We only had 2 hours to explore POMPEII (was it worth it?)
Pompei the ancient Roman city buried by
a volcano nearly 2,000 years ago
perfectly preserved and open for
tourists to explore today welcome to
adventures with Penny we’re in Pompei
finally we were supposed to get here
with four hours to spend exploring the
ruins but we only have two so let’s see
as much as we can in two hours you may
be wondering how we got in this
situation we took the train from Naples
to Pompei which only takes about 40
minutes but we made one serious
miscalculation well that train line it
did get us to Pompei but unfortunately
it got us to the Pompei station that’s a
25-minute walk from our hotel so now we
get to walk 25 minutes to our hotel drop
all of our stuff check in and then walk
right back to go to the ruins cuz the
ruins as you can see are right there
they’re just behind it finally our hotel
so hot we made it kind of small but
that’s fine oh it’s just for one night
yeah we just wanted a place to sleep but
no more time to waste now we got to
change I want to change it’s freaking
hat out I’m going to ride or die oh wow
okay but I do need to go get some water
somewhere oh yeah for sure we sweat a
ton sweat a ton all the buckets we’re
sweat and hopefully we’ll have like 2
and 1/2 hours in pound pay so here we
go we’re in Pompei we were supposed to
get get here with 4 hours to spend
exploring the ruins but we only have two
so this will be a fast and quick way to
see the ruins we got an audio guide here
and it was like €1 15 for the both of us
so for two and for that amount with a
real person guiding you it would be like
€1 so we thought it was a good deal and
it comes with like a map and you can
press the buttons and learn more about
the different sites so let’s see as much
as we can in 2 hours
[Music]
do you know what that says not quite I
don’t know my Latin very well obviously
says shortcut c d a n g e r
[Music]
shortcut we’re in the Pompei
Amphitheater right now which we just
learned from our audio guides is one of
the oldest buildings of its kind it
could house like 20 th000 people and
right here they watched Gladiators and
wild animals have bloody fights they
would come in through that door over
there and people would watch as they
fight to the death and whatnot sounds
like a good
time I guess a volcano erupted like 79
ad I should know that wait wait wait
hold on hold on hold on hold on hold
on oh not that bad in 79 9 ad a huge
eruption from Mount vvus showered Pompei
with volcanic debris and blisteringly
hot gases many buildings were destroyed
and the people of Pompei were either
crushed by pmus or died quickly from
heat or Suffocation you think all the
holes in the rocks are from all the
little p Stones a there was an
earthquake in like 65 that also did some
damage so the house of orchards they
were reconstructing it and refinishing
it after the earthquake then it got
interrupted by the death of Pompei I
don’t know what these are but they look
like roof tiles to me the city was left
buried under a deep layer of volcanic
ash that kept it preserved until its
Discovery in the 17th century we’re not
really sure why everything is gated off
and there’s doors everywhere but we’re
trying to see what we can you can get
glimpses of some really cool stuff like
even in here you can see like painting
on the walls and here beside us there’s
like this gorgeous marble
I’m like very impressed I wish that
there was more informational like
plaques around our audio guide only kind
of talks about the big things so maybe
that’s why having an actual guide would
be a good
[Music]
thing so these streets allowed for
drainage and possibly where sewage as
well would go through so they put these
every now and then down the road so you
could walk across it without having to
get your feet in that nastiness you
telling me I’ve been walking in the
sewage
[Music]
streets we just learned that this house
dates back to the 2 Century
BC holy crap this stuff is old and like
you can see all these little tile works
and paintings inside and stuff that’s so
crazy bet you wish you could go in I
sure do
[Music]
don’t walk in the poop
[Music]
Street this was a laundromat they clean
clothes in there how did they clean
clothes you might ask let me tell you
they poured pee into that Basin over
there and then stomped on the clothes
pee
that’s disgusting thank goodness
technology has advanced in 2,000 years
am I
[Music]
right obviously that’s a pizza oven oh
yeah I hope
