A 24-Hour Journey Through Frankfurt, Germany π©πͺ
welcome to another one of my videos I Alex I’m the wandering Englishman and today you find me in Frankfurt Frankfurt where the hell is Frankfurt Frankfurt of all places the central Financial Hub of German Finance Central Banking and the headquarters to the European Central Bank hence the reason we see the Euro symbol over here this is not the European Central Bank behind me this is actually the Euro Tower it’s actually a tourist destination I believe you could go up there if you wanted to I’m good man thanks here I am right in the middle of Frankfurt surrounded by the numerous skycrapers of Frankfurt first time I was ever here was 23 years ago showing my age here some of these skyscrapers existed this one was built in 1970 some have only literally just sprung up in the last sort of 10 years and I know just behind that tree behind the Comm bank or next to the Commerce Bank skyscraper there’s another couple of skyscrapers appearing used to be the home of one of the largest trading floors in the world Commerce Bank trading floor before it all went tits up and things had to change Deutsche bank’s trading floor was huge as well I remember visiting these places when I used to be a broker I spent my years between 2003 and I think 2022 while I was an interest rate derivatives broker frequently visiting Frankfurt and then later in my bom broking career I think between 2013 and all the way up until 2019 I visited this place so you could say I know this Town well right now I’m not here as a banker I’m not here as a broker I’m not here as a Trader I’m here to show you a little bit of a city that I’m visiting while on route to Ukraine I’ve just taken the ferry across from over England into France stayed in Lil last night drove to Frankfurt and arrived here late last night just so I can spend one day in Frankfurt and show you guys what can be seen in Frankfurt in one day don’t be put off by all the bankers and lawyers there are things to see let’s go and have a look as you can see over there one of the new skyscrapers going up aiming to try to be almost as tall as the promise Bank Tower one of the problems with modern cities you see the relics of the old buildings the buildings built in the 1960s 1970s drab kind of boring and a lot to be desired Concrete Jungle some consider Frankfurt to be but an interesting Concrete Jungle nonetheless and not to be completely dismissed one of the other many ways to get around Frankford is obviously not just taking the subway but you can get the subway from the airport oh what what is that nice to get from the airports Frankfurt from Frankfurt Han airport to the center very easy just take the metro the subway the underground however you want to call it it takes you into the center for round about4 however that price due to inflation due to monetary reasons due to European Central Bank incompetence du into the Federal Reserve incompetence prices will continue to go up the wrong roads have led us into war into poverty into unemployment and inflation another popular way of getting around the city of Frankfurt is obviously the tram you can see the trams flow in a direction east to west north to south fairly easy way to get around Hop On Hop off and it’s a quick way of getting around the main center of the city this video I’m just going to show you the center of the City I really don’t have much time literally here just for a brief stop brief rest bite before I continue my journey East where I will be heading to Ukraine trying to help the people of Ukraine and there’ll be more of that in some future videos watch this space What wondering Englishman video would not be complete without obviously an OB and Obelix has to be seen in every European city that we go to this Obelix slightly different we’ve got a person at the top of the oblix but it is an oblix nonetheless which shows the Masons have an influence in [Music] Frankfurt the statue at the top of this represents Germania and it represents the battle that cannot be lost originally there was something else to the top of this but it got knocked off it was damaged during the second world war you can see the second world war damaged just here the problem with war the problem with the second world war not the problem one of the main issues of the second world war Frankfurt used to look very much like this you see these wonderful beautiful buildings over here but when it comes to what happened in the second world war due to the fight back from the the Americans the Brits the Australians those who were considered the Allies once they entered Germany and once they got close to Germany they bombed the crap out of it Dresden was completely flattened Frankfurt also flattened destroyed very few of the buildings remain some of them thankfully do but majority of them and that’s the reason why Frankfurt is a bit of a concrete jungle the majority of them were built post 1945 in the rebuilding process of Frankfurt but it is now the fifth largest city in Germany and a considerable Financial Hub not the biggest Financial Hub in Europe but third to Paris I believe now London and Paris jostling for first place and they have been for a long time Paris has seen huge strides in recent years due to the fact that UK left the European Union but London continues to fight on although it lost me so who knows what’s going to [Music] happen connected the oblix and found here this beautiful square is Paul’s plats Paul plats maybe some Paul Square it’s if you angular sized it but pool plats as we’re were in Germany this if you would to come here during the winter would be a Christmas Market Christmas markets incredibly popular in Germany pretty much every German City generally has a Christmas Market including Financial hubs like Frankfurt I urge you if you get a chance to visit Germany in the winter and you can try to not think about some of the atrocities that have happened at Christmas markets in recent years due to enrichment that Europe has recently seen this is one of those places that feels very magical at Christmas time there’s always a huge Christmas tree here it’s a summery destination people sit out in the CAF wonderful wonderful destination and if you’re interested in seeing Frankfurt The Hop On Hop off bus drops