CRUISE NEWS! NCL Cancels Cruises Worldwide | Princess Eclipse Cruise Preview | Ship Due in Baltimore

Today we are going to go through some Cru news headlines that I think are important we are also going to talk about a lot of itinerary cancellations that we just received news on today we’re going to talk about how things are going right now today on the Discovery

Princess and how everything is shaping up for the Eclipse cruise which is going to sail the day after tomorrow and then finally I’ve got another segment for you in the series that I am doing about cruises that I think you should think twice about booking and if you do book

Them go in with your eyes wide open so let’s go ahead and get Started hi there this is Allison with let’s go travel tips today is Monday it is April 1st of 2024 and it is so nice to be here with you today so let’s start at the very top as if you have been here with me I have been going over updates

About how things are going there in the Port of Baltimore ever since that container ship hit the bridge in the harbor we’ve had several announcements that Carnival Pride is what we’re going to talk about today she is due to set saale on April 7th and it is a

Repositioning cruise to bring her from Tampa up to Baltimore where she is due to be homeported clearing until 2026 and so the interesting thing is Carnival has announced that they are actually planning to have that ship be able to dock in Baltimore on April 21st and then continue with their plans to be

Home ported there they do have the uh backup plan that if they are not able to do that she will go to Norfolk instead of to Baltimore but I am really excited that there is hope that they are going to be able to dock there in Baltimore I

Think that is a glimmer of hope that things will get a little bit back to normal as they uh try to do everything that needs to be done there as I’ve mentioned before Baltimore is a huge commercial shipping Port here in the United States so there are a lot of

Ramifications to do with that Port being closed and not being able to have ships come and go as scheduled so it’ll be really exciting to keep our eye on the Carnival Pride and see if she is able to actually dock there on April 21st so I

Will keep you all up to date and let me know if any of you happen to be booked on the Carnival Pride um whether it’s on this sailing or another sailing out of Baltimore now um the next update I’ve just got for was kind of a quick one um

I saw at the end of last week that there was an announcement that there’s a river boat a Bulgarian riverbat that um banged into the um hit the wall there of the danu river um close to one of the Austrian ports in the process of hitting

That they were um they did sustain a little bit of damage but they were able to carry on and keep sailing that river boat but 11 people sustained injuries that required them to go to the hospital and six more ass suain sustained injuries that did not require hospitalization so the reason that I

Wanted to go over this headline is I I’m seeing in a lot more news outlets now and I just wanted to let you know that this does not happen really often I know that we are all concerned and would really like this to never happen but

When you go on your very first River Cruise as I noticed when we went last year there are so many river boats there are a lot of river boats that sail you will see some on the river while you’re on the river but also when you come in

And you are ready to dock they can be several boats um deep lined up there at the dock and then not just um one row but um up and down the banks there wher wherever it is there a place that the river boats will dock so there are a lot

Of river boats they sail all the time um clearly a lot of more of them sail um in the summertime they start very early spring and they usually you know go through that Christmas Market season but there are a lot of river boats out there so as you see this headline realize that

This is not a common occurrence and it sounds like everyone who is hospitalized from the reports that I have read um none of these were life-threatening injuries and so hopefully everyone will be okay and like I said they were able to continue sailing that ship now this

Is big news here actually and it’s really interesting uh Norwegian has announced that they are cancelling several several cruises in 2025 so let me tell you what those cancellations are and some things to think about first of all these ceilings really cover quite a wide um variety of places around the

World the cancellation in C include cruises in both Western and Eastern Mediterranean the Caribbean the Adriatic the Middle East the Red Sea Asia and Northern Europe so it’s pretty much um a lot of the places where cruises s uh cruise ships sail these days and as you

Think about that clearly some of of these are sailings that are being impacted by geopolitical issues as they call it um so that they are not able to call in the ports the Norwegian Viva was supposed to set sail from H Israel on September 29th of 2025 the reason that I

Point that out is we have a group cruise on the celebrity silhouette it’s 10 days it’s sailing on October 11th of this year but that that cruise was due to go to Israel for 3 days and to Egypt for 2 days and um they’ve changed the itinerary but we’re still going we’re

Still going to have a wonderful time but as you think about it you know there’s a lot of uncertainty as to when and if the whole thing about cruises being able to return to go to Israel again sail from Israel as well as visit Israel there and

The reason that I’m talking about this very specific cruise is because there is also a cruise on princess that goes in May of 2025 that is due to go to Israel for a couple of days I have been keeping my eye on it and with this cancellation

Of the Norwegian Viva I am still just going to keep my eye on that cruise I’ve been thinking about making it a group cruise but if um things don’t rapidly change they are not going to be able to go there and I know that we’ve got a lot

Can happen between now and next May um but clearly Norwegian wasn’t very confident about the op the chance that they were going to be able to go there um more than a year from now so let me know what you think about that in the comments but the other cruises that were

Canceled I just want to zip through these because it’s on a lot of ships so the Norwegian Epic November 1st of 2025 and November 11th of 2025 we’ve got the Jade for four sailings February through March of 2025 the Norwegian Pearl October 15th of 2025 the Norwegian Sky

Has several sailings in April and May in the beginning of June of 2025 the Norwegian Spirit January of 2025 the Norwegian Star in May in the beginning of June of 2025 and then finally the Norwegian Viva and I looked up and indeed those are those cruises so we’ve

Got May um and September of 2025 that they are not going to be able to do those cruises that go to Israel so we will keep an eye on the one on Princess and decide what to do when it gets a little bit of close a little bit closer

