Greek island of Skiathos, abandoned monastery on Skithos island in Greece. Let’s travel to Greece and let’s visit the famous Greek island of Skiathos. We are going to walk to the abandoned monastery of Panagia Kehria which is built on a hill in the homonymous bay. It is located on the northwestern side of the island of Skiathos and about eight (8) km from Skiathos town. It was founded in the 16th century.
Panagia Kehria Monastery is a monastery with old murals and carved wooden iconostasis. It is surrounded by lush vegetation and a small courtyard where you can enjoy the beautiful views.
This monastery is surrounded by pines and olive trees that grow and increasingly surround this abandoned monastery, probably one of the reasons for which it inspires a suggestive charm. The most characteristic side, however, is the lantern of the dome that exudes light blue colors, giving beautiful shades to admire.
Inside the Monastery of Panagia Kehrias there are impressive frescoes and incredible building works! Although it is an isolated monastery, it is worth visiting due to its important relics that are being hosted and in order to enjoy the magnificent views.
Skiathos, a Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea, is part of the Sporades archipelago. It’s best known for its beaches and buzzing, youth-driven nightlife scene.
