Is The Taj Mahal Worth Visiting?

Agra is one of the most popular cities
in India for tourists and there’s one
reason for that
and that’s the Taj Mahal one of the
Seven Wonders of the World I’m heading
down there now that’s what I’m gonna do
today now to be honest I’m not really
expecting to be blown away by this I’ve
got a feeling it might be very very
touristy and it is very very overpriced
we’ll see we’ll see what it’s like it’s
one of the Seven Wonders of the World so
I’ve got to go and see it
first I’m going to go off and explore
Taj walk or something I think there’s a
forest or a park and apparently you can
get decent views of the Taj Mahal from
there so we’re going to do a bit of a
nature trail and then head to the Taj
Mahal last night
there was a guest in the hostel from
South Korea
and she asked me if I granted
going to see the Taj Mahal for some
nights she was getting off at half past
four this morning
who doesn’t know me very well this year
I decided I was going to do uh the
sunset at Taj Mahal but I can’t even be
bothered waiting for that to be honest
it’s going to be Mega busy and even more
so at sunset
I didn’t know until today that we’re
actually uh in some Indian holiday
tomorrow Monday is also a holiday so
it’s going to be pretty packed
oh that was easy enough to find
150
I’m in the Taj nature trail then
don’t know
but really this is going to be like
it all seems a bit man-made to be honest
lots of pictures of Wildlife
but are we actually gonna see any
well there’s a pigeon
it’s probably coming out of the speaker
one of the squirrels that you see
everywhere in India
oh
there it is
oh there’s an outdoor gymnasium here
which I’m not going to take advantage of
over here there seems to be some kind of
viewpoint
so maybe this is
where you’ll get the best view of the
Taj Mahal from this park
well I can kind of see it
not much going on in this park to be
honest
I mean
there are other Trails which come away
from the yellow Trail so maybe I should
just go and
explore a bit further into the forest
they do appear to be people wandering
around over there
that’s the same Better Days
this is the crocodile’s head
foreign
charging 150 rupees
um it’s just anyone’s guess and to be
honest
yeah there’s not much here I suppose one
thing it’s got going for it is
but it does get you out of the hustle
and muscle of this city
and it is very quiet and peaceful
but there’s not going to be anything
else to discover in here is the
otherwise the yellow line would take you
to it
I just visited this toilet behind me and
bloody hell there must have been a
million mosquitoes in there
so I’m expecting to start itching all
around my legs anytime soon
I was basically in the toilet and just
shaking my entire body to see if that
would stop them from biting and to be
honest
can’t feel any bites yet
if anybody had walked in and seen me
taking a pistol
right oh this has been a bloody waste of
time in it
I suppose my heart’s a bit more
impressive
well I nearly walked straight past this
it’s probably the best view we’ve had so
far
I’ve just sat down and
ordered my ticket online so I don’t have
to queue up a lot to be honest I don’t
think there’ll be much of a queue anyway
because there were different cues for
foreigners honey
bear seen any foreigners it’s all
Indians
so yeah
let’s go and do it then it’s always my
heart
something that excited I’m already
I’ve been uh I’m okay thank you
try again
yeah I’ve already been offered magnets
from a young guy who basically had no
fingers to get a thumb and a little
stump or a little finger which he um
really made sure that I saw
and he was selling these magnets for one
dollar for instead of weren’t interested
and they said how much you want to pay
and the thing is I don’t want a magnet I
don’t mind helping people out but you
hear these stories that these people
sometimes deliberately
handicapped they deliberately crippled
in order to get more money
and I can’t support that
so
I mean I don’t know if that’s in story
but I don’t know that it isn’t it
the tour guide who’s just trying to sign
these Services 500 a day did the only
way to get my shoe cover and my free
bottle of water I would have watched it
past that
all right let’s have a look then
[Music]
coach so now I just got to go through
the security check
all right I think I’ve got through all
the security now I think I’ve got past
all the tour guides Scouting For
Business Taj Mahal Through The Years
here
not much has changed
for the first time when you enter is all
the information about monkeys don’t make
eye contact don’t tease them don’t take
a photo don’t stop near them don’t feed
them don’t throw vegetables
or eatables so we’re here and there
throw them in the Dustbin with lids
foreign
a few monkeys then
what I’m presuming but this is the gate
to the Taj Mahal
that’s impressive enough to be honest
oh God offering for 200 rupees so you
still get guys once you even in still
turn them down
and here we are this is the uh
the Gateway
to the Taj Mahal one of the Seven
Wonders of the World
so we’ll get a bit of the uh info
out of the way so it was built by the
Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in
commemoration of his favorite wife
the empress mumtaz Mahal
who died in 1631 at the birth of her
14th child
the grease-stricken Emperor
built the Tomb in her memory and he died
in 1666 A.D
which was 35 years later
and he’s buried alongside his wife
inside the mausoleum
so
about the death of
