Further & Farther Episode 2.5 Doha & Uttoxeter

[Music] he [Music] [Applause] he [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] n [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] he [Music] back at the airport and on my way to the UK Manchester going for a birthday figured since I’m over to this part of the world surprise birthday people it’s her 60th so I think it’d be a good surprise so I’m going to grab a flight over to Manchester which Western World I’m not really Keen of considering the way the governments are run now in the Western Europe US Canada Australia New Zealand but I’m going just for a birthday Angela that’s you [Music] oh my goodness it’s so you first get your bearings I’m from a western world and I’m I’ve been in other parts of the world so much more that Western World Travel Western Europe uh New Zealand Australia Canada us it’s just so foreign to me sort out my bearings and here here airport change houses are really bad for change so I have to go somewhere else to get it I mean it is really bad in other parts of the world Airport have been better I just forget of course now um I have to I found the train station I’m at the train station in Manchester I’m going toxit her and meet up with Claudia and Angela but yeah like Western World Travel is like so foreign to me it’s like culture shop I just realized something I’m walking around asking uh where the platforms are and where to buy my ticket like where do you want to go and I was like uh and you Tex I I could say like in Burkina Faso Wago or Antananarivo in Madagascar but I cannot even say words in English in the UK come on I’m in the UK and I’m like uh I have to look it up and I had to show it to him oh yeah you texted I I don’t even know if I’m saying it right I’m probably not so I that one I’m going have to apologize I’m speaking English and I can’t going to say it again Wago is a lot easier Naro a lot easier than where I’m actually going so I mashed that up right sorry UK no disrespect [Music] honestly she’s singing happy birthday yeah you [Music] oh my God look at this oh beautiful looking fabulous 60 and fabulous oh I like that lovely it’s beautiful happy birthday you look like you’ve been up for hours she didn’t look like she’s been asleep right no exactly [Music] that’s blue in the in the fridge it is what you were saying about the the experience you you can’t describe it really can you unless you’ve unless you’ve done it and you come across these things you can’t really relate exactly the feeling that you get that’s the thing and that’s from traveling it is absolutely yeah oh yes but I doubt my traveling Days Are Over Now no they might not it’s all relative on which distance you’re going in that yeah yeah yeah well I’m come get my fingers cross but um I think at my age now I’m beginning to think Henry but no and this is skeleton pardon and you this is skeleton Coast that is just just the skeleton Coast entrance yes was just here okay and and it was just it’s just those actually if you put that those two at the end there but slightly at a different angle the one in the front yes that that’s the picture but they were up on the top of the um uh um Ridge so they’re lower down now but they actually were the ones real were higher up but that was the picture of it beautiful anyway I travel everywhere like everywhere safe until like the place proves you wrong um India was the only place where I like had the didn’t think that that I thought India would be unsafe to go so like there’s a lot of like really high rates of harassment like rape like you feel like a lot of pressure so I’d only booked to go to India or plan to go to India for two weeks One Week by myself and one week with my dad so that’s like oh I’ll have my dad there like that be I’ll be like safe right um arrived in India and I was like completely wrong like so safe like everyone was so lovely not a single bit of harassment like everyone looks after you and I was really got it that i’ only got two weeks there so I really wanted to stay for longer um but that’s that’s why I really want to go back cuz like there’s so much so much to see so much to see and Deli lad of people hate Deli it’s like really they’re like oh it’s busy it smells it’s dirty like it’s all of those things that’s like what makes it magical exactly but I think that’s probably when people ask about traveling they they’ll say what is it like I said well I don’t want to tell you what it’s like cuz that’s from my standpoint exactly everyone will have a different experience yeah cuz they could go down a different street 100% And it’s how you like there’s lots of like tuck Tu drivers whatever that might try and like scam you or try and whip you off but like you’re told that like you’re if you if you Google or if you just literally ask anyone at the border they’ll be like be wary like of that which is not to beware of not to trust people it’s just if something sounding oh that’s a bit funny probably is a bit funny just like challenge question it right now before traveling do you think you had that or have you always had that where you say every place is going to prove me one way or the other Yeah the more you travel the more you have that op okay so before would you have thought that like or would you been like oh these people say it’s this way or just by cuz I I I I mean I barely know you but it seems like you’re like well I’m willing like whatever yeah or have you like through the education of traveling it’s like n I’m GNA figure it out myself about good bad and different I think so I like I’m very trusting whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing I think you roll with it yeah you you recognize you can look at a person and feel they’re good or bad and stay with it yeah I think I’m I haven’t had a negative experience yet so until I have a negative experience I’ve got no reason not to trust people I’m like the first impression um but the more you travel the more open you get like obiously now I’ve been to India like that I’ve always I’ve always tried to tell myself the mindset of like everyone’s safe until it Prov you wrong I still had that prejudice about going to India but now I’ve been there and proven that prejudice wrong and now Pro like you know I’ve got to think to myself oh like I’m that was wrong like don’t have that prejudice because you don’t know until you go somewhere so there’s nowhere in the world I wouldn’t go to now if I had a chance like doesn’t matter like what kind of place it is I would I would still go if I was given a chance and then if it then Prov me wrong then