Traveled from London to the Port-en-Bessin area of Normandy to visit the D-Day Beaches!
***Itinerary***
Stayed at Studios2Let Cartwright Gardens for the last night =( Loved this place:
Took the tube from Euston Square Station to Liverpool Street to catch the train to Southend Airport.
Flew from Southend to Caen Airport on Flybe…well I think it was Flybe…it looked like a cargo plane and made both of our stomachs VERY unhappy. Didn’t throw up though so I’m proud of me.
After MUCH struggle reading French, caught a bus from the airport to…kinda near the car rental place. The driver was trying to help us but we abandoned the bus at the transfer station once we realized we’d have to take two more buses and we were only a mile or two from the car rental.
After a nice walk through Caen, we found Europcar near Caen’s train station. Easily got our car and set off to our Airbnb in Port-en-Bessin.
Stayed at Chez Sophie:
If you use our Airbnb link to book, you’ll get $55 off your first stay with Airbnb:
Drove to Omaha Beach and grabbed a snack at the nearby Restaurant l’Omaha to walk along the beach with.
Drove to the Super U grocery store and stocked up on lots of chow. Major difference between France/England and the US is that the healthier/fresher the food, the cheaper it is. We were able to get all sorts of fresh and local meats, cheeses, breads, fruits, and vegetables for WAAAY less than Walmart in the states. And things like Oreos or pop? Super expensive. Makes it a lot easier to eat healthy.
Walked into Port-en-Bessin and enjoyed the harbor and beach town. Ate a great dinner at Le 47eme Brasserie where everyone made fun of my terrible French and headed back to our Airbnb.
