Berlin Germany in a Day – Carnival Cruise Warnemunde Port
Such a cute little Port Town we have 45 minutes to get to our train I think a little less 40 minutes 40 minutes to get to our train here in Berlin we miss this train we don’t get on the boat we’re rich and Robin and these are our midlife
Adventures living in and out of our midlife van in July 2023 we boarded a carnival cruise ship in do England to visit 10 countries and 18 ports in 33 days after a great day exploring our first Port of Copenhagen Denmark we head back to the ship and get ready for our
Next port in Germany there’s this little guy what do you think an orangutang more Guys Burgers strawberry good so good watch that skirt goodbye Copenhagen next stop is Berlin oh almost to Berlin what’s a wild M West the murder no I don’t know okay let’s go see what’s on the
Let’s go see what’s on the other side arriving to the port near Berlin on a little bit of thundery lightning rainy day but supposed to be high 82 today I’m going to push us in Rich going to push us into port and having a smoke coffee and smoke on the bat go C
Today got off the Carnival Pride and we are going to get on the train and go to Berlin will we make it back by 10:30 when the boat takes off I think welcome thank you okay Germany getting on the train on the train we are headed to the train to
Berlin cool is this the S2 is what we’re looking for we are in where rich starts with the w how many years of German did you take I had three years of German I’m sure we’ll hear about it a lot this trip so let’s see it oh yeah let’s hear it I
Guess here to right there Rich that’s how you say morning morning S2 did it say what number what track it was I think it did it’s which one do you think it is Rich number one or number two now from2 R Ro departure 8:34 caution the train is
Arriving invisible it is we’re taking the invisible train step back jump on Rob well this actually isn’t our train CU we’re going to get on the earlyer one see if we get kicked off Robin where we going going to Berlin but first rock and star I think
So instead of booking the train ride with Carnival for a cost of $580 for the two of us we booked our own train ahead of time into Berlin from the port for €23 and then bought a day pass for the subway once in Berlin saving us
$400 on the train way to go to Berlin some people waited till the day of to book their train and the cost was €90 per person to get into Berlin and the train ride back at the time that we were coming back was sold out
We made it to Berlin made it to Berlin on the train and now we are going to get on the Underground the U shoot over to our first stop first stop and that’s probably going to be where the wall is right maybe we’ll see or another historical spot where people
Crossed the border oh yes we are in the Berlin underground and we chose to buy a day ticket so we went to English and we we wanted the ab ticket so we did a 24-hour ticket and then we did several tickets and we did two and then we bought the
Tickets and then you can use Apple pay it looks like American Express on there and we just tap the credit card and then when you’re done when we get your ticket got to make sure you come over here and validate it yes very important very important to validate
Your ticket or it’s $60 or 60 fine if you don’t validate and you don’t scan your ticket it’s the honor System but they randomly check like in Copenhagen yeah so you see the a the B and the C and we are on the edge of the a
B so we should be good and we are going to I wonder where it is on the map watch it be outside so we came from up to the top right we’re not sure it is 1250 and we are in Berlin headed to our first site and we got the
Boat at maybe 8 yes which was an hour and a half before our train but we took took we had to take a little train to the bigger train and so and then a Subway to here yeah and we knew we were going to have an hour plus between the
Two trains but we’re glad we did that earlier one because it took us a while to figure out where we were going Subway and then we met a nice gentleman Stefan who walked us to our gate yes it called the gate uh track he walked us to our track and
Uh he was headed to montere in California monter just retired last week so we had a conversation with him which was nice so which was really nice here we are at how do you call it how do you say it rich beraru okay you
I’m on one side of the wall and I’m on the other am I on the east side or west side you’re on the west side I’m on the west side this path follows one of the many tunnels in this area over the 28 years that the border
Wall was the Border was closed due to the wall there was 70 Escape tunnels tunnels built how many people died from a lot yeah around 300 people managed to escape the tunnels only 300 Only 300 with 70 tunnels yes that means probably every time one got built it probably got
Sealed closed yeah capture the people yeah shut it down okay let’s see if we can find the memorial there’s a tower so what this is all probably recreated huh you think probably a recreation currently on the east side of the wall there’s two wall yeah there’s two
Walls so that’s like no man’s land yeah yeah no man’s land’s in the middle there’s actually two some areas Berlin two walls ofl I think some some yeah but this is the easiest area to escape yes this was known to be the easiest to be able to get from one uh
Part because of the tunnels because the people watching over probably both probably it looked like a lot of the walls were not that tall uhhuh uh and so and then there probably was yeah Le guards and then there is the west side of the wall continuing on
I’m assuming these are all people that passed away trying to escape yeah and we’re looking for I don’t know yet in Berlin we booked another free walking tour rich found a walking tour with Sandy man’s Sandy man’s we had a free walking tour and only had to pay our
Guide a tip at the end he took us around some of the historic sites our free walking tour started at brandenburg’s gate in the heart of Berlin to each of the stones there was 2700 and 11 Stones he wanted more stones but they said 4,000 but there’s not enough space
He so it has to be 271 come to find really the true reason why they limited to 2711 is that’s how many pages were in the original Jewish Bible and so there’s a a significant value to that but each of the stones if you look at them from
From from the heights they all look the same but when you’re down on the ground you look through there’s all different sizes and they all some of them are like four times larger than the other ones but they’re all exactly the same size the same shape same uh weight so the
Reason why they staggered them around is because what they did was there’s 2711 communities that were affected by the Holocaust and so the communities that were affected the most are the mo the the shorter ones that were buried more because they have more weight on them that make them sink
