hello YouTube Friends welcome to my

historical Holocaust Memorial of Berlin
in Germany but before we do that please
don’t forget to
[Music]
subscribe from the Brandenburg gate and
Parliament building of Berlin we
proceeded to see the Holocaust Memorial
this is Alan’s backless so here we
[Music]
go
[Music]
[Music]
the Holocaust Memorial is a few blocks
away from the Brandenburg gate it
started to get dark although it’s only
400 p.m. so we need to be in a hurry to
see the Holocaust
[Music]
[Music]
Memorial finally we’re here the memor
morial to the murder juice of Europe is
better known as the Holocaust Memorial
by most berliners opened in May 2005 the
memorial in Berlin is located near the
Brandenburg gate and is one of the
city’s most impressive
[Music]
sites
[Music]
in June
1999 the bundist tag decided to build
the memorial to the murdered Jews of
Europe which is the official name of the
memorial in the immediate vicinity of
the brandenburg’s gate after 2 years of
construction the memorial was
ceremoniously opened on May 10th 20 5 on
a field of about 19,000 square m
2,711 Steels were installed just as the
design by the New York architect Peter
Eisenman and Vis the memorial is the
central Holocaust Memorial in
[Music]
Germany
if we’re going to go back and review the
history the Holocaust was the genocide
of European Jews during World War II
between 1941 and
1945 Nazi Germany and its collaborators
systematically murdered some 6 million
Jews across German occupied Europe
around 2/3 of Europe’s Jewish
population the murders were carried out
primarily through mass shootings and
poison Gus in extermination
[Music]
comps the term Holocaust derived from a
Greek word meaning burned offering has
become the most common word used to
describe the Nazi extermination of juice
in English and many other languages the
term Holocaust is sometimes used to
refer to the persecution of other groups
that the Nazis targeted especially those
targeted on a biological basis in
particular the Roma and cinti as well as
Soviet prisoners of war and poish and
Soviet
[Music]
[Music]
civilians
[Music]
the Holocaust Memorial consists of an
undulating field of
2,711 concrete Steels which can be
passed through from all sides while
walking between The Columns of different
heights and the Labyrinth corridors
visitors may experience a brief moment
of
disorientation which should open up
space for discussion beneath the
memorial is the information center which
documents the crimes of the Nazi era in
team
[Music]
rooms
[Music]
the area is open day and night and from
all four sides you can fully immerse
yourself in the fully accessible spatial
structure the memorial is on a slight
slope and its wav likee form is
different wherever you stand the uneven
concrete floors gives many visitors a
moment of giddiness or even
uncertainty its openness and
abstractness gives you space to confront
the topic in your own personal way the
sheer size of the installation and its
lack of a central point of remembrance
call into question the conventional
concept of a memorial this creates a
place of remembrance but not with the
usual
means as we left the hall OST Memorial I
had a heavy heart for the murdered 6
million Jews but that is all part of
History we can’t go back to it but we
can learn from
[Music]
it
it’s totally dark now and we just
decided to go back to the hotel along
the way there are a lot of vendors and
you can easily buy something to
[Music]
eat
[Music]
he
[Music]
