CARL FRIEDRIK “TRUNK” | Review | 30 Days in Tarifa, Spain | #travelvideo
[Music]
I’m here into Rea Spain on a 4-we
workation with Nomad base and for this
trip I’ve had the pleasure of using and
reviewing Carl Fredrick’s latest checked
luggage offering the trunk suitcase this
video is not sponsored but for
transparency KL friedrick did send me
this suitcase to review at no cost
however the opinions expressed in this
video are entirely my own and I would
happily spend my own money on Carl
freedrick products which I have done in
the past like all car frurip products
the thing that always strikes me is the
feeling they evoke when using them and
the trunk is no exception in fact if
anything the trunk amplifies that
feeling the design of the trunk and the
experience of traveling with it exude a
sense of style and sophistication with
an element of old worldly charm it gives
a feeling of Premium travel of luxury
from a bygone era reminiscent of the
golden age of travel like something out
of The Great Gatsby or an agaa Christy
novel in this video I’ll provide an
overview of the trunk’s key features
what I love about it and some
considerations to keep in mind when
making a purchase decision and I’ll
discuss what I feel are the best use
cases for this suitcase and how I’ve
paired it with carry-on luggage I’ll
also show you what I’ve been able to
pack for a variable spring climate
coming up in this
video the Carl frud trunk suitcase
combines exceptional materials and
Engineering prowess promising not just a
travel accessory but a travel companion
that stands the test of time at its core
the trunk features a German engineered
molong polycarbonate shell a claimed for
its remarkable durability and resistance
to impact this Aerospace grade material
ensures that the suitcase remains both
lightweight and robust perfect for the
demands of modern travel extenuating
this sturdy frame is the Exquisite fetta
lever detailing known for its Rich
patina that develops with age this lever
not only enhances the suitcases
aesthetic but also its tactile quality
adding a touch of luxury to each Journey
security is enhanced with the integrated
TSA approved locks ensuring that airport
security can inspect your luggage
without damaging the lock providing
peace of mind while aering to US Travel
regulations the mobility of the trunk is
facilitated by seamless 360 hoto silent
spinner Wheels offering a smooth and
Silent glide through airport terminals
these wheels are meticulously designed
for durability and ease ensuring that
you can navigate crowded spaces
effortlessly and with minimal noise the
trunk’s robust multi-stage Trolley
system allows for adjustable handling
making it easy to transport regardless
of your height or posture the interior
boasts a fought for 8020 split lid
opening which provides provides
convenient access and organization for
all your belongings this feature is
complemented by retractable fabric
dividers and a set of compression straps
enhancing the organizational
possibilities Additionally the suitcase
is lined with recycled polyester a
choice that reflects KL Fredrick’s
commitment to sustainability without
compromising on quality or durability
this soft yet durable lining protects
your possessions and stands up to the
wear and tear of travel each trunk also
includes a complimentary set of free
packing cubes further aiding in a ient
packing and organization with these
features the trunk is not just a piece
of luggage it is a statement of Elegance
and conscientious travel designed to be
as functional as it is beautiful it
ensures that wherever you go you carry a
piece of luxury and reliability with
you I just want to Circle back to the
spinner wheels and I really can’t praise
them enough I know I’ve mentioned this
in other videos and in last year’s
review of the carryon X but it’s such a
difference compared to my regular check
luggage so I’ve used freck luggage side
by side with my what used to be my main
luggage which is a Away Travel um and I
I’d used away for over a year and I
traveled for 6 months with their medium
size um check luggage uh and they’re
great they’re good suitcases and I’ve
stated that in the review but when it
comes to these spinner Wheels it’s such
a huge difference like particularly when
you’re um rolling them side by side it’s
like the away Wheels feel like they’re
forcibly being dragged sometimes whereas
the call fre trick just Glide and it
makes such a difference to travel days
and the comfort of traveling and you
know for this particular trip I had to
walk over D Airport’s Runway to get to
uh my hotel where I was staying at um
you know you could take a taxi and
whatnot but uh you know it was literally
just the other side of the runway so I
thought I would walk so I was Wheeling
my two suitcases across the runway and
yeah okay it’s actually a smooth service
anyway but uh it was just incredible
just like how light it was and smooth
and uh just a great experience using
them
ready the trunk is offered in KL Frick’s
signature colorways black shell with
black leather gray shell with cognac
lever and gray shell with brown lever as
a new addition to their lineup released
just a month ago the options for gray
shell and cognac or brown lever were
only recently made available as one of
the early reviewers of this suitcase I
received the black shell with black
lever the first cutaway released while
blackon black might not have been my
first choice given my carryon X is in
Gray in Cognac and my wardrobe tends to
WS earth tones like brown blue gray and
Olive the Elegance of this option cannot
be overstated it looks absolutely
fantastic smooth to the touch with a