so oh my goodness look you can go in
this one it is the house of Cornelius
thank you Cornelius for opening your
house to us and allowing us to enter
everybody else has been mean
[Music]
damn Cornelius you got a huge
[Music]
house man those Romans really love their
tiles
so this was the spa pool and gym area
which is this big complex that has all
these different rooms and it’s
incredible how much it’s maintained like
you can kind of see even from here all
of the carving like along the pillars
there’s like painting still on the walls
it’s crazy to think how it’s been
preserved for thousands of years almost
2,000 yeah
there he is Mount vvus the one that did
all of this you’re a killer he’s ready
to blow again
[Music]
Trapper I couldn’t help but touch it
this is crazy somebody carved this like
2,000 years ago that’s
wild right now we’re in the Forum of
pompe which is kind of like the main
Square cool place to be the hangout and
so far we have seen the um what would
you call it the headquarters of the wool
manufacturer place and a temple which is
really cool I’m hoping we can get a a
few more things in before we get kicked
out and I asked Peter how do you think
they’re going to let us know when it’s
time to leave and he said mount vvus
would fire a warning shot so guess we’ll
[Music]
see obviously coming to Pompei is
incredible and a inspiring because of
how well preserved this place is and
it’s so ancient but at the end of the
day like we have to remember what
happened here and how incredibly sad and
like insane that was like hundreds of
thousands of people died I don’t
remember the exact number right now but
this is preserved a cast of this
person’s final moments like huddled up
as him and everyone he knew
died we did watch a documentary I
believe it was History Channel about
Pompei and they said that a lot of
people if they couldn’t escape or or
were not trying to escapee some people
just laid down in their home and waited
for the inevitable because they either
couldn’t get out of their house or it
was just too late so I don’t know what’s
going on here that’s the case but it’s
just really crazy to think
about right now we’re standing in the
Basilica and up there you think it’s an
altar but it’s actually a Podium where
the judge sat they wanted him to be
isolated in case he made a judgment on
somebody they didn’t like and they
didn’t know what their reaction might be
he’d be safe H
interesting sounds like they got crazy
yeah thanks
audio after using the audio guide for
our visit I will say I think it was
worth it obviously having your own
private guide would be way better cuz
you could say what’s that what’s that
and have all the information you want
and these aren’t all inclusive of
everything inside of Pompei but you know
what it was better than nothing and had
a lot of awesome information so if you
are on a budget and looking for some
information for your trip I’d say do it
Lenny’s got to go video the
bum now we’re at the Temple of Venus
behind us which was mainly made out of
marble and no longer is there so it’s
not much to look at but this
unfortunately concludes our trip to
Pompei it was a super short trip but but
still totally worth it in my opinion
because it’s absolutely epic and
incredible how old and well preserved
everything is totally worth it but you
know we’re going to have to come back
someday for a full day maybe ball out
and get ourselves a guide who knows but
I think that’s it for today it’s getting
dark now so it’s time to go get a drink
sounds like the siren’s going off that
literally means it’s closing now so if

We only had 2 hours to explore the ruins of Pompeii! After some miscalculations getting to Pompeii, we ended up with only 2 hours rather than the 4 we had planned on having to explore the ruins during our trip to Italy. It’s recommended to have AT LEAST 4 hours or a half day to visit the Pompeii ruins. So, was it worth visiting this famous buried Roman city anyway?
In this video, we take you along on our whirlwind tour of Pompeii, trying to see as much as possible in only 2 hours while we share the interesting facts that we learn along the way.

Pompeii was incredible and we can’t wait to visit again someday (with more than 2 hours! 😅). I’m curious what you think – if you didn’t “have enough time” to visit a bucketlist destination, would you visit anyway and try to make the most of the time that you do have OR would you skip it, planning to visit again someday when you can “do it right”? 🧐
