay 2,000 Yen but if you show up and pay 2,000 Yen you get like a guaranteed Nomi H which I think is a very dangerous thing to promise to a bunch of foreigners but that’s what uh that said

It’s to cover his expenses for organizing and for setting the whole thing up and he’s providing that so that you go up tib it’s kind of a hassle carrying your drinks with you to the park um hell I’m yeah I I might even just donate just to support the whole

Thing even though I’m not actually drinking I’m going dry for like three more weeks at the moment I’m sort of on this health thing that’s worked out astoundingly well for me but um I’m going to be there I’m just going to be there to hang out just like I do here

Just for the booms uh so uh yeah if you want to say hello to me you want to say hello to a bunch of other people uh Victor’s not able to make it unfortunately but I think a lot of YouTubers are going to be making I saw the um respondent the responding list

There’s a lot of people who look like they are either coming or on the verge of coming so um yeah should be pretty cool so do check out the information it is uh on my Twitter you can see I’ve put the link to the event page which is on

Facebook which has all the information and uh thanks again to Zach for uh getting up early in the morning and standing out there um it’s optional helps you and your colleagues cover the expenses so there you go Zach is to uh and you know what there are expenses you

Got to get those blue mats you got to carry everything out there you do buy alcohol and food and stuff like that and uh yeah I actually appreciate that Zach is putting a lot of effort into getting this uh this all set up so yeah if you

Want to know where to find me the maps on Zach’s Facebook page and all of that so um check it out he’ll be there at 4:30 a.m. although the advertise uh come at 11: and that’s probably what I’m going to go I’m probably going to go in the

Middle of the day uh sorry Zack I won’t be there 4:30 a.m. I do appreciate the dedication though to making sure we get a spot because you got to do that with yogi park everybody’s going to be vying for for good spots there so um 3 p.m.

Big compy and a group pick okay well that’s good to know it might be a little bit long that’ll entail like 4 hours okay I might go there closer to midday but um I’ll be around there anyway so uh do come by and say hello and thanks

Again uh what else we got going and Zack feel free to add any other information there in the um uh in the chat what else we got going on here we’ve got the All Blacks Captain it’s kind of funny when new zealanders come and play rugby out anywhere outside of New Zealand

Including in Japan they’re actually ruled out of contention for being in the national team it’s kind of New Zealand doesn’t have a lot of money to be able to retain players so the only real um weapon that we have to make players stay in New Zealand and play when they’re the

Best rugby players in the world and can get millions playing in Japan or in Europe is we say that you can’t play for New Zealand if you play overseas but kind of an interesting step that the New Zealand New New Zealand rugby coach is in Japan right now and probably checking

Out how the All Blacks were many of the best players the year after the World Cup they sort of take a year off to play rugby at a little bit of an easier level where they get paid really well for it Japan’s really popular for that it’s interesting that he’s out here checking

Up on how the fellas are doing um so um I don’t know I’d really like that role to change but there we go um not really for a topic but uh the Russian elections you know just checking if you need toan or anything like that just checking did

You write did you write Putin’s name down correctly just make sure you got Putin’s spelling correct um of course a masked man with a gun coming into the voting booth that’s that’s just how democracy Works in some parts of the world good luck to them um

Damn uh hi Simon wouldn’t that mean New Zealand rugby team never has its best players not necessarily well the players themselves um it means in between World Cups most most national players really want to win a World Cup for the national team and they will return to New Zealand

And play New Zealand the year before the World Cup in order to get selected for the All Blacks and play um what’s interesting though is that if you’re like the number two player for any position we would really want you to be on the bench but if you know that like

You’re just going to be sitting there on the bench and you’re getting offered like two or three million dollar that in New Zealand if you’re playing in New Zealand you only get off at a few hundred thousand you know you go play in France or you know you can get millions

Of dollars and if you like the number two player that’s the problem those players the clubs all target the second best players in New Zealand and when that person gets snatched then they snatch the next best player which means you’ll get stuck in a position that you

You won’t have the best depth uh necessarily you won’t have the best bench um also the other thing is that when a lot of players get to where they feel like they are about to not be selected and they’re at the peak of their value they often leave New Zealand

And it’s kind of funny because there are some players like uh you know um nonu for example is playing for San Diego in America he’s like 40 years old and he still is one of the best like running backs in the US uh which says something

About the state of us rugby which I wasn’t very impressed by to be to be honest um but players like Doug howlet were playing for Monster you know like uh All Blacks Winger were playing well past what we would consider the used by date of like you know players that have

To be fast typically we go for young players he’s playing well into his late 30s and still tearing it up in the toughest league in the world so yeah I think um it it means that the year before the World Cup all the good players all the best players with a

Chance of being selected go home but there’s a lot of financial pressure on those players to sort of consider if there’s a chance that they won’t get selected not to take the risk and to collect the money and look after their families and remember it’s a contact

Sport they’ve got a limited life playing that so it’s kind of understandable as well if you you know want to support your family and think of the future and so on and in Japan they offer you jobs in companies that you play for so you know there’s a lot to consider but I’d

Say yeah the year of the World Cup we do often have the best players I should highlight the comment that I’m talking to there Michael picket Gillan picket asking that um Team USA uh needs to get it together you know what uh while that I went