people off here and picks people up here just north of Paul plats we find ourselves in another robic the Masons have a stronghold on pretty much all of Europe and though many people will tell you this is has different symbology different meaning symbology maybe it has meaning to the stories of Miss the legend sometimes we’ll see statues of Poseidon Poseidon was the god of the sea sometimes we’ll see statues of mermaids myfish M men men with trumpets the reality is it’s still still an Obelix and the Obelix obviously originated from Egypt and yet we find the Obelix with the sun god at the top here in central Frankfurt what’s remarkable is this was actually built in 1773 it was restored in the 20th century but what a beautiful beautiful Fountain I don’t care what the symbology represents I don’t really care that potentially it’s the Masons leaving their marks on the city what it does show is beauty it does show a place in a beautiful Square where people can gather and people can possibly meet next to this wonderful church and it just shows that in a concrete city that is Frankfurt check out this tree things can be beautiful [Applause] [Music] [Music] as we find ourselves north of four flats with the skyscrapers off there into the distance we find ourselves on one of frankfurt’s main shopping streets a kind of grotesque concrete playground leaving little to the imagination a brass statue found in the midst of those consumers that find the need to want to go to the Galleria at 10:00 in the morning the Galleria what we did find though is what looks like a bit more consumerism consumerism in the form of bank SE and unauthorized Bank SE exhibition I might go and have a look at it but it looks like a way to luring the tourists way to sort of take money out of people’s hands ripping off bxy I guess [Music] so I’m here at the unauthorized Banky exhibition unauthorized is it a tourist trap let’s have a look β¬8 to get in I’m out 18 bucks for groceries what let’s go and have a look inside remember this video has chapters so if you don’t want to go inside the Banky exhibition with me you can skip ahead however if you want to save yourself β¬20 and see everything that this uh unofficial Banky exhibition has to offer watch this chapter and I will give you an insight into Banky and my feelings towards these unofficial Banky [Music] exhibitions with his controversial and politically charged Works mysterious and hidden British street artist Banky has unquestionably made a lasting impression on Modern Art his anonin and use of public go to fly exhibit art so that the public May question established ideas about who owns and and Exhibits art but this same elusiveness and appeal have sparked plethora of unofficial shows all over the world many of which appear to take advantage of banksy’s notoriety and iconic status frequently without his knowledge maybe without his knowledge Banky is mainly known for his arresting and frequently satirical street art if you’re curious about an official Banky show I made a video a few years ago when the actual artist appeared in cin London do check out the link if you’re curious however let’s continue this exhibition right here Banksy uses a unique stenciling technique his works are instantly recognizable and often tackle weighty subjects like politics culture and ethics boldly addressing World concerns in a world of Modern Art his combination of activism and art together with his reclusive Persona have captivated both the general public and art critics with his approach to street art which is frequently displayed in conspicuous public Spaces by whose source is unknown Banky questions conventional wisdom about where and how art should be shown it questions the convention that says art belongs in Galleries and is only available to people who can afford to look at it rather Banky delivers art right to the public frequently igniting discussion and argument among a wider and more varied audience in the average Gallery visitor because of the enormous popularity of Banks’s work there have been many unofficial exhibitions held all over the world that feature his well-known pieces outside of their original contextes the nature of these exhibitions like the one we are in today varies greatly some are planned by our afficionados and collectors who are sincerely driven to expose banks these thought-provoking Works to a larger public others like this one meanwhile seem to be motivated more by business concerns hoping to cash in on the artist’s International notoriety for example Melbourne Amsterdam Berlin and of course this one in Frankfurt have all hosted exhibitions such as the art of Banksy though they are neither approved by bank scene nor do they necessarily bring him financial gain these exhibitions frequently charge High Mission prices such as this one charging $18 on a weekday $20 a weekend critics contend that by making Street AR that was first intended to be free and publicly available these exhibitions go against the core values of Banks’s work the Integrity of showing street art in locations far from their intended contexts is called into doubt by the trend of unofficial for-profit shows frequently created for a specific place or Community Banksy pieces are sight specific such as the art that we remember from Ukraine Israel and his early stuff that was dotted around the Streets of London taken out of the original context they may lose their impact and meaning and become more ornamental than the thought-provoking social or political statements they originally intended the commercial ization of banksy’s artwork also draws attention to the conflict between the capitalistic character of The Art Market and the artist anti-establishment views although his anti-establishment views are very questionable in recent years as you will probably note from my commentary in the Banky cuden video it does raise an ethical question though should one profit from the work of an artist who in turn frequently questions the very system that these exhibitions supports and foro financial personal gain from his art although I’m not too worried I think banks is probably doing just fine with these exhibitions there are also ethical and legal issues complex copyright problems are created by Banks his anonity and the illegality