one of his wives I wonder what the other
wives had built in
on Earth their deaths
it’s clearly the favorite
this is not
really a place that I’m expecting to be
blown away by just
very very tourists say it’s expensive
and
it’s not really my thing but I can see
it I’m coming out of it now
well I just got stopped on my way in I
thought there were the time I couldn’t
film but I can film but I just got to
pay
all right
you want to see it then let’s see if we
can get in front of the crowns first
yeah
[Music]
remember this
but size my heart and all it’s cool
one of the Seven Wonders of the World
[Music]
it’s 25.
to use my daughter
and then there’s a sign here that says
that I can only film up to this point so
basically I paid to film from these
stairs and that’s it
[Music]
well that’s one rule I’m going to be
drinking
is this the bench where Princess Diana
sat
well getting closer and closer
no one’s told me to have stopped filming
yeah although there is a security guard
on the other side of this fountain
all right this is as close as I’m going
to be able to get to it
without losing part of it
I’m stood right in front of it now
I reckon what I’m going to do is I’m
going to walk all the way around the
back
to the river come around this side and
then go in I have actually paid to go in
although I have read the insides nowhere
near as impressive as the outside but
for a too quick I’ve got to do it and I
really
so there it is it’s Taj Mahal
[Music]
yeah I thought so okay
you win as well
you’re gonna be on YouTube
thank you good luck my friends
today’s good side
it’s okay then right so we’ve come over
to the west side of the Taj Mahal how is
it East I think it’s the East actually
and
this is mosque
there’s another mosque on the other side
exactly the same symmetrical
um which kind of frames the main Taj
Mahal in the in the middle hello
of course my friend
[Music]
he’s going little fella
thank you no father my friend
100 rupees
Kevin
wow I’m a bloody celebrity in this place
right so this is the side of the Taj
Mahal it’s not less impressive is it
amazing
and this is the mosque and I think that
this one actually um
they do serve different functions
although they are completely identical I
think one’s like a prayer room and one
is I don’t know maybe
education room or something I don’t know
maybe we’ll find out when we get over to
the other side
can we actually go in can we can go in
this part but it seems to be fun stuff
in the middle
[Music]
I think I’m gonna get
asked for photos again
as you can see here the Taj Mahal the
back end of it
is faces this River
and there are a couple of viewpoints
over on that side
and there’s a couple of things I wanted
to go and look at over there but there’s
only one bridge to get across there and
it’s quite far out
so I don’t know if I’m gonna get down to
doing that
anyway I mean I’m not gonna get any
better view than this summer
well I’m taking photos over on the
West Side now this is the west side
and I’m not sure why because it’s
exactly the same as the other side
even the uh Taj Mahal is exactly the
same
wow
what beside my home
right in front of me
right this is the entrance to the main
Mausoleum which is this and uh I’ve Got
a Feeling
in fact I’m pretty sure that I’m not
gonna be allowed to film inside
so
I need to put on my uh shoe coverings
and
and get in there
got right to the
main gate and the first time the season
photography is prohibited
[Music]
so that is the guy who had this bill and
the woman he had it built for
descriptions of the Quran all around the
side well the actual Mausoleum itself
the inside was uh
nothing much really
I mean they charge an extra 200 rupees
or two pounds to go inside
which
it should just be included from the
price of the ticket I don’t know why
well they’re just trying to make as much
money as they can aren’t they but
there’s nothing to really to look at
inside
I guess there is but
you know the outside is the uh the most
impressive I just have the Taj Mahal
Museum to do now and then I’ve done
everything in here it’s probably been
about an hour or so
in total maybe a little bit more
no it costs 13 pounds
and that included two pounds ignition to
go inside but as I said inside
so you can skip it you know the real
beauty of the Taj Mahal is is from the
outside
and that was 1100
with a 50 rupees discount if you book
online so that’s probably the only
wonder the world I’ve ever been to
apart from brahmer Lane in Sheffield
the bird’s having a little bath
trying to cool down
well
all right
Museum man
entry free which is a nice event
considering they’ve already charged you
13 quid to get in the place
everybody
all right okay
I was just about to leave and then I
remembered I’ve not got the shot of the
reflection
so I’ve just walked all around trying to
find the best spot and it looks like
this is it
and there’s the shot of the main gate
with the reflection
I’m rather remember that right at the
last minute
[Music]
okay thank you
um
all right goodbye to the tires Mahal
then
[Music]
you believe you actually have to scan
your way out
that’s unbelievable
all right I’m actually I don’t need the
toilet or the booking counter
but walking up here means I’m gonna
Escape all the tuk-tuk and shopkeepers
that are just going to pounce on me as
soon as I get to the exit
I thought I’d give it a try
I don’t squirt before I went
bloody charging it’s not paint trouble
bloody pee it’s not a Netherlands which
are probably an absolute brilliant