Watched a few games in Seattle and I was good to watch them play the number of South African coaches and players there have them all playing what we call 10man rugby very boring rugby um like like England plays and like South Africa plays and they don’t have the power to

Match that style of game um and the fact that they were uh prevented getting to the World Cup by Chile and the way that Chile was playing rugby they’ve got a lot of french-based players and they play cool you know snazzy like attractive rugby uh seeing the way that

Chile played in the World Cup I’m kind of glad America wasn’t there to tell you the truth um I don’t know I I want everyone wants America to be successful at rugby because it’s such a huge you know potential Market just the you know the the the 100th ranked if you just got

The 100th best potential rugby players in America to play rugby it would still be the best team in the world I mean that’s just the size of of America but um yeah it’s going through a bit of a patch at the moment but I’m I’m hoping

They can get stuff back so there we go remember they started American football due to rugby being dangerous and undignified is that right well the helmets actually make it more dangerous there’s a lot of good medical data now that wearing the helmets actually gives you more concussion it causes your B you

Know your ball to your brain to bounce around inside your skull uh more and and as someone I’ve seen American football games and I’ve trained with American I’ve trained on fields where I’ve seen American football players training and thing about rugby is yeah you know you don’t like full on C sometimes

People crash into you but you know you um don’t last very long in the game if you do that but all the protection just makes people have these higher impacts which looks way more dangerous ultimately it does more damage to your insides but um yeah this year Zach which

Was a shame but um that said I we’re all hopeful the whole world wants America to be American R be to be successful so I hope it’ll turn around anyway uh full Metal Panic okay I don’t know what full Metal Panic is but I’m glad that you enjoyed I’m a big fan of

Rugby I will move on I wasn’t meaning to linger on that topic but uh yeah still good to see uh Project X Project X um I I I’ll tell anyone who listens um the NHK fee people hate paying the NHK fee but for me the NH

Project X is one of the shows NHK makes some of the best documentaries of any like TV channel in the world and I really it kills me I hope with all this AI stuff just just as one potential thing uh I hope this will make it easy

Enough that NHK will start like making its content available properly over the internet and in multiple languages and you know like if the production cost is what’s stopping them from internationalizing uh their best documentaries NHK makes some of the best documentaries in the world Japan’s isolation sometimes it means that they

Do things not as well as everywhere else in the isolation you know they’re just happy with theel that’s here in the country uh and and sometimes that isolation results in all sorts of creativity and cool stuff and there’s a lot of TV shows and formats that have been successful overseas um that that

Are based on ideas that were invented in Japan but run documentaries the the Japanese sort of nerdy oraku drill into every detail and explain it with no embellishment and just factually and just you know figure out the most compelling story and draw it out that Japanese make documentaries like they

Cook like they’ll there there are these shock in who don’t care how much they’re getting paid or how long it takes or when they’re going to punch in and punch out they just make great content and among the great NHK documentary series Project X which is a I’ve talked about

This before it’s a series on NHK the story is behind great uh inventions and Innovations to come out of Japan uh my favorite episode of all time is the Toto washlet toilet episode from how it was discovered or how it was invented to how they developed it to how they advertised

It and how they dealt with the blowback from it how it became this huge success in spite of everything the digital camera the car navigation system all of these inventions that we all sort of take for granted that and the fact that these are not invented by some sort of

MIT college grad who you know registered the patent and made a billion dollars which would be the story you know in any in any other country in the world but particularly in America it’s some jacket wearing or just on you know on on $30,000 a year it’s kind of a travesty

In a way what all these stories are you know they always they always tell this these great stories about how these things happened in Japan all all the struggle that they had to go through and some emotional sort of ending that they did it all for love and they’re going to

Keep doing it and it’s so good I mean I want to show this to my parents I want to this is like this is why Japan is cool and NHK only makes it a Japanese kills me kills me they’re they’re bringing it back um with an the first

Episode starting on April 6 on the Tokyo Sky Tree uh and they’ve got some some more episodes they talking about digital camera but they’ve already done an episode on the Casio digital camera oh in fact it’s actually on the first phone camera which was Japan uh J I think I

Had one of those so you know all all of the sort of stuff it is going to be awesome uh DJ Sunny Side Up made an NHK rap this well what do you what do you what can you do full Metal Panic was a pretty good anime okay that was an

Anime e good to see you man from Denmark they’re in the chat excellent to have you with us um but um yeah yeah yeah yeah Michael pecka points out same with boxing absolutely yeah people punch a lot harder when they have gloves over their hands uh and and

Yeah they don’t bash with the helmet but it makes you turn your body into an exosite missile um which isn’t good for your spine or your brain uh you know you get less scrapes but honestly a few bruises and scrapes uh your body telling you to not not

Bruise the inside of your head which is what happens so sounds like I should be watching this anime uh full Metal Panic if if there was a rugby episode that sounds pretty cool Atomic Tom uh I am the first person that you’ve heard speaking positively about anything

Relating to Japanese TV I don’t watch a lot of Japanese TV anymore honestly I used to watch a lot uh dramas used to be good they’re not good anymore I hate the variety shows I hate them the variety shows the TV that’s on between like 6:00

P.m. and 11: p.m sucks the news shows are okay um the late night shows as where the in ation happens like after midnight uh and that’s where Shark Tank got invented the show that American Idol was based on was invented um they were sort of you know struggling late night