of much of his street art legally made street art on private or public property belongs to whom should it be sold who stands to gain when the in isue artwork is taken down and sold without the artist’s permission these issues can get much more complex at the end of the day it is a dog eat dog world out there once you spray in a public space it’s anyone’s for the taking unquestionably Banky has had an enormous influence on art and culture but the unofficial exhibitions attempting to profit from his Works highlight the more General problems in the art world with copyright ownership and the morality of exhibitions the discussion of Banks’s works commercialization is still a divisive but important aspect in his legacy even as he continues to inspire and question social standards even if these shows do expose his work to a larger audience they also Force us to think about the consequences of taking art out of its proper setting and the thin line between appreciation and exploitation what is certain is that banksy’s artwork will continue to impact conversations about art culture and business for some time to come though Banks’s work often seeks to elicit thought and conversation rather than make a clear political statement in my opinion Banks his position is very Pro open borders his artwork usually serves to increase the understanding and compassion of the hardships faced by migrants rather than to offer particular legislative fixes in my opinion his open Bard philosophy compromises National sovereignty and results in uncontrollable migration huge tax burden for hardworking citizens and increased crime rate but this is what banks is all for he lives in the loveby duby world of Art and he doesn’t see that his preaching does have devastating consequences to the nation state in my opinion his portrayal of migration issues while moving frequently oversimplifies intricate social political realities for instance he wants to emphasize the potential of immigrants by portraying Steve Jobs as a son of a Syrian immigrant in Cal this picture meanwhile May Mass the complex difficulties of integration economic effects and cultural assimilating that come with large scale movements painting in an idolized picture that ignores the possible drawbacks such as pressure on public services job creation and cultural conflicts runs the danger of being a huge mistake his creative approach often ignores the justifiable worries of host communities who might experience actual social economic difficulties as a result of abrupt changes in the population his artwork often ignores and necessary substantial changes to present political social and economic policies as well as a strong International cooperation for the actual implementation of open [Music] borders all in all an interesting exhibition but in my mind you’ll see what I think in a moment was it worth of value but this pretty much was the entire exhibition so unless you like your Instagram selfies with some famous art is it really worth it well I think it exploits the consumer but aren’t consumers is there to be exploited anyway the choice is yours well that was the Banky unofficial Without Limits art exhibition everything in there was a print I don’t think there was an original piece in there at all at the end of the day all Banks’s work is effectively print and people pay an obene amount of money to go see a Banky artwork I had the privilege of living in London from year 2000 onwards around all Street and there we had the Pulp Fiction guys of bananas we had the maid sweep under the curtains was was β¬18 worth it was β¬20 at the weekend worth it well everything in the video is pretty much everything in the exhibition I wouldn’t suggest uh it was amazing exhibition everything is prints everything you’ve just seen it right here that saves you β¬8 or β¬20 you are welcome this statue that we see here is supposed to be David and Goliath it was made in 1983 by Richard Heist and I have to say I think it is hius I’m a big fan of the story David and Goliath and I think it’s a Monumental biblical tale that should be remembered and told time and time again but should it really be portrayed in such a hideous aesthetic light as this what do you think do you like this statue I’m not a fan it’s not quite midday but there’s uh wine tasting going on in the Square [Music] I’m not quite hungry yet it’s still a little bit too early for me only had breakfast probably 3 hours ago but obviously Germany is famous for its sausages and there’s an array of sausages you can get in Frankfurt from BR first of the frankfur it’s mouthwatering I’m starting to get hungry just being around the cooking sausages it has to be said Frankfurt will not win any awards when it comes to the beauty or the Aesthetics of the city but it does have a bit of character not the same sort of character that you expect to find in Berlin but character nonetheless would you place this in one of the top three cities in Germany No but doesn’t mean we should discount it [Music] well as we get to midday on our tour we find ourselves at the Frankfurt opera house and what a magnificent Beast of an Opa house notice the beautiful lamps the lamp over here disguising the Obelix can’t get away from the Obelix in this town they control everything they have an influence and they like to show their influence oh they’re waiting for the Masonic H so even when it comes to Aesthetics aesthetic Beauty you can’t really fault them it’s a really really magnificent place as you can see the Opera House sits in the shadow of this powering skyscrapers as they call it over here the Manhattan of Germany and it as it continues to grow we have beautiful Fountain here this beautiful square but you get the chance to go to the Frankfurt Opera House the Al Al Opera this is certainly a place to visit the Frankfurt opera house was originally built in 1880 and it was designed in an Italian Renaissance style by architect Richard L unfortunately it was severely damaged during the second world war in 1944 so it was later re built and it reopened in 1951 thankfully should you visit this place can hold up to 1,400 Spectators and of course they would have an opera house because Bankers love to go to the Opera yeah money never sleeps pal just made 800,000 Hong Kong Golds been