Paris Restaurant of the Month – March 2024 – Au Pied de Cochon

Paris! World capital of gastronomy. 125 Michelin-starred restaurants. But if you want to have a bite to eat in a typical Parisian restaurant, it’s in a brasserie, a bistro, a “bouillon”, that you have to go!

On Paris Top Tips, every month, I take you to one of those places where you can enjoy the great classics of French cuisine, for not too much money… I’ve previously shared reviews of several outstanding Parisian restaurants, … and you can access them through the link provided in the description below.

Additionally, you’ll discover more culinary experiences in my Food & Restaurants playlist. Tonight, I’m indulging in an authentically French culinary experience at the renowned “Au Pied de Cochon.” If I’m here, right in the heart of Paris, it’s because I’m eagerly awaiting the extraordinary Luminiscence Light & Sound show

… scheduled for 10:30 PM inside the nearby Saint-Eustache church. Just last week, I created a video showcasing the mesmerizing beauty of Luminiscence. If you’re curious to witness its splendor, feel free to click on the link, here, in the top right. But I understand you’re not here to watch me talk about a show.

You’re eager to learn more about the quintessentially Parisian restaurant, “Au Pied de Cochon,” and that’s exactly what I’m going to showcase, right now! By the way, “Au Pied de Cochon” literally translates to “At the pig’s trotter” in English. And yes, here you can savor the delicacy of pig’s trotter!

But rest assured, you can also relish a wide array of other delectable dishes at “Au Pied de Cochon”, … perhaps opting for slightly less adventurous options from the rich tapestry of French gastronomy! Au Pied de Cochon made history in 1947 as the pioneer establishment to introduce continuous and open night service,

… setting a precedent that would shape Parisian dining culture for years to come. Nestled in the heart of Paris, this iconic brasserie warmly welcomes patrons into its convivial ambiance, where they can delight in generous servings of traditional French cuisine. Operating seamlessly from 8 AM to 5 AM every day,

Au Pied de Cochon ensures that its doors are always open to cater to its patrons’ cravings, whether it’s for a hearty breakfast, a late-night feast, or anything in between. Come on in and experience the magic of Au Pied de Cochon! With this typical decor, you are undoubtedly in a Parisian brasserie!

You can indulge in a menu brimming with traditional French gastronomy. From the house’s signature pig’s trotters to classics like cassoulet and onion soup, you’ll find a treasure trove of flavors waiting to be savored. Of course, you’ll find snails… or foie gras. Or maybe pork’s head if you wish!

Oysters and seafood platters are also a must, always served fresh. And when it comes to desserts, you’ll find all the classics waiting for you! To kick off the meal, I’m treated to a delectable appetizer of pork rillettes from Le Mans paired perfectly with semi-salted butter sourced from the Charentes-Poitou region.

For my starter, I opted for the irresistible pork croquettes accompanied by a velvety whole-grain mustard cream—a dish that might just steal the spotlight for my entire meal! Despite dining alone, I struck up a conversation with my table neighbor.

Taking advantage of the moment, I filmed his chosen main dish: a delectable pig’s trotter. As for me, I savored one of France’s most renowned dishes: the cassoulet! It turned out to be an excellent choice, truly delicious!

For dessert, I couldn’t resist indulging in the “Au Pied de Cochon” vacherin: a delightful combination of meringue, raspberry sorbet, red fruit coulis, and luscious whipped cream. Before long, only the pig’s head candy remained… and without hesitation, I relished every bite with sheer pleasure! How much did I pay? 55,50€!

It may seem a tad pricey, but considering the excellent dinner featuring high-quality cuisine and the sheer pleasure it brought, it’s undoubtedly worth it. What more could one ask for? I hope you found this video as enjoyable to watch as it was for me to film… and eat.

  1. Wife and I are coming in May for our 35th. These videos have inspired me to try a Brasseries. We are staying in Le Marais do you have a favorite in that neighborhood?

  2. This is already on my list for my next visit and this got me more excited! I heard there is a rumor they do not have locks or light switches because they would never be used😂 Also, apparently, was a favorite of Julia Childs.

  3. This looks amazing! Based on your great video, we have just booked to go for dinner when we’re in Paris in May! The pork croquettes look amazing and I’m wanting the cute 🐷 vacherin.
