Taormina – SUN PRINCESS Cruises To Sicily And ‘The WORST Pizza In Italy’

well good morning from
Sicily the Cena to be
precise but we’re not going to have a
look around missina we’re going to take
the train to the small town of
taramina which is about an hour
away so the weather looks okay it’s B be
warming
up so let’s go
[Music]
morning morning Mar it’s like a Cold
Spring this morning because the up out
up and
[Music]
out this was unexpected so far only did
I just catch you moaning about me then
no i’ never moan about you yes you did
you’re my lovely husband so we’re on
train going to
taramina what accent that in
Italy there was about 20 minutes walk
from the ship yeah the way you walk 10
minutes quite straightforward and if
you’re confused go to the ticket office
uh the lady there very
helpful yeah but just cuz the de idiots
like us that’s
why anyway should
be I say set in sale we should be
departing
in about five minutes
[Music]
I
[Music]
[Laughter]
quite an interesting bus ride up here
only problem it’s only a small bus and
it runs every 25 minutes or something so
we missed the one or it wasn’t enough
room
[Music]
some creepy
puppets we’ve just walked down to the
public
gardens and they’re nice and
cool with a
[Music]
view I’m sure through here you can see
the famous volcano of sicy Mount
Etna covered in snow
[Music]
wow look at
that wow
[Music]
somehow I became a leader of a big group
of people from the ship and they’re all
following me for
directions I don’t know how that
happened and the trains and we’re
meeting up with them a quarter to two to
head
back don’t know how we became uh the
tour
guides I can’t let them down can
I now spoted a cafe
I’ve ordered this a cafe it might be a
pizza but pretty Grim there something
you get out of a vending
machine I don’t know what you expected
for3 you got anything better than my
pizza it’s not too bad the ham
tomato
Cheese’s gone shopping but I can’t come
to this
without going to the Greco Roman
Amphitheater
unfortunately it’s got busier since we
arrived hopefully won’t be too busy up
there I think nearly everybody’s off the
ship to be
[Music]
honest well this Amphitheater I think it
dates from the 3rd Century BC
and we started by the Greeks then the
Romans took it
over let’s go take a look it’s the
second largest in
Sicily say that it doesn’t look that
busy up here we’ll
[Music]
see how
much
12 when we first arrived it was
empty but now I’ve come back
but it’s still not too bad I’m just R
imp patient by the way that pizza was
one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had
anywhere really was really
stale and the cheese on it was
well this is quite
impressive definitely worth
[Music]
visiting apparently all of this has been
carved out of the hillside
and it’s still in use today you can see
the seat
numbers and it’s really quiet in here as
well even though it’s the middle of the
[Music]
afternoon as I’m touring the theater I’m
keeping one eye on Mount etner
just making sure it’s not going to go
off we are already
[Music]
close if you look you can see where was
built into the Cliff
face and a lot of this rock was removed
to build the amphitheater
[Music]
so that was a quick look around the
amphitheater the Greco Roman
Amphitheater of
taramina let’s go back into town and
find m
[Music]
so I’m walking back down to the main
Square uh to meet
Mel I wonder what she’s bought one thing
she hasn’t bought
yet fridge
magnets don’t know why that’s her thing
and there’s tons of tat shops everywhere
look
look what I
found hey yeah that way no lovely well
I’ve been in the ruins yeah you wouldn’t
have enjoyed it oh good yeah what have
you been up to well I’ve been looking
one the shops lot of nice shops um some
of them are quite expensive some
designer shops but other ones not too
bad and we’ve got some lovely cookies
the gorgeous cookies really picturesque
it’s definitely worth coming here it’s
really nice little town I can’t imagine
how busy will be in the height summer
though again it’s really nice weather at
a nice crowd level today isn’t it yeah
that’s the main thing M did you did you
bump into any
mafia
no don’t think
so that’s sell an ice
[Music]
cream typical we walk on this street the
High Street and there’s T of little nice
cafes in the side Aries and we stopped
at the worst one probably and had the
worst pizza ever look at these places
don’t
they you found it
[Music]
the back the square wait to get the best
down to the railway station again just
had some ice cream and because I was
rushing it to meet other people I got
ice cream headache I had one of those
since I was a
[Music]
kid oh my God ice cream
[Music]
head we’ve made it back to the station
and look at this
station well this old station in
taramina was in The Godfather Part three
it’s quite a nice little station right
next
to the
Sea and look at this down here they’ve
got the old uh water pipes for the old
steam
trains but what the hell is
that so the train should be here in 10
minutes to take us back to mesina and
the ship so we’ll see you on board the
sun
princess very shortly
well good evening I’m back on the sun
princess sitting on the balcony having a
beer Mel’s inside
relaxing overlooking the town or the
city of Vina in
Sicily we had a good day today we took
the train to
taramina got back about
4:00 had a quick look around
Lina and back to the
ship
so we don’t know what we’re going to do
tonight but a relaxing one I
think and tomorrow is another C day
which myself and Val really enjoyed so
we’ll see you later well just checked
we’re
sailing I am SA
am thank you I have to add this the end
of the video we entered the like a music
singalong trivia and we won only two of
us look a group of
people but Mel’s gone to the bathroom
and she missed out on the prize giving
good morning as we head west across the
med towards mayorca
[Music]
you’re with me give me a yeah
[Applause]

Sun Princess reaches the port city of Messina, Sicily as the inaugural cruise around the Mediterranean continues.

We take a train trip to the hilltop town of Taormina near Mount Etna.

This area of Sicily was used for many locations in The Godfather and Taormina station appears in The Godfather III.

The picturesque town of Taormina is the location of the Taormina Amphitheatre (Teatro Greco Romano), built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC and rebuilt and enlarged by the Romans.

I also end up having the “Worst Pizza In Italy”.

The train from Messina to Taormina takes about 50 minutes

  3. Well done video – gives a great idea of a day in Taormina. How did you get from Taormina back down to the train station – did you take the bus again? I wonder if taxis are readily available in Taormina to take people to the station? Thanks for your video 🙂
