Senso-ji Temple

Located in Asakusa the Senso-ji temple is Tokyo’s oldest, most colourful and popular Buddhist temple.
Arriving at this temple complex you’ll see the Kaminarimon gate with it’s red chochin lantern and two statues. An over 200 meter long shopping street called Nakamise-dori will take you to the second gate the Hozomon. At this shopping street you can find typical Japanese souvenirs and traditional local snacks.
The Hozomon gate is a two story gate that houses many of the Senso-ji’s treasures in it’s second story. In the first story you can see tree lanterns, two large sandals and two guardian statues.
The Hozomon will lead you to the main temple hall, a five story Pagoda and several smaller temples. In this area there are many o-mikuji stalls. For 100 Yen visitors may consult the oracle to get answers to their questions.
For some quiet there is also a contemplative garden.