fair enough I leave I’ve got the option right you’ve given yourself that opportunity to grow learn and I often ask people now where would you not want to go obviously they’re not listening they’ll respond I want to go here here and I’m like no I said where would you not but you saying that is like I’ll go everywhere offered the opportunity I’m going 100% everywhere yeah the only place where I’m like less hant if people are like I want to come here in the UK I’m like well I’ve got some somewhere else to go yes exactly it’s so close let me go somewhere quote unquote far yeah my backyard doesn’t count it’s brilliant when I do that it’s got to be from Grandma cuz I heard her stories like the whole time she’s shown me pictures willingly or unwillingly growing up of all the cool places she’s been so I’m like that I’ve always I’ve always known the world was out there so I’ve always had the opportunity as if you don’t know the world there then like I’m super privileged that I’ve had that the introduction of just words countes cities yeah and it’s doable you can you you can do it it’s a step away yeah everything yeah the decision to move yeah it’s there you just literally like you want to go do something do it don’t hang around wait yeah I think by hanging around and waiting you’re introducing reasons why the excuses yeah make an excuses not but you choose what you do with your time like you might have other pressures that encourage you to do other things but it’s still your time that you to to spend doing you know whatever it is you want to do as long as you got enough as long as you can buy a flight or if you can buy a bus ticket and go by land you can figure the rest out on the way yeah you don’t need anything else might make life easier if you got it true call this up definitely makes it easier yes cuz I remember the first time I was here in England I was hitchhike in weather like this nightm don’t have to yeah you don’t have to wait on the roadside like I’m freezing so told your mom I was sleeping on the streets here but this this kind of weather it was so cold oh gosh it it was just ice cold but you got to do that like you said $10 and you’re like I’m going to spoil myself and then next day I always go to $3 yeah those days are what Travelers do that’s the fun that’s the more fun like and it gets excited then cuz you’re like how little can I spend today yeah how far can I make this like pack that’s another day two days then it turns into a week 100% yeah when you’ve got like the if you got a fin out amount of money like every like if I know I can live off like an average of like I5 a day if I buy something that’s like more than5 I like that’s another day is that thing worth another day on this journey yes or not some things are some things like 100% are worth it some things are not and I remember when I landed in cand De somebody dropped their pen I hand it to her they were from Columbia we were talking and they were saying a nice hotel and I thought this I was like why would you stay in this hotel when you could be traveling for a lot longer for another month with this one night but that’s how you think is like these this is but to them an old person of a background where their incomes constantly flowing he was a writer and literally they were like we don’t think about that yeah and if you got other priorities like I’m sure like if I’m in a position to travel in the future or more than5 a day I’ll probably don’t mind splashing on $10 for 75 so how did I end up here how did you end up end up in your home for your birthday you ended up here because we always knew we were going to meet up it had to be special and um my mom’s desperate to me desperate desperate desperate so when the three of us cuz we always try to send you a photograph of all together the three of us mom we know is everything and I know your mom is everything to you my mom is everything to me Claudia’s grandma is the world to her so we have to share this photo so then we went to the theater and we were sitting there and I said we’re going to have to send it to Henry we’ll send it to Henry and then the mom said oh I wish he was here tell him you should be here so that’s what I did and then you said yes you’d come in a heartbeat you wish you you wish you could something like you’d be there in a heartbeat so I then said right I think I was sitting on my own at this stage and I just thought right that’s it so I thought right I’m going to actually to come my birthday and so we did and here you are and we it All Began because we were trekking together because tracking together Randa in Uganda Randa in Uganda with the gorillas with the gorillas we’ve been in Rwanda for like two 3 days yeah I think like 3 days we gotten like maybe fleu it on the Friday and it was like the Monday or something like you came in and we sat down and we saw cuz it’s only a really small guest house so we like bit sad you watch everyone and people watch and you like try and make up a story about who everyone is I remember satting down and we saw you sat on your laptop and I was like oh new person I like let’s go say hello and then we breakfast came so we did it and then you got up and you went obviously up to the desk to ask like about a trip and up then like oh there’s two ladies going come join them and then next minute we’re like eating the breakfast that just arrived when you’d like left it’s like oh you guys you to the two British ladies that are going on the trip I’m going to come with like oh amazing great really excited yeah because we’ spent 72 hours together and we already sick already felt we needed a little bit more no that’s a little bit hard I certainly wasn’t sick of you but I think Claudia maybe was looking for a little bit more conversation other than with her mother and there’s a I can’t what the first conversation you had what was it well no you sat down about was about luck good no no it was about luck that you didn’t believe in luck um and that you believe in like creating an opportunity and taking opportunity and I was agreeing with you and then I think you left go to the bathroom or something and Mom me she like you and Henry will get on well and now we’re here in the UK here in the UK which is how Travelers travel absolutely yeah and Claudia was just saying she was in Nepal traveling with a guy from Switzerland for about a month y just sat next to each other but that’s how it is the relationships friendships form at such a different level while you’re traveling the intensity of the relationship yeah we live in the Beautiful moment of the world abolutely and