Sort of creative shows but NHK its documentaries on Project X is amazing and I encourage everyone to watch it’s going to be on every Saturday night on NHK but I really want NHK desperately to look this would be the best thing for Japan’s soft power ever for people to be

Able to understand what’s in those documentaries but there we go SED sir you on your vacation not in New York you are all you are cool there in Osaka on your vacation welcome to Osaka while I’m in Tokyo but welcome to Osaka nand good to have you down there um oh my God

Question from DJ Sunny Side Up who do I think is winning Tyson or Jake Paul is that happening right now that’s one of those things it’s like watching a rocket launch where you know it’s probably going to blow up but you know you sort of want to see the explosion you don’t

Really care um I don’t know I mean it’s not quite at the level there there are fights you know that have happened where you s want both of them to lose and I’m not sure at that level um I mean Tyson’s a bad as a self admitted bad person I’ve

Seen a pretty good documentary on Tyson though where sort of going through his journey and realizations and so on including what a terrible person he is uh I’ve got no real opinion about Jake Paul I mean he seems like a douch and I’m not really interested in following

Him but you know there again he’s genuinely actually you know built up into being what he is you know good at fighting my ass of course I don’t know you know what I want Tyson to smash Jake Paul just because I I remember Tyson I watched Tyson in the 80s I was a

Teenager when Tyson was I think still the most impressive boxer of all time I mean you know watching Tyson when he was at his Peak was so impressive and we all want to see him show some of that again he’s like 50 something right now so that’s impossible I do hope he’s taking

It seriously enough that it’s not just going to you know W around the ring and get knocked out but um I don’t really care whether Jake Paul does well or not he’s young he can bounce back he can do more Tyson I don’t know I I I still want

To see Tyson do one last fight where he you know shows a knockout the way that Houston off people that and if it’s Jake Paul all the better so I guess I’m with Tyson I don’t know who’s winning but I’m hoping I’m I’m hoping that Tyson does

Well Eric Bailey the one good thing about Japanese TV are K dramas and Anime the best thing about Japanese dramas are Korean dramas when I first came to Japan in the late ‘ 90s the peak of Japanese Drama time by the way people who are into Japanese dramas will tell me this

Even even now uh that Japanese dramas reached their peak in the late 90s when I was watching most of them and at that time Korean dramas were always a slightly overacted you know emotionally crazy version of those Japanese but the kind of a ripoff of the Japanese drumers but

It was also that period in the late 90s that Korean dram starting getting good and Japanese dramas fell off and this is a similar graph to J-pop and K-pop K-pop came up a little bit later Korean dramas got better than Japanese dramas before K-pop got better than J-pop but yeah

Yeah even Japanese now pretty much admit the Korean dramas are better um and you know it’s really the whole G clim it’s the whole limited tarento you know um inbreeding pool of actors that they use in everything so um yeah what can we do uh how about

A no thank you no no I am I am not my Tyson in geez Mike Tyson isn’t that much older than me think of it I mean I think he’s younger than Victor anyway so um yeah no I don’t know I mean maybe if Tyson takes him hi D is Jake okay are

They F geez I’m now I’m curious I want to go watch I’ll go watch the the highlights which I I hope are um don’t and don’t hide hide your ears Jake so what can we see Tyson’s in great shape for this well being in great shape appearing to be in

Good shape all you have to do to be in good to appear to be in good shape is work averagely and be dehydrated however when you look in good shape the the boxes that really look super muscly with defined muscles they never do well um when you watch MMA you think about the

Russians they they never have you know chiseled ABS uh they’ve got they’ve got a layer of fat because they don’t give a crap and uh honestly being properly hydrated that’s what that is those guys always get who who look too good they always get uh they always get smashed so

That is the thing about that but there again I do I do hope that Tyson seriously is that got some speed and some power back so what can we do um yeah you like weird Indie music regardless if it’s from Japan or Korea or Taiwan or wherever indeed the Indie

Music scene has always been much stronger I think than the pop music scene here uh but there we go Tyson’s old now but fast okay but Bean bada boom yes do you remember butter bean he was also big back in the day he didn’t even

Pretend to be fast you just hit you once and you’ll be done um so uh yeah next one there been a bit lot of lot of talk going around this week in the news over the last week about the uh jalian is what I’m going to call it the

Jalian uh jet fighter fourth generation jet fighter I think America’s already at the fifth or sixth generation but these will be basically um stealthy you know fighter bomber you know planes uh that can sort of match whatever the the success of the F35 kind of equivalent Japan is in a project

Where they’re going to be manufacturing these with um with with UK and Italy uh for the next generation of Fighters so it gives something for Japanese industry to do it gives Japanese technology with UK and Italians that are manufacturing and markets and so on UK of course sells guns to everybody um you

Know uh big AR big arms trading countries um and it seems pretty cool anyway that Japan’s going to develop this interesting Japan’s always I believe currently got a flight of modified f-22s which I believe are better than the um American f-22s um soorry did I say fourth

Generation it is fifth generation so I think let me get this trade as well is this a fourth generation or a fifth generation fighter I think it’s a fourth generation fighter so the idea is it will be I suppose in that case an an F22 replacement um in fact they don’t actually

