Saigon is HECTIC! (First impressions of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam)

all right we’re back in Southeast Asia
and we are here in Saigon Vietnam hoi
Min you in Theo Baby First Impressions a
lot of interesting smells okay some of
these smells are a bit what the [ย __ย ]
kind of smells you know they’re not all
great smells but one thing’s for sure
this city is known for its food
definitely one of the biggest highlights
there’s food stalls food stands
everywhere and most of the food is going
to be street food if you go to Vietnam
have to try this one it’s going to be
local vendors on the street with tiny
stands that pop up for a few hours every
day you got to catch them there at the
right time you can find incredible meals
here for less than a dollar and they’re
everywhere spread across the city a lot
of them are not on Google Maps but we’re
going to find these places we’re going
to be working on our squats out here
getting low for the food sitting on
those tiny plastic stool I definitely
got to work on my hip flexors I’m
definitely SI give me your best asan
Squad we are for sure going to do some
tours I really want us to do a tour of
the makong Delta I want to do a food
tour maybe on the back of someone else
scooter so I don’t have to worry about
you know making decisions on the road
and there’s some great museums here as
well the war remnants Museum that talks
about the Vietnam War as well as the
French Indochina War I want to learn
more about that to give us more context
of the city and its history and the NTI
the NTI here you know on paper this city
is a city of 9 million people but I just
got done talking to somebody and they’re
like no no it’s more like 15 million if
you count all the surrounding areas so
it’s
busy the city is so vibrant and and so
alive and I will say it comes more alive
at night as soon as I say 5 600 p.m.
comes around the cities fill up even
more and it’s buzzing and I’m not
surprised because it’s much cooler at
night during the day it’s so hot and
humid you don’t really want to do
anything but stay in the AC so we’re
going to explore and do as much as we
can enough said let’s get out there
let’s go let’s go find some stuff
[Music]
welcome to
[Music]
Vietnam I’m so happy you are driving
Willie this makes me so nervous the way
they cut in with traffic is so crazy so
Nathan has booked us a food tour and uh

about this noodle are the
BR I burn it for more than a hour
wow it has sweetness on the right
side oh it’s so

you and it’s represent for banana sticky
rice and GRE
wow it’s like chewy a little Chewy from
the rice banana sweet the sauce has a
little bit of saltiness creamy you also
have some like a little bit of is that
nuts s seed and peanut wow if you go to
Vietnam have to try this one okay are so
tasty
so making another food

that’s sweet you know the I told the
name is sug again but the sweetness is
not confirm the sugar it’s naturally
swissness wow yeah so it’s a really
healthy drink they squeeze it the
machine they squeeze and yeah you know
how to make it yeah I love it yes look
at close you see the SM no no qu pork
[Applause]

