The Perfect Bolthole ⛺️ To Dodge ANOTHER Storm?
Good morning I do still need to wash my hair pretty urgently but I feel considerably better after my quickest of dips yesterday today I’m heading over to the island of leada um just in the north it becomes pretty mountainous pretty quickly as you go south uh quite like
Keonia and I’ve had enough of those 300 met descents down to beaches for the time being so um just in the north the couple of castles Causeway um take it easy today a they wanted2 to see inside Agia MAV castle and the guide book said there
Wasn’t much in there so having had a good wander at the previous Castle I skip this one I’m coming back the same way this evening so I’m just taking the opportunity to S out little sheltered camp spot it’s not very sheltered from the wind but it’ll protect me from the rain
I think and uh it’s well hidden nice View nice view for lunch and then there’s a monastery to visit afterwards feel it’s beginning to feel a bit Italian around here another hour or two in that nice cafe Seether come into a ball hole another St it’s all bolted up except and I swear it wasn’t me look
Have a couple of neighbors too I’m absolutely stoked with this the wind and the rain are going to be coming from this direction so I have a very sheltered lovely vantage point to watch the storm back on the noodles because it is cold no judgment about the wine please
It’s going to last me several days okay let’s try this wine sorry about the lighting my light has stopped working on my second power bank and if I face the beach then you can’t see my lovely face uh cheers 289 wine you know for what I paid for it that’s fine
Day 27. 25km (78175kms 7yrs)
Cattle grazed in the field behind the beach, their bells tinkling as I packed away in the sun. With only 25kms planned today there was no rush.
On the causeway that connects Lefkada with the mainland are two castles. The first, up a small hill and free to explore, offered views over towards the island. The second – on an island midway – was intact enough to still have an impressive moat, but I skipped the €2 visit to what the guidebook described as an interior in ruins.
Knowing I would return this way I scoped out a sheltered place to camp. There was yet more bad weather coming so I wanted shelter tonight. Continuing along the causeway I passed a string of windmills one of which would’ve made a lovely camp but was not on my return route. I climbed a small hill to Faneromeni monastery before returning to the rather Italian-looking Lefkada town to find a nice warm cafe as the weather turned gloomy.
Exploring back at my beach camp I discovered someone had broken into one of the boarded up alcoves producing a perfect little spot for a tent and a bike. Far more sheltered and discreet than the initial spot I had I mind, I cleared out the energy drinks cans and made myself at home.
Though the wind direction changed a tad I was still beautifully protected and could enjoy the electric storm happening outside the improvised sheet metal door.