now I literally there’s there’s a 60 for her 60 year birthday party last night and um that yes I can’t thank you enough no well so this is going to be a video um and the one even last night bringing up the coffee you don’t mind me putting your bedroom on but got Trav pajamas on there SE for pajamas oh yeah now i’ got my 9 on the WR me up but you had just woken up but you look like you’ve been up for a long time seriously me and my eyes are swollen I can barely open them like I was boxing but that’s the and I’m at her oh and I was in I sleep in the same room yes where Angela was born yes 60 years ago the day I was sleeping in her room and her you’ll tell how your dad how your named so my uh dad so I’m I’m from a farming background and my mom’s a nurse and it was the winter of 1963 and it was a very very very lots of snow and my mom went into labor and the Midwife couldn’t get here so my mom told my dad what he needed to do to deliver me and so my dad delivered me and when um I popped out he just took me in his arms and said now I’ve got my little angel and hence my name is and then turned to Grandma and said oh that was easy just like carving a cow that’s all you care for being a farmer and it’s five generations in this home of 10 acres in the city Kingston is the village yeah Sapp you toxit you toxit you toxit I’ve been most difficult place name yeah in English is the local name now that’s a lot easier is it is it so if you were local no but in the olden days that if if people so like the elderly population now here okay like in the old not not the new generation but it’s it was called o you talk about so even where I work now with stok TR which is that 20 miles away if you say that you live in your tox and if it’s an elderly person they’ll say oh and I’ll say yes yeah it’s a lot easier to say for somebody like me yeah so we’re gonna have to put that in every time we put the same your your voice will come over mine tox lion yes I was able to celebrate meet the family the city and obviously they’re going to be coming to the US or wherever absolutely Miss Claudia is going to be doing speaking around the world probably at some point I do believe that I wouldn’t say that I honestly would not I would not say that if I didn’t believe that cuz you’re creating I I’m not just saying I’m dead serious like you can feel the energy that that somebody’s forging a great path and and I hope you know that like literally uh you’re not going to accept something that you don’t want and you’re going to maneuver around just like getting a Visa some countries are very difficult but people that travel figure it’s not gonna get done unless I get it done and so with you doing what you want to do like when you were up there at the counter yesterday speaking about oh I would like to speak in front of people and yeah I I you can see it so I think it’s get more people seeing the world more people that see the world see culture become more kind more tolerant yes world’s better place down here and then there’s a big Farmhouse here that’s owned by the bson so that’s like Kingston Hall and this used to all be um Stables that they’ve then converted into houses they used to babysit there they were the local Jewelers when I was little these are all new um and then this is down to the Kingston wood and if you look over to the left you might see the odd car that’s the road that we’re going to be going on tomorrow to take you to abber Bromley where Jan is from okay and my dad was um sort of lived a little bit further on in a place called Heatley he was born between here and abber Bromley so this is the wood and I used to ride down here when I was younger and S of gallop through the woods and then come back again and then now this is somewhere where I walk on my own and Max and Claudia and laa of walk down here no I know I had had those boots that you yig f see if [Music] and this is like the newer ofate and then this is where I used to play when I was little on the playing fields and then this is where Max and Flor used to play and we got tennis courts and we played tennis there and the children actually designed this Max and Claudia designed this wooden bit here no kidding yeah they cuz when we first moved up here Martin onto the parish council and there was a com well you know they wanted to try to get children to design it and they didn’t know it was Max and Claudia cuz it was then like entered into something and they yeah they designed it so that’s there wow and yeah these were built by um somebody called Stan Clark and he now um you know gosh he’s got so much building not everywhere he was a like property developer um so the Strawberry Fields and I used to go strawberry picking down there all of that was Strawberry Fields and I used to pick strawberries to earn money um after school and then my very very first job and then a friend she lived at the bottom down there um and we come out at the top that’s such of a loop [Music] [Music] and when I was very little I’m talking about five now Mar was about 5 6 7 something like that Nana used to come and stay with us and in the holidays cuz Mom was working and Martin and I used to go potato picking and we potato picked for the whole day and I would get 50p talk about child lab no kidding 50 P wow back breaking work 75 in these fields here in these fields in here through here in here so I need to go there you go that’s lovely that’s our eyes Smile as well as [Laughter] smile [Music] L and just right now in London took the train from am I going to have to say it you talkx did I say it right probia Angela did I say it right uh so now I’m in London on my way to Heathrow grab a flight but amazing experience to see friends that I made in Wanda and now visiting them in their home for Angela’s 60th birthday hope she doesn’t not mind saying her age but she had it all Plage right so it just goes to show you that people are why Travelers travel people and like Muhammad said football and film bring people together traveling does and leave that civil service at the door and I had a great time here in because I had preconceived notion of oh I’m going to go to a western world and I’m freaking out about it yeah cuz I’m pretty big about not going but I’m so so so so happy please blessed that I just left it I said not people why we travel and yeah beautiful experience the last couple weeks and again I could not more grateful to stop off in Manchester flying into Manchester and meeting up with Angela Claudia celebrating the birthday meeting of her parents amazing amazing experience for the Christmas season [Music] [Music]