Characterize it as fourth or fifth in in the Japanese I see but um in any case uh sorry I mischaracterized the F35 thank you for correcting me but uh it’ll be an F22 it’ll be a successor a more modern successor to the F22 which by the way J

Japan’s f-22s are adapted and the Americans figured out somewhere along the line they’re actually better than the American f-22s which in dog fighting situations are actually better than the f35s it’s just the f-35s just rely on being able to destroy all their targets Over the Horizon they don’t need to be

Close or really dog fight hey Sant Bilco the second Nordic in the chat welcome uh yeah good good to have you there um so um anyway they are uh indeed Japan’s government is apparently trying to build out their defense Industries and they’re try they’re also as always

Trying to push the envelope of the section n of the Constitution that doesn’t allow J Japan to rearm or contribute weapons or do anything like that so they they’ sort of the Japanese government is enthusiastically trying to build out um mainly I think Mitsubushi heavy Industries will probably be behind

This from the Japan side um and now the debate is happening okay Japan will make these they will use them themselves for defensive purposes which is kind of questionable whether a fight of bomber is purely a defensive again they always do this in Japan by modifying the planes

To remove the fuel tanks and stuff like that to make it look more defensive but it can you just put fuel tanks on the wing and it’s offensive it can bomb targets anywhere um but yeah they they’re sort of past the the thing about making planes and now making this plane

Jointly with Italy and uh UK the debate this week has been whether the government will sign off on giving them permission to export these planes and uh the the ldp wants to create an arms industry from Japan that it can now use to help generate the economy and

Japanese expertise and to compete with countries like Korea that have a booming um arms industry at the moment South Korea is I think supplying Poland with like all of its tanks at the moment they’ve actually their industry is doing really really strongly uh so Japan trying to get into

This but uh the problem is that that comor the the Coalition partner is a pacifist Buddhist party and is like well no we don’t really think we should be exporting weapons to anyone and so uh they they they sort of were dragging their feet on signing off and allowing

Japan to be able to export these when they are made they won’t be flying apparently for like another five or six years or something like that but um yeah Coro uh and there’s an argument that they’re even demanding that Italy not be allowed to export these and so after

Some negotiation uh ldp was getting fed up and they went over to the Osaka first the ishim party which is more right-wing on foreign policy and they said hey uh do you guys want to let us export these and isim was like yeah let us join you

In the government we’ll do it we’ll take over from com and com said wait wait wait let’s not talk crazy okay uh you know so they made up some impromptu rules at the last minute that they can only sell it to countries that have um maintenance agreements um so military

Equipment maintenance agreements with Japan I.E Japanese allies they can’t just sell it to like any country they can’t allow they they can only sell it on the condition that it’s not unsold and they can’t sell it to any country in a state of War which is a little bit odd

Because like if UK would be attacked and in a war technically under K’s rules it’ be illegal for Japan to send UK extra planes that it makes with the UK it seems silly it also makes me think as well if they can’t they probably can’t

Impose the the ban on the UK and Italy from exporting as they see fit themselves so they could always probably just uh you know let that the planes be finished in the UK and that the UK exported but of course the Japanese government wants to make money from this

But anyway kind of cool that Japan is getting into this field and making some pretty cool planes by the looks of it I do hope that they are successful there the the randos look cool but it looks like kind of a low a low resolution video game at the moment so we’ll see

How that turns out but uh but there we go um but yeah great to have you in the chat of course thank you for the correction C tansi we’ve got Dan H Japan should be better with the size of their talent pool compared to South Korea you

Think so but Korea is obviously still much more adapted for a long time theyve got a huge defense industry which they need to have because they have to be ready for uh North Korea to attack them at any time so what can you do uh a 4.5 generation like the grippin

Would make sense yeah and maybe someone looked this up the the the Japanese plane but it is a is a Next Generation but I don’t think it goes as far as fifth or maybe it is fifth I’m not sure but anyway it should be able to match like basically Russian and Chinese sort

Of uh radar evading planes that reputedly are not as radar evading as they are supposed to be um Butterbean versus Johnny Knoxville was the first influencer fight although that’s almost like you expect Johnny Knoxville is there just to show off how badly he can get beaten up um kto cro

Good to Kido Croy good to have you there in the chat and uh yeah I’m on the same I I think the more that I think about it the more I think I want to see um Tyson do well uh turkey turkeys of course doing crazy stuff with the drones over there

And and to me true fifth generation is pilotless stuff and that’s what turkey is obviously showing off that they’re doing very well in Ukraine um and I think everyone appreciates how much turkeyy is doing in that part of the world anyway to help um you know hold

Back Russia anyway and and showing off what good technology they’ve got so there you go uh I’m going to try to catch up the comments a little bit um but yes anyway boom back into the topics big debate happening around that the weather this week so yeah it’s

Heading to oh wait a minute the 20th is going to be cold so Wednesday is going to be cold but in Tokyo it’s going to get down to a high of 11° but hopefully hoping that curve will Parabola back up again after that so there you go um the Sor

Open AI Sora text to video generator will be publicly available later this year those videos that they released were crazy uh I cannot wait to play with that so um yeah that’s a thing um smart glasses are the future uh sad of an article talking about smart glasses I’m

Obsessed with these but lately what’s been really getting to me is when I’m running I’m always looking down at my watch because I like to monitor my heart rate rate when I run and it’s really distracting to have to look down all the time so all I want is really just