[Laughter]
can’t stop drinking this stuff
I just bought it from the shop there
it’s nice and cold which you don’t
always get in India but um yeah 40. the
same price as it would be anywhere else
and then right outside to the main gate
two
the size of a half the box come right
back on myself back to the exit of the
Taj Mahal because I went the wrong way
just gonna find this Viewpoint now
apparently about five minutes walk up
here there’s a Viewpoint that offers
amazing views over the tires from home
so I’m just going to take
a quick look at that and then
yeah then that’ll be me done
I’d expect a viewpoint
it’s a bit high up for this road if
anything is going down
so who knows
maybe the Viewpoint is from low down and
it’s at the side of the river and you’re
looking up at the Taj Mahal that seems
to be
the case because I can’t see any
indications of any uphill climbing which
is the kind of viewpoint I like this is
the tower at the corner the northeast
corner
okay
it says there’s a Viewpoint of the Taj
Mahal from the Riverside
and there we are
foreign
there’s no one down here that’s all
there’s a few people
they used to be boats that would take
tourists on here
but I’ve just read that
it’s all stopped now
oh okay this gate was open earlier and I
was gonna go in and see if I could take
a few shots but the uh security guy that
was in there as um got these calls
they’re getting there
I’ve started walking up alongside the
fence to get a photo but I was shouted
back by all the security but one of them
has actually walked all the way over
here to tell me that I can take a photo
from here
just not
oh in fact yeah I mean it’s better from
here anyway because it just gets all
muddy and horrible up there
it was worth coming down just for that
one shot
with the Taj Mahal the river
and the Sun
I bet it looks amazing it’s Sunset I
might come down and do that again
tomorrow hello
I’m moving forward by a guy who wants
money
I keep saying no
money
I’m gonna have a look at this mosque
he’s not getting anything
oh
solution
[Music]
oh
this is the old mosque
I’m not sure if it’s a working mosque
now there’s a sign up here saying it’s a
protected Monument
well looks like these are kind of buses
which take people from the Taj Mahal up
to somewhere
but only hell they’re all actually
queuing
but then he gets to the buses and then
it just becomes a free pool
it’s the first time I’ve actually seen
an orderly cube in India
normally everyone just pushes in front
of each other and just yeah it’s chaos
well that is definitely it now for my
day adventurizing in the Taj Mahal
it’s expensive
you know for a foreigner it’s 1300 that
includes the mausoleum you don’t have to
do the Muslim and then it’s 11.
100 I think it was if you buy online you
get a 50 pence discount
but it’s just one of them things that
you have to come and see there’s no
other reason why you come to Agra really
um apart from to come and see the Taj
Mahal
so and to be honest I wasn’t really
expecting much I was expecting it to be
a very Tourist Day and a bit overrated
and overpriced but when you walk through
the main gate and you can see it
just come in interview
that was a pretty awesome experience
so
it’s a thumbs up from me
this
this is

On my final day in the city of Agra in India, I headed to its most famous site.

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built in the 17th century by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan. It was built to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

These days, the Taj Mahal is packed wih tourists from all over the world. I was concerned that it would be too busy, too expensive and a bit of a ripoff.

Join me as I check out one of the wonders of the world..

  1. It's time you visited "Kailasa Temple" a true wonder of the world. It's UNESCO World Heritage site and the only monolithic temple in the world which was carved from Top to bottom.😊

  2. The spot @ 21:18 will get you some nice sunset pictures when the sun goes down the horizon and the Taj silhouetted against a orange sky. Also, at this point you can pay the boat guy for a ride on the river. Although this is not allowed officially.
if you had walked down a little further down in the back is a small village with a hill on which the British had built viewing pavilions. This point gives the best photoshoots for sunset.

  3. Bro there are many underrated and cool places to visit in india that are worth visiting don't just stick to the traditional and stereotypical tourist places just do some research
I will suggest north east india, east india, South India and Maharashtra