I am intentionally leaving that window of time open in a perfect world I would really like to do a cruise that sails from Israel because then we could fly there do a Land Tour see everything and then embark on a cruise from there but we’ll just have to see how everything

Goes now another quick update for you all um the the discovery princess how fun is that we are really excited so the discovery princess is currently sailing she departed yesterday just on a short um cruise from May 31st until April 3rd there and uh so we’ve got let’s go

Family members who are on board so I really appreciate the update right now there are 4,300 guests on board and I let you know that last week the discovery princess crew members were letting um let’s go family members know that there were going to be 700 children

On board which fits perfectly around the Easter holiday and family time so clearly that’s where we get them if those um all the cabins are full at Double occupancy there would be 3,660 guests so with that 4,300 on board um there’s a lot of families and a lot

Of children so I hope that those people are having a wonderful Cruise also our let’s go family member on board I appreciate the update uh they went to the meet and greet that they have with Cru critic and um here are some updates from that first of all um when the

Actual uh eclipse happens they are going to be have the ship facing starboard towards the eclipse they say there will be lots of eclipse activities going on there going to be lots of regular activities going on uh it’s really fun to note that the officers um that showed

Up at the meet and greet including the captain have never witnessed an eclipse from a ship before so this is going to be a special experience not only for the guests on board but also for the crew and including uh the captain there um they uh here’s a quick note for those of

You that have um the Plus or the premiere package and you want to get the cake um if you’re not familiar with this those premium desserts that come with a Plus Pack pack AG you get two a day or the premiere package you get unlimited you can do those ice cream sunday

Desserts or the um cake that is um like a seven I don’t know how many layers like seven layers maybe but it’s a tall cake um she said that those are located in the gelato shop and not in the international cafe on the Discovery princess so now you know where to go to

Access that right off and here’s a really fun thing now we have noticed this on our app in the schedule of events but weren’t really sure how it was going to work and she said that there is going to be a planetarium set up on the theater stage there um and

It’s going to be able to accommodate 15 people at a time and we in looking at the schedule of events um that shows up on our app right now it looks like it um those sessions also run every 15 minutes so we will let you know we’re going to

And she said signups will be available once she get on board the ship so we’re going to try to sign up for that we’ll let you know how it goes but the important thing to know is um those of you who are going to be on board the

Afternoon of the eclipse but then we realize these planetarium things we’re going to be going on and with um our let’s go family member letting us know that you sign up for a time um I don’t I don’t know what time we’re going to be

Able to get yet and I don’t want to have something on top of something else and so we’ll just figure out a good time to do a meet and greet because we would like to meet you don’t forget if you’re going to be in the area we’re going to

To you about uh Cruise passengers being left behind and that happened in a port there in Africa so here are some things I want you to think about with that first of all as part of that experience there the passengers who were left behind who missed that last tender could

See the ship still and they were not very happy that they didn’t send a tender back to pick them up but someone noted that on Holland America that there were some passengers who did not make it back on the private island of half moony in time for the last tender the captain

Made the decision to put another tender back in the water and go get them and as a result of that the ship did sustain $2,500 in fines for doing that and so I think this really highlights the situation that it’s not as always as

Simple as we think to be able to get to to redeploy another tender and to go pick people up again and I think that often it would involve much more than many maybe they are not allowed to there’s a window of time that they’re able to operate in that Harbor and then

Or that port and then they have to leave and they just can’t easily um do that so I think that’s a really good thing for us to all remember as we’re making our plans now the other thing that goes with this and um you know sometimes I really

Need to get better at putting a lot of my thoughts into words uh we have a let’s go family member who was actually had booked that cruise that those people um unfortunately missed the last tender there in Africa on that island now um the interesting thing to me and this

Really highlights the research that we need to do not only before we book a cruise but even after we book a cruise because they booked this cruise and then they realized as they looked at it that there were really not any Norwegian excursions in a lot of the ports and so

If you were really going to go see anything you would have to um book an Excursion with a third party provider and that’s truly how people got in the position that they didn’t make it back to the uh tender in time to take the last tender so here are some things that

I want you to keep in mind when on the major um Cruise Lines websites and even the others you can see a lot of the ports that they visit before you go and on several of the websites you can see a lot of the excursions that they offer in

These different ports but you don’t really know what excursions are going to be offered in your ports of call for your actual sailing usually until you book your cruise so once you book your cruise I think it is really important even if you book a cruise that is a long

Time coming you’ve got you know a year or two until you’re going to be going on that look at the excursions right away and see what is offered not only is what you want to do in those places offered but are there really excursions offered by the cruise line because if there are

Not then that would make us want to um do more research to decide if that is the kind of um location that would work well for us to consider wanting to do a third party Excursion and as you do that I um the let’s go family member that had

Had this Cruise book they cancelled because she realized that she didn’t want to do a third- party um Excursion in Africa and risk being left behind and so I know that this is really hard and I am not picking it all on the people who got left behind my thoughts and my

Prayers are with them actually because I would hate to be in that situation but I really want you all to think about this when you go to Booka Cruz once you book The Cruise look and see what’s available because sometimes at least me um I look at all these wonderful exotic places

That I want to get to go but um we all need to do um due diligence and look at the whole situation so that we don’t book something that isn’t going to be what we expected so put that on your list of things to look at and when you

See a cruise that really doesn’t have any excursions through the cruise line that might be a sailing to still steer clear of when you’re looking at booking a cruise I really appreciate you all being here with me today I will see you here again tomorrow I do want to let you know