what that’s really good I love
qu this one is the rice paper the rice

on it we have cheese with have pork with
have swim oh no swim where my
swim another food stop I’m getting so
full dude wow wow trying ban this is
basically FL with chocolate on top
chocolate on top and ice and syrup maybe
or caramel type
oh that’s good oh my God it’s so sweet
so rich saon happens to be the biggest
city in Vietnam and the city is
organized by districts and Vietnamese
they’re called Quan so we’re going to be
hitting the Quan
here most people that are going to be
visiting coim Min or Saigon they’re
going to be visiting i’ say 1 through
seven mainly District 1 District 2
District 3 District Four District 5
District Six district 7 they all
represent different things for the city
you can find their own China toown you
can find their Korea Town you can find
where all the touristic monuments are
more in District One downtown where a
lot of the markets are we are standing
out in front of CH or I [ย __ย ] that up
we are standing out in front of chenang
Market I know I probably butchered the
name but this is definitely the most
frequented Market in the city it’s in
the Heart of the City in District 1 this
is where most tourists will come as well
so it is very touristy we’ve walked
through it before and I got to say the
they’re pretty aggressive vendors in
there okay they will hassle you and and
get you to spend money even when you
don’t need to you got to stand your
ground yes we’ll see how it is at this
time of night it’s a little later in the
evening I don’t know if it’s going to be
busy or not but it is Friday so let’s
just see how it goes I am in the market
for one thing and that’s a hat but I’m
not going to seem overzealous here but
one thing we are rather enthusiastic
about is Brooklyn Bedding today sponsor
so I am Aid
sleeper and I didn’t know that my
mattress was the culprit for the
majority of my hip
pain but all that improved when we got a
Brooklyn Bedding mattress 3 years ago I
noticed a huge change in how my body
felt when I woke up the next day like a
real freaking bed we even used it in our
trailer this bed is awesome and I love
that we can expect to have quality
consistent sleep when we’re home
Brooklyn Bedding has a ton of mattresses
to choose from and they own their own
Factory in the US so they’re able to
offer super high quality mattresses
without the luxury price tag they offer
120 night sleep trial free shipping and
a 10-year warranty so if you want to
make the switch just like we did head on
over to Brooklyn bing.com onal travel
and use our code hon Ral travel to get
25%
[Music]
off there it says fixed price but I’ve
heard otherwise they shut up wow they
have so many pretty fabric I think you
can get a dress made yeah make dress in
one day make suit in one
day
leand I will look let’s
see that’s a good looking
hat out the calculator actually the my
you see day my will here but I will do
for
you I know but I I I don’t I don’t need
the
hat so maybe I I think and then I come
back I walk okay give me a deal okay
what price is puted me at like 16 USD
now for me I’m more like 5 USD
only
you let me think let me think I walk and
I come back I walk come back you okay
with it okay 125 all right okay all
right we’ll do it for 125 thank you good
F
good all right have a good day yes thank
you look I don’t want to be walking
around with a big wallet you know I know
it didn’t take long but I got them down
from from 16 USD to 5 which is I think a
fair price I grew up you know my mom’s
have Cambodian I I grew up going to the
your mom full Cambodian I mean full
Cambodian you’re half K yeah I’m half
and uh I went to the a lot of those
local markets in Cambodia and they start
you off really high and he wouldn’t have
sold it if he wasn’t going to be happy
thank you guys thank you thank
you oh wow we got some nice North Face
Backpacks too that’s some sunglasses
here actually looking for glasses am I a
Shopaholic chran you dude oh my God you
got the fing
BB oh look at these shoes wow you don’t
want just looking for now
hello you want to walk this
way good material yeah what do you want
for you
looking we just got here let’s walk
first and then maybe we somebody already
got me yes what do you want just
looking I didn’t want anything but then
I got a hat so I don’t
know I do for you goodbye for you only
for you we all know all these brands are
counterfeit okay I mean no let’s be I
mean this is it looks pretty legit I was
definitely looking if there were like a
double O situation or double eye you
know sometimes they get carried look at
that Gucci the quality feels honestly
incredible yeah wow
not hungry now but I will look
something what is
this you’re not eating
juices all right we’re going we’re going
for it there she goes oh yeah so she
gets some of the green some of the
bottom one over there I’ve turned the
camera on Olivia because I know this is
much more her Jam than mine yeah this is
my jam for sure so there’s probably like
I don’t know five six seven different
types of jelly in here with ice and I’m
assuming this is coconut milk freaky
looking I ain’t going to lie dude oh my
God but what I love is they give you the
straw and they give you the spoon so you
can like chew on
[Music]
everything oh my God what’s like the
underlying flavor cuz it’s like such a
mixture coconut coconut again coconut oh
my god this is my dream oh
wow all right we are on a super unique
tour of the makong river we got got on a
speed boat this morning and just have
been blazing along the makong seeing how
the locals live and work and interact
with the makong we’re actually going to
make it all the way to the makong Delta
so far what I love about this tour is we
haven’t seen a single other tourist it’s
literally just been us it’s been hello
what’s up hello hello what’s up very
good very good card
game I like this is what I’m talking
about hanging out with the local people
nice to meet
you and uh yeah just a local market
hello
hello and uh yeah they um it’s just
they’re just everyone’s so friendly and
I just feel like this is the most
authentic way to go we still are about
halfway through right now we stopped at
this local town to see a local market
and then go check out a pagota as well
so uh can’t wait to see how the rest of
the day goes
[Music]
[Music]
big boy
[Laughter]
still heavy it is oh this is so bizarre
all right we just finished going through
the war remnants Museum here in District
3 of Saigon and all I got to say is I
learned a ton there are 13 exhibits over
three floors with tons of images and
explanations in English that basically
can guide you through all the steps of
the first Indochina War
and the Vietnam War and it was just very
eye opening to be honest I didn’t pay
enough attention in history class to
really retain a lot of information on on
the Vietnam War so this was the most
in-depth education for me another thing
too is they have exhibits both inside
and outside you’ve got a lot of Us
helicopters military planes military
tanks howitzers flamethrowers and what
probably amazed me the most was the
photographers and documentarian during