Glasses that I can wear that at least have my running data that’s on my watch showing as a heads up display uh and a map ideally of just wear a turn two neck so I can navigate I was actually just Googling around tonight and I found these French glasses called Ingo which

Are made for running and they have a heads up display that works with the Apple watch and you can actually do exactly what I’m looking for I’m actually tempted to see if I can order these they don’t deliver to Japan that’s that’s the problem but um I’m tempted to

Maybe try to order a pair of these I I did find that you can buy them in Japan um so for a little bit extra but it might be it might be worth it so I’m tossing up at the moment if I want to

Get these but for me I mean I don’t care about having a VR full movie theater or anything like that I don’t need to have a camera I don’t want to record every you know everyone around me or anything like that I just want to be able to see

Real time like that’s the main thing when I’m out running I just don’t want to have have to look down all the time so I’m pretty pretty uh impressed with the Ingo twos that’s what I’m looking at at the moment I’m trying to see if there’s anything uh comparative to them

Do I think they will make smart contacts someday the old um uh the old black mirror smart contacts the the the key problem with smart contacts is that there’s no real way all all these um heads up display all work on using a bunch of prisms the

Light has to travel a certain distance for your eye to be able to focus on it and so there’s a lot of tricks that they use by having the cameras behind your ear so it travels a certain distance so it’s a it’s at a r it’s at a focal ratio

That your eyes can focus on and no one can really figure out how to get something so close to your eye that your eyes can actually see or focus on your eyes will always Focus past it past it so do I think that they’ll do it I mean

Anything can happen I would love that although that said I’d really prefer not to wear contacts I don’t wear glasses or contacts myself anyway I do like the idea of glasses I can take on and off um you contacts you all the other problems as well infections and you know hassles

With stuff like that so I’d be perfectly happy with lightweight glasses that I could comfortably wear for a long period of time and put on and take off as I need um but yeah yeah Ki thank you for the offer I might take you up on that oh

Got multiple offers of shipping stuff to me okay I’m tempted I’m tempted uh let let me see like I said I’m I’m researching this they do they are not perfect but they literally just show the text of stuff that I’ve been wanting to get I’m kind of excited about that it’s

Kind of like this is the future Tech that I want so I might check out the options for getting it shipped in Japan but I might otherwise I might take someone up on that so I do appreciate that I’ve also got my friend in Italy as

Well who might be able to send it to me so we’ll see how that goes um yeah about to start helium binding on the moon helium of course what’s cool about this is that it’s really really it’s a great fuel for for space travel and so on and for energy

And it’s really rare on Earth in fact I think it’s also really good for uh Fusion Energy uh for Fusion it’s like the fuel source or it’s got something to do with Fusion that it’s it’s a limitation on being able to do Fusion even if we

Get the technology right but if we can yeah have Fusion reactors on the moon powered by helium which we can get abundantly there that’s pretty cool so that is very very cool I don’t know if any of you are into watch parties watching Prime video the article is a

Bit confusing here I don’t know if Prime video is ending watch parties in Prime video you can use a an app called or a chrome plugin called teley party for that purpose but they’re saying at least that twitch is no longer going to do um watch parties which is a

Shame what else is going on this is a thing this has been going on forever but the latest data again 55% of car drivers in Japan don’t stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and I had that just the other day I was running through akasaka and um

Yeah you know yeah even when cars are driving really slowly and I always try to make eye contact with the driver just you know but the drivers aren’t even looking for pedestrians honestly it is still very much the culture and I’ve heard in some places like f or osako or

N uh it’s even worse than Tokyo from what I hear that drivers you you know you do not step out onto the street unless it’s pretty much uh safe but um but yeah yeah that is a thing uh what else have we got here we got uh universities trying to get more

Foreign students GOI mommy you’ve done it again uh there’s a sign at a park showing all the things are not allowed to do at a park um however gaji mamy added translations to it to uh make it uh to make it uh more accurate and understandable and

Um yeah once again she is an institution and gaji mamy must be protected at all costs so you can see the the sign and the the the English translation of the Japanese no testing your balls bounciness on the heads of bold white people I definitely endorse that no

Sports without legs no flying bicycles no sword no flaming sword roleplay I love this don’t get paid in Yen that’s words to live by at the moment the yen is worthless uh don’t talk about what happens here after dark uh yes yes all of that

Uh don’t be an idiot yeah that seems uh correct um so uh yeah all all of these things um to walk your dog you must have hands I don’t know I don’t know she just uh it’s a machine just pumping out this stuff uh the start of Hanami as I said earlier

March 21 so March 23 perfect timing to go do the Hanami at uh Yi Park so thanks again Zack for setting that up uh weather man is not going to stress about the weather unless he needs to fair enough uh quickly checking don’t fight Mike Tyson yeah words to live by uh that’s

That’s been My Philosophy until now uh DJ sunny side up that is that is pretty much the C the central of my belief system so I’m going to stick to that um yeah when ‘s wife a photo was released of sh ‘s wife amazing that he’ been able

To like have a whole thing seeing someone in son when he’s being so followed by the media over there no one even picked it up no one knew who his wife was and apparently the photo just said with and his new wife so the Japanese media chose to cover the photo

