Stuttgart is the sixth largest city in Germany with a population of about 600,000 people.
Stuttgart is located on the Neckar river in a fertile valley known as the Stuttgarter Kessel (Stuttgart Cauldron) and lies just an hour away from the Black Forest.
Stuttgart is known as the "cradle of the automobile". It is home to famous automobile museums like the Mercedes-Benz Museum and Porsche Museum. Stuttgart is often being referred to as Germany’s "Autohauptstadt" ("car capital city/capital of cars").
Stuttgart and its metropolitan area are consistently ranked among the top 4 European metropolitan areas.
Schillerplatz in considered as the oldest square in Stuttgart. It is also one of the locations of the annual Christmas market in Stuttgart.
The square was officially renamed Schillerplatz in 1934 in memory of one of Baden-Württemberg’s most famous writers and intellectuals (Statue in the middle of the square).
Schlossplatz Stuttgart (Palace Square) is the largest square in Stuttgart Mitte and home to the Neues Schloss which was constructed between 1746 and 1807.
From its construction until the mid-1800s the Palace Square was used as a military parade ground and not open to general public use.
The entire square was last fully renovated in 1977 to mark the staging of the Bundesgartenschau (Federal Garden Show) in Stuttgart. The lawns and flowerbeds were renewed in 2006 following the staging of the 2006 World Cup Finals.
It lies next to two other popular squares in Stuttgart: Karlsplatz to the south and Schillerplatz to the south west. The Königstraße (King Street) bisects the plaza from north to south.
The Neues Schloss Palace and grounds have been public property since 1918.
Every year Schlossplatz is home to major outdoor events such as open-air concerts and part of the annual Christmas Market including an outdoor ice rink.
Königstraße is renowned not only as the city’s longest pedestrian avenue, but also as one of the country’s most impressive shopping esplanades.
Königstrasse, which is 1.2 km long, is with a rate of about 13,000 visitors per hour amongst the top three pedestrian zones in Germany.
Königstrasse, is lined with a variety of shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants, it offers a vibrant atmosphere for locals and tourists alike.
The street is known for its mix of high-end retailers, department stores, and smaller shops, catering to a wide range of tastes and budgets.
Additionally, Königstraße is flanked by historic buildings and landmarks, adding to its charm and appeal. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Stuttgart.

  1. Ohhh, ich bin erschöpft. Ich war tausendmal auf dieser Straße. Es sah noch nie so seltsam aus. Die Gesichter…so kalt. In der Ferne weint ein Kind. Vaterlos … vielleicht ein uneheliches Kind. Mein Rücken schmerzt … mein Herz schmerzt … aber meine Füße, meine Füße sind belastbar! Gott sei Dank habe ich meine Stiefel ausgezogen und meine … HIMALAYA-WANDERSCHUHE angezogen!
