Retiring in Spain: No debt, no worries | Aussie’s inspiring story
Subscribe and set π Β» https://7news.link/YTSubscribe | The standard of living for pensioners in Australia is so, so hard. Which is why, for some, retiring overseas – on a full Australian pension – is a brillianbt option. Norah Ohrt lived most of her life in Perth, Western Australia. As a single woman approaching retirement, Norah realised that if she chose to stay in Perth, with her modest means, she would likely live in poverty. So, she investigated how to retire overseas – and found that by moving her whole life to the south of Spain she could afford to live where she wanted, and how she wanted, and in incredible style. This is how Norah did it. Portions of this story originally aired on Sunday Night in 2019. Now, we haver released it as a full documentary. 7NEWS reporter Anegla Cox travelled to Martos, in Andalusia, to meet Norah and see her incredible home and meet her friends.

Thankyou very much for information, Good Bless you β€
Great video and general information. I would love to make contact with this lady Norah via email for extra information. My partner died and has left me with a retirement dilemma as a single soon to be pensioner.
Again thank you.
PS agree totally the shops should be closed Sundays and little respect for older people. Get your Aussie friends to bring your favourite toothpaste!!
NEVER trust comment disablers.
I live in a town in South Australia and it's the most boring place I've ever lived. Many of the houses are below standard I paid a lot of money to repair the house I have it 18 years yet I may make 3,000 dollars if I sold it. I want out!!! Its boring.
Where in Spain is she living? Would love to know. Spain or Portugal for me.
Australians live in many Countries. Malta is magnificent too.
Where abouts in Spain are you living in Spain? I'm very interested. βπΉπ» I went skiing there a place called Formigal I was young and I loved it.
She's now a citizen of Spain or not
Costs of living the song of day and night here.
I did love this interview , was so adorable and respected
The Australian dream is now leaving austalia π
Great story. I have about 25 years before I retire, but guaranteed I will retire in another country and not Australia for the same reasons in this interview. My choice would be a an south asian country like Philippines, Thailand, cambodia or vietnam.
I am 55, active, single and even I am planning for where to settle in the next few years…. just looking up houses in this town, amazing….. Ive been looking at houses in small towns that need work that are 200k to 300k, and I can buy in Spain the same for 20K eu, 30k aus, crazy, and they accept my staff / weiller……. love it… cheers for that heads up
She reminds me of Mrs doubtfire
Australians are being pushed out overseas to afford retirement. No longer the lucky country
I love Spain. Beautiful cities, great food and culture.
Well done gaming the system and finding a way to leech of Australian tax payers to have that consumption show up in another country. Good job on robbing local Aussies to be able to earn an income providing you those goods and services and also the government who won't collect any income tax from those you are buying goods and services from.

Great on her , she had the courage and made the efforts to learn a new language and culture , it keeps her young in mind and spirit..i am French from the south of France, very Latin culture too , after 38 years in Australia but i must alas admit that Γ¬f Australia is still a great opportunity for young people, but when you retired and alone , it is very isolated for single retired woman , you become invisible, not a critique just my personal observation and opinion , and Many Australian family are spread out so far from each others that old single people are often alone, for exemple flying to perth from Brisbane , return can be as expensive that flying to Europe . Be aware that Spain , like France, each area , each part of spain are very differents from each others ,and maybe some parts are not so "assertive " as this person finds, as Spain has a history the last century of political opression under Franco dictatorship , so older people maybe alas had to keep their opinion for themselves and not revolt , and some others parts were very conservative and catholic, BUT the younger generation of Spanish people are very assertive …for me, being French, i find Australian people" not so "assertive π , but then, i come from a culture of very opinionated and assertive people ( to say the least π π .. ) well no flying to France atm , all airline on strike, and last months it was the trains ππ…i wish her the best , she has a great positive attitude ..
I find it fascinating that she got a visa to live there with an Aussie passport
Interesting… but she can afford all her living expenses with an Australian pension. …My Spanish pensioners friends sometimes struggle.
Would like to see an update on this lady moving to Spain. She mentions reading an article about Spain's healthcare in 2020. So, wondering how old is this interview?
Have to say the olive farms in Spain look boring. There are plenty of beautiful and affordable small towns in Australia. The Brits moved there in large numbers twenty years ago. But many of them returned to Britain because they became targets of gangsters. I remember when we left Britain, the movers told us that their largest group of customers of immigration service were from Britain to Australia. That was after the disillusioned wave of immigrants to Spain.
In 2024,don't set new year financial goals without consulting a financial adviser.there expertise ensure a solid plan for success.Building wealth involves developing good habits like regular putting money away in intervals for solid investments.
As a single middle aged woman
You give me so much inspiration to live a better life, put back into a community that you loved in Australia and participate in your new community!
People who see the negative in this story are ones who donβt understand how small businesses works
How much small business puts into the tax system in Australia
I hope more retirees watch this as it is a wonderful story of how to retire with dignity and respect
My friends came home from Porthgal as when health issues arose the Portugese system was impossible for them. I hope this lady stays well!
πππ very smart woman. You deserve and choose to be happy. Congratulations π₯
Aussie government sponsored content(?):
Gentle ( not subtle) propaganda to lure seniors out of Australia (increase in housing stock, lower state medical burden, vociferous peaky voting block gone).
This is what sprung to my mind as a Canadian and what could have been a 5 min puff piece is really a 40 min infomercial on getting the oldies to warm to clearing out.
This has to be a oaid government infomercial. It so precisely covers every aspect of this gals big move . On and on about how the medical service …. either spain paid or Aussie or they split the cost of this ad. Spain needs to fill old villages with people and oz needs to empty theirs.
Do you feel like a well to do woman? Minute 24:45