Of his wife originally uh oton releases photo with woman labeled as his wife uh which Peter dery responded news photo released by account labeled as reputable this has to be the worst introduction of a spouse to the media and by the media that I’ve ever seen uh

Pretty awful um speaking of awful um the the parental abduction case there’s a lot of Parental abductions every year of Japanese uh women particularly kidnapping their children back to Japan iara Japan’s Champion table tennis player who’s married to a Japanese speaking Taiwanese guy who lives in Japan with her uh apparently she

Abducted their eldest son um when uh they were living in Taiwan and had a joint custody order and she abducted the son back to Japan uh this is like three years ago now so a long time in the life of the kid and he came over to Japan and

Sued in the courts here uh to have uh to basically you know she abducted it was a parental child abduct ction from a pretty high profile Japanese celebrity um resulted in a lot of negative press and the fact that he could do the press conferences in Japanese to explain his

Side of it which a lot of foreign fathers sort of can’t um the the the result it finally ended today where they agreed on a settlement where they will have an agreed consensual joint um joint custody in Japan but uh uh remembering that there’s no enforcement system for

That in Japan like there is overseas so um and this is also being highlighted that it’s a same week that Japan’s agreed to progress an update to the family law in Japan to allow for a joint custody in the case of divorce so um yeah another reason that we have uh that

That’s needed um so there we go SM King is a horrible habit yes indeed no sprinkling rice after species marriages yes indeed project x01 project X uh season one is one of my favorite I just talked at length about how much I like Project X so good handle name there and welcome

Uh it would have been funny if she had a label on her clothes that just said wife yes indeed K has a comment for me the best thing that can happen to you if you’re famous is that the media doesn’t believe that you have family that way

They won’t be bothered by Paparazzi I kind of agree uh Dan H when can we expect your muai or boxing fight against Victor or someone else I’m not going to fight well I mean I’d happily fight Victor I’ll do a spar I I’m never going

To do a proper fight uh I like sparring it’s it’s good enough it’s really fun exercise by the way that’s another thing another Milestone after frozen shoulder four months of Rehabilitation um definitely the rehab helped I really am thankful to the sports clinic I’ve been going to that’s

Really I’ve got pretty much full motion back not quite not quite I can’t quite get my shoulder all the way up horizontal there so I can’t throw a proper like high hook but other than that I I actually tested out my for the first time in a couple of months the

Other day and um yeah yeah it’s everything’s working and it feels although I’m a bit sore from kicking things uh for the first time in a while my my body’s not really adapted uh to the and actually after going out it wasn’t this should it was all the other

Muscles I hadn’t been using that hurt um but yeah I’ve basically been uh keto I’m not coming out of it I’m not going back to having sugar but I went for about what about five or six weeks Ketone low sugar and I’ve heard that that can also

Be said to be really good for reducing inflammation and it then correspond with the timing that my shoulder got dramatically better um also I I must admit for YouTube a channel that I’ve been enjoying watching is Diary of a CEO where they give a lot of Health sort of conversations and wellness conversations

A lot of different experts sometimes contradicting each other but um yeah the the um on that channel there’s a lot of sort of conversations uh sort of around this and there was the the most recent episode guy talking about uh sort of uring you stay healthy through a long

Time in your in your life one thing that doctors often tell you when you get an injury like this my family told me is don’t go back to my don’t go back to doing you know just uh rest don’t don’t don’t do anything to get injured again

You have to take care of yourself um and and some people sort of this guy sort of pointed out the sort of trainer pointed out that doctors tell you to not do anything because they don’t want to be liable if you get injured again um but when what results in people getting into

You know assisted care is losing the ability losing the muscle strength to be able to stand up from the toilet to do a squat to stand up you know to get up and get down from the toilet and you know he sort of points out that

Even if you experience more pain as you get older the worst thing you can do from a long-term Health perspective is stop exercising and response to it um so yeah yeah I I sort of agree even if there’s some pain if I can repair it

Which it seems like I could I am going to be careful and try to learn from it but I’m going to keep being active I’m not going to get into a fight with Jake Paul well maybe I maybe if he Pro if he provokes me but um yeah I really do

Appreciate getting back and exercising and I feel like it’s even if I’m getting injuries and pain you know everyone gets injuries and pain when they do sport yes it takes longer to recover but um it gives me a good quality of life and it’s keep keeping me super healthy box TI

Your Sam says Kido he might have uh no I I I wouldn’t uh yeah I wouldn’t I wouldn’t I wouldn’t hit Sam not unless he really deserved it which is most of the time I suppose but uh yeah no no no that’ll be okay ID yes

Indeed it is s kids use their kids as part of divorce battles and this is sort of what you have to know when you’re signing up to get married and having kids and living in Japan you know all everything sort of is against you if you’re doing that

Something that uh you know if you’re making a bigger commitment than you’re making in other places so uh yeah it’s a big deal and you know um and it’s never good in any country so yeah completely agree um Michael Gillan pick it I’m a bit s

Kicking things uh yeah I am my feet is sore literally from kicking uh punching bags and kicking pads and so on but what can we do you had a lot of Sak so I’m doing keto what does beer count as keto I don’t think it does I think beer has

Sugar in it but uh I don’t know I’m not really a thing there oh is that the episode I’m now curious is that the right episode Diary of a CEO or is that the channel the Diary of a CEO channel is excellent It’s lately been my jam I

