  2. Often you can find manuals for appliances in English, online on producer's website. I did get a manual for my rice cooker that way and just printed it.

  3. Happy birthday Kara, you and your house are looking great! Have a taco and ice cold drink for me. Good to see that everything is working out well for you.

  4. Thai does not have any pension. Thailand has higher personal income rate than developed countries like the US or Singapore but you do not have any pension after retired, less than 6% of Thai people pay personal income tax. Your mom look quite healthy both physically and mentally.

  5. Hi Chuck, You mentioned about social security survivor benefits. I know all the arguments for taking social security at 62, but if you can wait (financially) until full retirement age, the long term benefit for a younger and surviving wife can be significant. When you begin taking social security will affect her survivor benefits. Your amount (less any reductions for taking SS before full retirement) will determine her survivor benefit. Suppose you collect $2,000 at 67 (approximate full retirement), and your wife uses your record to collect, at your death she would collect the full amount for the rest of her life ($2,000). Once she reaches full retirement age, and assuming you are still living, she also could collect $1,000 even with you collecting g the full $2,000. There are some very interesting rules that depending on the length of the marriage (and whether or not the ex-wife remarries before age 55) that could allow ex-wives to also collect on your social security record — to include collecting the full amount at your death (this doesn’t affect what your wife will receive).

  6. Your mum's apartment is looking great now, I wish I had that cooler when I was there. It doesn't look that bad, Chuck, honestly. Oh and Happy birthday 🎂!

  7. Nice video I enjoy your everyday life. Videos is going to the stores and markets. Just being able to see what’s available. Takes away a little of the wonder about what they have in the stores there they pretty much have everything!!!
I think a lot of people that move over to Southeast Asia end up bringing too much junk with them when it’s already available there no sense in shipping every single thing in your household.

  8. Social Security is not the PONZI scheme some detractors say it is. If one is receiving $32k in annual SS retirement benefits, that is the equivalent of having $825k cash in the bank (which few Americans actually have) earning 4% interest.

This is also demonstrated by the fact that an ex-wife can get 50% of your SS benefits while you still get 100% as long as she does not remarry. n
AND if you are of retirement age receiving SS and your younger American wife have children under 18 years of age, your wife and child EACH get 75% of your SS upon your demise until the child is 18. Such a benefit could amount to $1 million dollars total over 18 years.

  9. I have now assessed that your videos provide a way for me to escape stress in my life until I get back to Thailand this year. I didn't know you before when you lived in USA. However, I can tell you are so much more relaxed, and the way you present your content is so polite and soft spoken, very kind indeed!! looking forward to next video! Thanks for sharing! 😁

  10. Your SS benefit is based on your average of 35 years of working. If you're in Thailand at 55, thus not contributing to SS, and talking about taking early SS (age 62) there's no way you're getting 2,000 per month. And, of course, while your wife is eligible, her share of your SS will be based on her age at your death. If she's not FRA, then her share will be proportioned downward.