Into the uh the swamp land and but the other ones didn’t may have as many people affected by it so that’s that’s what the the value of that is this is why they buil B right here we are now standing 15 m above the top ceiling of the bunker which is is intact
Now the last video of ad pitler was taken right here on April 20 his birthday was 56 and he came outside the bunker to to shake the hand with the soldiers with his young soldiers so he took a a few minutes after the his body G they WRA their bodies in blanket talk
Him with gasoline and bur them outside so they were part of the Communist but then the Russian government who took over this part of Berlin tried to re uh portray image that this is communism you know there’s everybody’s happy and everything but these people are like no
You’re trying to fake us out by saying that this is the true life we we’re we’re representing the true life so there was like think 400 people that were protesting here police came out and shot them all dead right in front of this picture of you know happy commun
I’m not quite sure you just told me what it was called but I got the Dunkle I got the Dunkle with half moth um it’s a strong beer he says I have the sweet mustard for the Bavarian sausages yes thank you white Bo sausages in water
Would you love to have with the pretzel or oh with the bread with the uh prz with the pretzel yeah extra yes with the pretzel with the pretzel pretz Robin we’re in Berlin we just got done walking our butts off we got maybe 45 minutes
Before where was I I got this is your uh this is my duncle dun this is my duncle okay not to be confused with my uncle mhm so we’re going to get some Bavarian sausag uh and it’s also going to come with a frally baked pretzel and then
We’re also going to get the brown coarse meatloaf and it comes with fried egg and potato salad and I got the look at that oh look at that and mustard is that good I didn’t open it he said there’s your sweet mustard you like your
Bread now I didn’t hear that part I know you know I know so Rob so when in when in Germany when in Berlin we have to get beer of course so I had to twist my arm and get a beer so we got I got the Dunkle and half Moss um
Still not sure what that really means he was trying to describe some of these other ones where it’s it’s half beer half foam don’t want that half beer half uh Sprite and then half beer half lemonade so we’ll see what happens here so it’s a
5.6 I haven’t had it yet he won’t let me stop talking that’s a good beer that is a good beer what he got in front of you I have no idea some white sausage and then we have got some big Chopsticks there then we have the MEF with egg and potatoes
That’s crazy look at this we got to hurry up and eat robin yes what do you got there potato salad Meat Loaf which is ham or spam I think it’s spam and fried egg try you don’t have to finish it yes I do you don’t have to finish it I have to
We have 45 minutes to get to our train I think a little less 40 minutes 40 minutes to get to our train here in Berlin we missed this train we don’t get on the boat so if we don’t get on the boat then then we miss the C day so we are going
To first take a Subway and then Subway to our main train station yeah central train station then the train station then get us to rock something yeah and then we have one more train to get back to the uh Cruise station so after a long day very long I don’t know about
Long cuz we only got here like at 12:30 and now it’s 5:00 and we’re getting ready to leave but we saw a lot in the short amount of time we were here but it’s going to take us another 3 hours to get back to the boat we have to be back
By 10:30 it’s 5: I think we can do it think we at plenty of time but I don’t think there’s another train after our train so we can’t miss our train we cannot miss the big train and where are we at Robin what’s the name of the stationin L there you go good
Job made it to the Central Station in Berlin came off the find we made it on the U now we got to go find the number seven track track and what uh train number are we look train is IC 2174 at 538 and it’s 5502 we get Robin let’s go get you have
Time for gelato rich I think we have time for another beer oh then I think we go down over here did you want any more food no but you didn’t ask about the other thing no so Robin the DB is what I’m talking about Robin right here Robin one minute
Please I wanted to see if they had the arrivals okay so sevens to the right there’s a train already there it could have already arrived but that can’t be it’s not going to sit for half hour it did last time before we left okay so let’s see what it
Says on it we made it to the train woo that was close I think we’ll make it back to port on time just in time to get a beer before we jump on the ship we made it on the last little train from the main train station to the port
We will be on with like 2 and 1/2 hours of spare Ridge we could have spent another hour and a half at least in Berlin except for we I think that last train was a little cutting it a little close so time to go get some dinner and then
Tomorrow is another SE day and then we’ll be in Estonia so come on and join us in Estonia FR now where are we are Warman Moon we’re back at the port and looks like a cute little town we got a couple hours so as long as
We’re not in the street we might as well walk around a little bit huh I see a canal a German canal in a fish working need more light to see this beautiful city it’s getting dark what time is it 8 8:34 got a little memorial statue going on
Here such a cute little Port Town surprise I was thought it’ be like just nothing a couple little shops but it was actually pretty cool yeah really beautiful house cute architecture cute streets restaurants Church all that detail now that’s the sand castle now mermaid now back to the
Boat join us next time as we spend a day at Sea and visit Talon Estonia
In July 2023 we took a cruise in Europe for 33 days out of Dover England. Our first cruise was a 12 Day Baltic Cruise. The 2nd port stop was Warnemunde Germany where we took the train into Berlin where we visited the Berlin Wall Memorial and took a Free Walking Tour once again.
A cruise excursion from Warnemunde to Berlin via train offered by Carnival Cruises would have cost us $580 for 2 people. We pre-booked our train tickets online and then purchased a day metro pass to explore the city. After having some food and drinks before leaving Berlin we ended up saving $400 over the price of a Carnival Excruiseion.
Join us as we take you on a whirlwind tour of Berlin, visiting history locations throughout the city. Before returning to our cruise ship we explored the cute port town of Warnemunde.