Should actually do an update of sharing channels that I’ve been watching I’ve find been finding a lot of good YouTube comment content lately speak speaking of good internet content I don’t know why but look at them they’re beautiful uh Japanese new seems to be covering like new Lambs getting born everywhere I

Suppose it’s a little bit sad that it reflects that these like giraffes or you know white rhinoceroses or something in Japan it’s not that common but yeah where there are in like different theme parks agricultural theme parks where there are lambs being born it’s like NHK news they broadcast it now of course

Where I come from you can just see Lambs you know you go outside you trip over a lamb um but of course you don’t really get to see that in Japan so I actually appreciate and while I’ve been critical of the you know of the the quality of

Lambs that have been shown in other news coverage have been like three other new two or three other news stories that I’ve seen on Lambs being born these are some good-looking Lambs here this is uh yeah I’m impressed these are these These are New Zealand uh standard Lambs here

Being raised I had lamb for dinner tonight uh and it was delicious and I encourage the production of more of these uh adorable adorable uh little fellas so I really yeah enjoy uh it’s kind of funny one thing I feel sad about going back to New Zealand now is it’s

Not quite the intensely sheep oriented country that it used to be when I was a kid everyone’s converting over to Dairy which makes me a bit sad is it’s really polluting and not as cute uh but um you know I grew up when when Japan when New

Zealand was still 3 million people and um during lambing season 150 million sheep in New Zealand uh 50 sheep to a person that was that’s what it was once in time it’s it’s now definitely definitely way way way down from that but what can we do um whoa more comments

Here we got uh Ki what can we uh uh s from kicking things oh okay Quin ranked are you training more for strength or more for flexibility uh I’m training for fun I just try to do exercise that makes me exercise without realizing that I’m exercising I listen to music I like to

Hit in time to the Rhythm or when I’m uh training with a with a coach guy I’m just a dog chasing a bull hitting the pads and Kicking the pads and when I’m sping I’m just like oh my God not the face don’t hurt me um and all of these

Things allow me to enjoyably exercise without even realizing that I’m exercising um m is good for flexibility I you I do spend about 15 minute stretching you do a lot of sort of yoga type stretches before my um hips legs and I’m quite inflexible so that’s one

Reason it’s kind of is a good hybrid in that regard at least the way that I do it with my tai guys uh kickboxing people tend to be a bit more sparten and not so the my Tha guys are more the the the the easygoing and stretching so I do it for

Fun and it’s is with running yeah I don’t really do strength training and I arguably should I know that resistance training people say is one of the best things you can do for health and I should probably do it I just get bored and I just like I I get miserable when

I’m doing weights so I look for other ways of doing things so I’d say more for endurance and flexibility perhaps Quin ranking but fun primarily I just do it because it’s fun and it’s uh relatively good for me uh C sty uh yes who knew my next lb could

Look so cute oh yeah it looks very cute and delicious uh how was you prepared it was uh lamb chops it was at an Italian restaurant near the house I S of like to take my son every now and then and here’s a pizza and I have grilled lamb

Chops and they are delicious how often do New Zealand people eat lamb 20th century New Zealand me I don’t know 21st century I used to have lamb chops as a kid you know like lamb I’d have it two or three nights a week roast lamb lamb chops hell I’d have lamb sometimes maybe

Three or four nights a week more than beef I would eat lamb more than beef and I considered beef to like be a flavorless meat um that’s sort of how I grew up I know it’s different at the moment but uh but there we

Go uh and venison by the way I also love it’s harder to get of course but you get it heaps of it in hoko uh anyway we’ve got uh 7 minutes left and I’m going to go and do a DJ set I had really a lot of

Fun with that last night so I’m going to rip through what else we’ve got here Honda and Nissan turn a new leaf with Eevee Accord I’m very proud of myself that was very very clever uh caption to Nissan and Honda cooperating on EV platforms and a good idea uh good on

Them for doing that uh sapo rules that Japan uh ban on recognizing uh samesex marriage which by the way individual uh governing areas in Japan have recognized same seex marriages but there’s an argument it should be a nationwide recognition which are separate the sauro district court in

Hokkaido or high court has ruled as unconstitutional so that put some more pressure on the government to actually just have a nationwide recognition of samesex marriage there’s no Christian like morality objection to it like there is in America there’s no real like debate around that perspective it really

Is just whether to keep Traditional Values or not which the lp you know will generally block but uh hopefully that’s going to change um Japan cabinet ok’s new foreign trainee program to promote longer stays not longer slaves um they are trying to get rid of the abuse of workers happening under that

Program and to allow them for stay to stay for longer so that’s a good thing um discrimination against naturally curly hair a lot of school regulations prescribe that hair has to be black and straight assuming that that’s the only hair that can exists and resulting in perverse outcomes like

Where the aim of the regulation is to stop kids getting perms or dying their here they are forcing foreigners to perm and dye their hair to comply with the rule aimed at stopping kids perming and dying their hairs and just because that’s the rule and not thinking about

Why the rule exists it’s stupid and it has a discriminatory outcome a lot of the time and it’s ridiculous um it’s kind of funny watching the PRC uh lambasting America over the potential ban of Tik Tok um that uh saying that you know it would be um that it’s Bandit