the war that risk their lives to capture
the real story on the ground there are
so many photos in there that just shake
you to your core like it’s graphic it’s
it’s hard to watch honestly it’s hard to
watch without you know feeling that
uneasiness inside about the brutality of
War I couldn’t recommend this more uh
this is something that you definitely
got to do if you’re here in in Saigon or
hoi it’ll definitely shape your
perception of the rest of your
experience in time traveling through
Vietnam and just give you so much more
cultural context to this country and the
resiliency of its people so definitely
enjoyed this it was yeah like I said
440,000 dong which is like $1.75 so what
I also like about that is they make it
very accessible to anyone regardless of
income background and everything
everybody can go and visit and learn
something so definitely check it out the
Vietnamese were involved in two
back-to-back Wars that lasted a total of
30 years the first Indochina war against
France from 1946 to 1954 and the second
indo-china war against the United States
from 1954 to
1975 the Cold War tensions between
Russia and the United States were
escalating during this time and the
Americans feared communism would spread
if Vietnam became communist so Vietnam
was divided into North and South the
Communist vietcom controlling the North
and the US occupying the South and
because the United States relied heavily
on air bombing the North Vietnamese went
underground and resorted to a strategy
they had used against the French bye-bye
see you in
Cambodia we’re here at the coochie
tunnels and these tunnels started being
made back in 1948 it took them 20 years
to make these they dug over 150 M
underground to combat the Americans from
the outskirts of saon all the way to the
Cambodian border and today we’re going
inside oh my god dude holy crap
first coochie first cooch
tunnel wow this is the tunnel yeah okay
so I might not be doing the tunnels my
claustrophobia is definitely [ย __ย ]
with me today what the heck na I know
dude like you can’t even see that it
goes that way I’m going across now nope
meet you on the other side all right I’m
leaving this open so I have some light
oh here got a bit nervous cuz she
doesn’t like tight spaces and I got to
say I see what she means this is really
tight oh wow
movens up into a little room
here
okay oh
wow if the big Dutchman can do it yeah
then I can fit as
well
okay okay okay now from here to there
around uh 100 m okay okay and the tunnel
a little bit
smaller I think you okay right are you
right byebye bye-bye see you on the
other
side my
head oh dude this is like downward
slanted oh my
goodness oh it’s stuck oh my th the
light oh my God way more narrow than I
anticipated man we’re going to have to
hit it from an angle on
this oh dude this is narrow holy [ย __ย ]
I’m
sweating holy crap much supp fit
[Music]
to oh yeah
thank you
okay oh my God oh my
godo dude you’re drifting okay we made
it okay stranger came here didn’t know
what on the top what happened one two
tap
oh oh my gosh
happy
hour this is Louis this is like the
party area at
night welcome
[Music]
to
volan bro this is so crazy dude her
shirt says money first love
later I’ve never experienced something
like this before I feel like in Vegas
it’s not even this crazy it’s a lot of
people shoving their menu in your face a
little bit and you got a lot of dancers
it’s just basically like half a mile
long Street of just so many different
bars if you’re in for a crazy night you
can go to a crazy night questionable
massage parlor yeah that’s true I’m not
going to lie I mean I don’t know what
the regulations are out here but
we are in the heart of hoochi Min right
now and this is just awesome for the
year of the dragon they have made this
whole Center area wrapped around in uh
dragons this is so cool wow and it moves
oh my God it moves crazy huh see these
two people that are standing like
statues over here it’s a good vibe
though a lot of people just like Street
food Street stand snacking behind this
square is a building that I don’t know
what building it is yet maybe it’s some
big governmental building but it’s lit
up and looking just like Disneyland this
place is a Vibe so we’re doing a Hop On
Hop off bus they do basically one hour
where you get to go all around hot men
and uh you don’t get off you just stay
on for the hour but we just saw the
water for the first time and like the
city skyline with all the lights and
it’s reminding me so much of Hong Kong
so many businesses so many lights so
many different boats going around it’s
beautiful Vietnamese ice coffee salted
coffee coconut coffee egg
coffee all right I’m trying my first
salted coffee they made it in 2 seconds
let’s
see bro I love how much sugar people in
Vietnam put into their coffees like this
is even way sweeter than a Frappuccino
from Starbucks like this is a whole
different level of sweet they the huge
dollop of like a cream I think this is
salted cream I got to try it just by
itself I asked for a
spoon the foam is salty people pull up
on their scooters literally in front
they don’t get off the scooter they
order the coffee they do the money
exchange and they’re on their way and
right now it’s like 9:00 p.m. so why are
they drinking coffee at 9:00 p.m.
because it’s a dessert this is a it’s a
treat I couldn’t recommend it more
though because it’s delicious you have
too many of these you get diabetes
though all right we just sat down at
this place called Kong Cafe Cafe is
spelled pH Cafe and they are known for
their coconut coffee coconut coffee is
basically black coffee mixed with
condensed milk and coconut milk Blended
together kind of like Frappuccino
fashion you know just a nice ice drink
this looks pretty spectacular it’s
spilling over the edges like I barely
touched it and just all this coffee came
spilling out going to give it a go here
holy crap they do like their sugar out
here in vml I got to say I mean this is
a dessert for me this is a super sweet
super sweet it’s a treat the coconut
gives it sort of different dimension
that’s what I like about it it’s it’s
coffee coconut and I like it already
more than a traditional Vietnamese
coffee that typically comes even sweeter
than
[Music]
this thank you so much
oh my goodness dude that looks insane
it’s basically like a rich espresso
topped with this like mering like fluff
that you get by mixing condensed milk
and egg yolks together and you whip it
and then you get this kind of like
fluffy light texture on top supposedly
it’s also really good for
you that first sip I didn’t even get to
the espresso look how rich that is O you
can see I got to the espresso below this
is one of my favorite coffee experiences
of of all time it’s almost like a melted
vanilla ice cream on top like
marshmallow like almost marshmallowy
yeah again not too sweet that’s what I
really enjoy about this oh my
goodness I’m going to be coming back
here it’s so good it’s so good oh thank
[Music]
you wow
thank you so much it looks so beautiful
wow you came over very
nicely okay welcome to
Cambodia is this non pen yeah you need
the to too
[Music]

