First Towing Experience With The New Motorhome
[Music]
okay right so I’ve got the car hooked up
to the new van just going to take it for
a little toe just make sure everything’s
all right got the Breakaway cable on
there the detachable toe bar with the
green showing hopefully that should be
good on the uh electrics I’ve got to put
a a um a s pin uh adapter cuz I got a 13
pin socket on there so that’s on
there and uh all ready to give it a go
Jenn’s going to check the lights for me
check we can see in the rear viiew
camera it’s a little bit Misty there I
think I have to check that my just be a
bit dirty and then normally what I do is
I try and do it in the same sequence so
indicators he actually gives me a thumbs
up the other
way
yep okay and
brakes okay and lights the other
thing sometimes difficult to see in the
Sun
yeah giv us a thumbs up I’m thinking the
display is a bit Misty but it’s still
got the plastic cover on the
lens they try and turn that
off oh dear no wonder it was a bit Misty
just going to take it for a long drive
around the around the block um things I
want to check is no um error messages or
anything cuz obviously got electronic
everything these
days um want check that the indicators
work which they seem to the car at the
back is breaking which it seems to be
and they got an error message there was
interesting said check right hand
indicator indicator was going maybe I
haven’t plugged it in fully have another
check in a minute the binging is from
his satf cuz they’re in the 30 I’m doing
27 seems to be following us all right
I’m going to unplug the old saf the
other thing I want to make sure is the
tire power for the car works I haven’t
fitted the tire pal on the van yet I’m
not sure I’m going to do it because it’s
already got built-in TPMS the van but I
need the tire P to work on the car it’s
giving me tire pressures and all the
tires at the moment so that’s good yeah
braking seems to be working fine the
brakes on this van are much much better
than the previous van it’s probably the
heavier chass the probably the larger
brakes and they do seem to contribute
more to the brakin than the car used to
if you see what I mean we got Road works
up here so that’s why I was stopping
someone’s always digging up something
goodness s I’m going through I’m just
checking the trip meter I haven’t reset
the uh trip a meter so that’s got most
of this Vans mileage on and that says
26.8 m per gallon and that’s without
Towing obviously so I’d expect it to be
about 24 or something like that if I’m
towing the car but we’ll see on a long
journey got these little fluming
roundabouts so again the the steer ing
power steering on this makes it so much
easier there we go the other thing to
say is I’ve got a much better view of
the car if I get a chance I’ll show you
that because the rear view camera is
pointed quite a bit lower than the old
one but can actually see the tow the
towing frame and the car so that’s good
do wish people would signal a bit
earlier don’t signal when you’re on the
roundabout signal before you get to the
roundabout that said you should never um
trust an indicator you should always see
where the car’s going before you before
you commit to the uh maneuver
interesting I got a little squeak from
the back brake which I also had the
previous fan as well so there you go
indicators seem to be working okay got a
few things loose in the garage but
doesn’t feel to be struggling at all
pulling the car and I noticed it’s a
little bit longer to change up so it’s
obviously working on it but uh obviously
it’s diff it’s different when you’ve got
an automatic cuz it makes all the
decisions for you I probably would have
have held on to some of the gears a
little bit longer there there is an
option to change the power mode now
where you going put it on power power
yeah it gets up to 40 quite easily yeah
I mean I find it very easy it’s not uh
not a problem Towing the car the reason
I wanted to check the towing of the car
is I’m taking the van into Todds on
Saturday have a few things looked at
there’s not it’s not not Mega things c
one thing they spotted but I got about
four things my things really things I
could probably do myself to be honest
but it’s under warranty so why not so
I’m going to take it to them on Saturday
leave it with them a couple of days and
let them sorted out we haven’t had the
sorry just concentrate on this we
haven’t had the wiring loom for the dcdc
converter back yet so they’re not going
to do that yet I’ve still got the
lithium battery in the back which will
fit in due course but yeah I’m very
pleased with it obvious haven’t been up
to Motorway speeds but I don’t see it
could be a problem there we go so you
found this interesting give us a thumbs
up and if you haven’t already please
subscribe yeah that’s the view of the
car I’ve got which is pretty good

Looks good Bob. Very wise to to a trial run with the tow car before starting a tour 👍🏻🙂 Trev
Great for getting a ride home when dropping off the van when you're alone. 😮
Glad you're liking the the new van Bob, particularly the auto gearbox – the whole driving experience seems much smoother than previously.
Is the fuel consumption in the region you expected whilst towing Bob?
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Bob, I notice some buttons or switches on the back of the steering wheel at 3 and 9 oclock. What are they? Or am i being dim? 😅
Well done Bob, you make it look easy 🙂
Also Bob, what series is this Ducato cab. Im getting mine in a few weeks. Hopefully😂
Hi Bob, can you tell me why you’ve put your registration on the Tow car? I’ve been told that you do not need to take the registration off your car because you are the legal owner of that car just try and find out if that’s true or not, but a lot of people have told me that you don’t need to change your plate to the same registration as the Motorhome
Fantastic Video. Well Done.
Enjoy the new van!
Lovely motorhome Bob Have you thought of towing a caravan Lot less hassle
You look very at ease and comfortable driving your new van Bob 🙂 How is she handling? Does it take long to rig the A-Frame up, electrics and other fixings? When is your next vacation to try the A-Frame and fuel economy?? Take care Bob and Jenny.
The brakes are larger because it’s the auto Bob, our new one is the same. How are you finding the electric steering it took some getting used to for me (we have the same engine/box) we’re getting around 27.5 mpg
I always get mixed up with towing! I assume after watching your vlog it’s automatic can tow a manual! And not the other way around! And now you have automatic m/h is the towing weight more less or exactly the same…sorry about 1001 questions lol but I’ve got a swift escape 674 2022 and thinking of towing my second car a smartfour manual 👍
Glad you are happy with it and the tow car works well. When we changed ours from a Kontiki on a Fiat to an Inveco the van would not switch off! Some feed back from the car, apparently this happens on Ivecos but LNB Trailers gave the advice and Southdown's electricians soon sorted it out, all good now. Sha and Alan
Hi Bob we have the 9 speed auto. You can switch to manual if needed though the auto box seems spot-on. We are managing 29 to 31 mpg.
The fuel saving setting wouldn't take us up one hill in Cornwall 😂 I leave it on normal.
Well done Bob a great video and glad you are happy with the van and the automatic transmission I have also recently made a similar change and I agree have found automatic so much easier including around town I wouldn’t go back now! All the best to you Jenny and poppy Daniel