Logic of trying to ban a successful Chinese company from America China bans Google I’ve been to China you can’t use Facebook you can’t use Twitter you can’t use Google uh so the idea of Tik Tok getting banned outraging China yes China is absolutely right America shouldn’t be

Doing what China does to everybody else uh I almost think America should be passing laws that they shouldn’t allow you know Media or or or or or even just companies uh that that you know into America own by owned by you know companies from countries that do not

Allow American companies to operate like that would be a less hypocritical way of sort of doing it so yeah China is absolutely right but they do exactly the same thing to everyone else themselves so they have no credibility um Annual Tiger escape the white tiger enclosure

They they got a person to play and Escape white tiger in front of the white tiger watching looks very bemused there but um highlight of the Year watching the uh humans uh the the zoo staff acting like escaped animals with the uh allowing the zoo staff to try in a completely realistic and

Life-threatening way uh to try to um uh to try and uh capture the animal and there I think here we go uh grin ret I’m starting to sound like Trump well you know uh great then Trump must be getting smarter um but yeah yeah there’s a rhetorical there’s a rhetorical thing

There anyway but but Banning Tik Tok was ridiculous and I’ll point out that America only started talking about banning Tik Tok as far as my observation goes like from the week after those Tik Tok teenagers played that prank by buying all the tickets to a trump rally

And not showing up uh and the next day they started talking about banning Tik Tok and paying attention to and the Democrats have gone along with it though so yeah it’s kind of a show but there you go uh wow we haven’t even got to the rocket explosions or the the exotic

Dances so let’s get down to that oh Starship was a spectacular launch of course the the the booster they lost control and it burned up and the the Starship itself amazing that they got the Starling satellites to show it during re-entry with the plasma like uh

Fire of the around the rocket however it also showed the things spinning and rolling all over the place with the control finish getting no control and eventually the thing they they showed it half completely being destroyed and burning up um so spectacular but also kind of a failure at the same time and

Of course still progress and still I I do hope that they get it right but also a long way to go if we’re going to be launching people to the moon on these things um but still just an amazing spectacle so U pretty cool watching that big earthquake during the week that was

The thing that happened um the Japanese rocket from space one uh yeah blew up would have been the first private rocket would have been the first version of Japan Space X or New Zealand’s rocket lab blew up just above the uh launch Tower um and sort of

Started a minor forest fire nearby had a huge expensive satellite government satellite on the top of it as well which was lost but there again I guess I’m going to have to make another one um but still good to see Japan trying it this sort of thing and this uh have to come

To this apparently the ldp’s youth Division and wakayama decided to have a um uh a party to discuss and and apparently it was literally diversity apparently was like uh promoting diversity they decided to have uh women entertainers entertained because of course all the members of the ldp youth

Division they were apparently men so they had women uh basically strippers they didn’t fully strip though they were more exotic dancers wearing like bikinis but they were kind of laap dancing and people were paying tips uh with their mouths and so on um which uh if people couldn’t visualize properly fnn the news

Network showed an animation just showing how that sort of works so you know they asked in Parliament um to the prime minister is this what the ldp thinks of as a diversity and inclusion of women and the Prime Minister said no it’s not he’s having a bad week his uh approval

Ratings are falling through the floor so badly that there’s rumors that the Tokyo Governor qu might actually start running for uh there’s there’s a b elction coming up in Tokyo next month and uh the the Tokyo Governor to um term only has three more months so

There’s a rumor that qu might run for this opening seat in Tokyo and and make a bid for the Prime Minister could be super interesting so anyway those are all the topics for this week we got one minute left ain’t no party like an ldp party yes so show yourself out oh that’s

What I say basically strippers uh strippers probably not that entertaining But there again I mean for an ldp party uh who knows um so that’s all that stuff they put the they put put the party in politics yeah so you know ldp it’s like they’re literally deliberately trying to

Do as badly as possible just to see what they can do to lose support and um and there you go k possibly about to become PM of Japan so uh it’s like they’re trying to lose on purpose and people still keep voting for them it’s it’s like

Brewster’s Millions uh the story of J Japanese politics so there you go uh we’re up on time I about to switch over to the other live stream to start to to start spinning music with a bit of a new setup here as well which I tried out

Last night I’ve got a standing desk I a controller which I’ve gotten reasonably competent at using and uh no I believe that spelling was correct Atomic Tom in this particular case uh but um yeah slay Manson good to see you good to good to see you indeed

Nice to see you in the chat great seeing you thanks for taking me out for pizza in Seattle that was great and uh yeah look so uh I’ll be back here next week I’ll see at the Hanami if I if I don’t if I don’t see you before next week on

The live stream go check out the information from Zach’s Channel he just put out a video with all the information and the link uh on Twitter on my Twitter you can get the link to the Facebook page and I’ll be there so so come and

Hang out with me and yeah um the on this channel check out the other live stream that’s queued up I’m about to go and join thumbs up these strippers I’m G to go do some DJing and have some fun I’m taking requests and all of that so um

That’s right people noticing say to Sir that now that I do the DJ thing I actually end the show on time uh yep yep I do that no ldp strippers at the hanamy Zack Zack what seriously we’re giving you all 2,000 Yen like in dollar bills that’s a lot of dollar

Bills that we could be paying so see what you can do about that anyway thanks remember to like if you liked and I’ll see you on the other stream in a couple of minutes I’ll go set up so boom peace stre