Olivia and Nathan here! Saigon, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh) was WILD. Easily the loudest and most hectic city we’ve ever been to. Incredible street food, markets, museums, the Mekong Delta, crazy coffee options, and over 9 millions scooters.

  1. Firstly, 'What the Heck!' 'Holy Crow' 'Omg' Olivia, you are a brave girl! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I had to look away, lol. Anyhow, love watching your shows. โค

  2. Fun entertaining video. I love you guys arenโ€™t phony and your personalities shine! You definitely deserve more subscribers. Come to think it, so do I ๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. Been with you guys since almost the beginning, and you've gotten soooo good at this. The edits, music, etc. are awesome. I appreciate the time, and effort you put into this. I always leave smiling. Thanks, Nathan, for the breakdown on the museum, I could feel the weight in your explanation – well done.

  4. Just flew out of there after 7 weeks in the country. Itโ€™s the only place in SE Asia, I actually got hit by a scooter in a crosswalk with the walk signal. Other than that, loved it. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  5. Great series coming up,
I wonder how would people cross the streets
You probably walked out of that tunnel with back pain afterwards lol

    Cheers

  6. Great video guys. Those tunnels looked nuts..! So gutted I never visited Vietnam whilst I was living in Thailand but it's definitely on my travel list! Keep safe chaps ๐Ÿ‘

  7. Word of advice; avoid Ben Thanh Market. It's a rip-off even many locals stay away from. Another place to avoid is Bui Vien street. Great place to get ripped off or poisoned by fake alcohol. If you go, be very careful. The rest of Saigon is great! I've lived in District 7 (Phu My Hung or Korean town) for nearly 20 years and wouldn't change a thing.

  8. All types of food are basically served together. If you like your coffee stronger, more bitter, or richer, just tell the staff to make it less sweet, and the dishes are similar. So, if there are foods you can't use, please tell the store to avoid that, everyone will be happy and no one will be upset with you.. wish you a happy trip in Vietnam Our male

  9. I'm Cambodian and my wife is straight anglo American, and we agreed that Vietnam is where we will retire. Love the food, and diversity of the place. Great video. Just turned me into a subscriber.

  10. 'Sร€I Gร’N' 4EVER OK! no fkin hcm and the cu chi tunnels are mostly fake built and exaggerated after the war for propaganda purpose and rip off clueless tourists

  11. The situation of price gouging for tourists in Cho Ben Thanh is still going on, not only in Saigon, especially in the Northern region like Hanoi, you should consider and avoid. ๐Ÿซ‚

  12. It's not Saigon anymore. Saigon is the capital city of Republic of South Vietnam/ the Pearl of Asia in 1960s – has been invaded by northern communist monkeys in 1975 and changed its name as Hobacho city today which is a messy/polluted/ chaotic/nasty and dirty place.