glistening finish and extremely durable
coming off the flights from hro to Gera
showed only a few light marks which is a
testament not only to the robust design
but also to the car taken by both the
airport staff and British
Airways the Carl friederick trunk
suitcase is designed with the seasoned
traveler in mind offering specifications
tailored for both practicality and
compliance with most European us and
International Airline restrictions for
checked luggage the trunk boasts
dimensions of 73 cm in height 40 cm in
width and 37 cm in depth with a sturdy
yet manageable weight of 6.2 kg when
fully equipped with the packing cubes it
does however feel much lighter than 6.2
kg when empty though for a real world
size comparison side by side with the
carryon X it’s the same width roughly
20% deeper and 30% taller being the same
width as the Caron X makes traveling
with them together except maneuverable
even allowing you to use escalators
instead of lifts at train stations and
airports a real Advantage when you’re
trying to navigate crowded spaces
although its advertised capacity is 90 L
which suggests ample space my experience
tells a slightly different story
typically my spring and summer capture
wardrobe fits comfortably into a 75 L
suitcase however with the trunk I found
myself unexpectedly leaving behind a
couple of items that would otherwise
made the cut in my usual luggage the
discrepancy highlights that while the
trunk is expansive
the real world packing experience can
vary depending on the type and volume of
items you plan to carry the suitcase
includes efficient packing cubes that
Aid in organizing your belongings and
securing them during Transit but the
Practical packing capacity somehow feels
less than what I am used to despite this
the trunk remains an exceptional choice
for extended trips my takeaway is that I
used to manage 30 days of clothing in
just carryon so perhaps I’m over packing
slightly at the moment the trunk has
been a welcome invitation to minimize my
packing though not by much it footprint
feels much more compact than the usual
check luggage I used during my sabatical
last year yet it offers a robust build
and thoughtful features that cater to
the needs of serious Travelers seeking
style durability and A Touch of Elegance
not only am I making the trunk my
default check luggage but I’m also
planning to purchase another one in the
conak and gray colorway to have as my
Main
Luggage as I was traveling to Spain in
April I had to prepare for the quite
variable weather of the Season
especially in tarfa located at the
southernmost tip of Europe tarfa is
uniquely affected by four different wind
currents making it one of the windiest
places it’s a spot where you can
experience warm days cold nights windy
conditions and even rain all of which I
encountered within just a few weeks
here’s what I packed for my month long
stay trousers six pairs in total three
jeans two chinos plus the Comfort
trousers I wore on the Travel Day shirts
five long sleeves two linen two cotton
and a flannel worn on the Travel day one
short sleeve and one polo shirt t-shirts
five t-shirts including a thicker
flannel t-shirt layers in outerwear one
fi sha neck cardigan one crew neck
pullover fre jackets including a
lightweight Bell staf Ripple shell
jacket a heavier suede jacket for windy
nights and a linen Blazer worn on the
Travel day shorts and athletic wear one
pair of casual shorts one pair of
swimming shorts two pairs of gym shorts
and two gym t-shirts Footwear two pairs
of trainers rugged Chelsea boots worn on
the Travel day espadas and flip-flops
undergarments 10 days worth of underwear
and socks and four undershirts all of my
clothes except for what I wore on the
Travel day fit into the trunk along with
a larger than usual do kit it was a
tight squeeze and the total weight came
to 23 kg to meet British Airways weight
restrictions I shifted the suede jacket
to my car friedrick Caron X bring the
trunk’s weight to just under 23
[Music]
kg the K friedrick trunk is priced at
£595 which in my opinion is quite
competitive compared to other premium
Brands KL Fredick offers international
shipping you can find a link to purchase
the trunk in the description of this
video I believe the trunk is an
excellent addition to Carl friederick
lineup in terms of my own personal
aesthetic and how I prefer to carry my
luggage the trunk has quickly become my
new favorite moving forward it will be
my main piece of luggage for my travels
it’s proven itself to be well suited for
month-long trips accommodating a diverse
range of clothing needed for varied
climates from thick jackets to light
linen its capacity and the amount I was
able to pack demonstrates its
versatility for different types of
clothing and they’re varying thicknesses
and weights in terms of packing Styles I
consider myself to be in the middle not
a minimalist but not a maximalist either
this suitcase works perfectly for light
Packers and is equally suitable for
those like myself who tend to overpack
slightly it would likely serve well for
2 to 3 weeks for those who pack a bit
more moreover the trunk instills a
feeling of Timeless Adventure a
sentiment I cherish in all my
Journeys overall I absolutely love this
suitcase not only can I confidently
recommend it but I’m really looking
forward to using it on all of my travels
this year and you’ll see that featured
in my

FROM CARL FRIEDRIK:
“A heritage-inspired rolling trunk ideal for trips of up to 3 weeks. The deep main compartment makes packing large and irregular-sized items a breeze. Retractable dividers and three complimentary packing cubes allow you to stack and compartmentalise your load.”