wired to you notice here we have the diversity barriers a long time ago not that long time ago we didn’t need these now we have these in all the major cities thanks to the threat that people could be going about their business and then get run down by a truck so they have to build diversity barriers in Frankfurt sometimes it seems like a bleak picture but it really isn’t because the basic nature of mankind is good now you you might see the odd bit of graffiti in Frankfurt but compared to cities like Berlin Frankfurt is surprisingly clean in a way it’s it’s a reasonably clean [Music] city you’ll note that people waiting to get the lift down to the car park all these green spaces little would you know that there’s probably lots of BMWs Mercedes Parks right underneath us and that’s quite prolific in uh Frankfurt although having a car in Frankfurt comes with problems if you want you need a green pass similar to a congestion charge ticket cost you something like1 or something a day to have the privilege to come into Frankfurt was driving from uh France to Germany to get to Frankfurt and I had to park my car not my car I had to park the car that I was driving on the outskirts of Frankfurt and then get the metro into the center which is where I was staying last night but let’s check out this little Park just in the northwest of the city it’s apparently quite a nice statue this way so we’re going to have a look if anything with these tall skyscrapers and these green spaces it conjures up images of the west side of Warsaw or possibly downtown Sydney not as built up as the city of London is between every narrow streets you have tall skyscrapers or just huge buildings at least in Frankfurt you have a fair amount of reasonably Siz green spaces in walking distance from your cell your salary paid job your salary paid job in the hope that you might get bonuses [Music] a lot of people ask me why do I spend so long walking around cities sometimes when I’m walking around cities I’m not just walking around cities just doing from Play A to B to C I’m often making phone calls most of the time I’m listening to podcasts or catching up on things I want to catch up on while I’m walking around and I get to see beautiful things like this it’s one of the wonderful things about traveling Den genius Venus look at this in the shadow of the construction so yeah I’m wearing my headphones just so I can listen to maybe Joe Rogan does anyone else listen to Joe Rogan I’m a big fan obviously not liked by those liberals cuz he speaks the truth I take [Applause] [Music] it I mean it’s not going to knock your socks off being surrounded by these Gish metal glass Giants but it is a city and a city is full of people and it’s the people that make for a city and and if you get the opportunity when you sit down in one of the bars or restaurants or any opportunity when you passing someone say hello to them see if they respond hopefully you don’t get punched I don’t think the average German is going to be aggressive on you possibly the new ones might be aggressive on you but the average uh the average German uh is a very civil polite courteous chap or chapes and they will go to town when you are polite to them they will welcome you in they will try to advise you on what to see what to do where to go you might you might learn something so go out of your way like anywhere in the world go out of your way to try and speak to the locals you play chess down here surrounded by Modern Art stuctures one thing you’ll notice about German cities you won’t see many War memorials unlike other European cities where everywhere you go there’s a war memorial every little village in the UK War Memorial you know highlighting those that died in the first or second world war Germany though more modern sculptures does that look like a young Putin here we have Johan Von schilla a playright a poet an artist probably Germany’s best known playright he inspired Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony of orable Symphonies he’s much celebrated in Germany and here in this beautiful Park is a focal point for people to sort of meet and greet people to sort of chill out and take in the glass metal monstrosities that Tower over them but Johan Von schilla much celebrated here as we find ourselves close back to where we began at the European the Euro sign we not that some of these buildings are not just offices blocks this very prestigious building is a residential block Modern Art over here but this is more interesting here then opin this Monument designed by Beno Elken in 1920 commemorates those that fell during the first world war so here I was speaking that there aren’t many War memorials but here we have a War Memorial dedicated to those that fell on both sides western side and also the German side but this was not liked by the national socialists they actually had it removed as their game Power and then it was uh put back in place having been kept in a storage somewhere and then it was put back it in its original place which is here after the second world war in 1946 Ben welin was a Jewish artist who fled to England in 1936 and here we have this sort of symbol of the Euro here so little bit of graffiti on the back of the back side of the exhibit and obviously not well liked you can see it was made 1920 [Applause] kind of fitting right next to the English theater is a Tandoori Place obviously English love Indian food so right next the English theater of Frankfurt Tandoori now here this is obviously a place where you can watch English theater English musicals or everything in English that’s generally the theme so they put on anything from Shakespeare to the the old stuff to the new stuff and is this a Book Depository I think it is so if you wanted to take some books you could come here pick up a book most of these are in Deutsch but a nice little start this is a public bookcase with the English literatur open to all the city’s residents and visitors choose a book interest to catches your interest and take it home and enjoy not not bad eh the street that runs effectively in the straight direction to the Frankfurt Central Station is a street that has many many little bars cafes restaurants you notice over here there’s a brew dog I’m actually staying right on top of the Brew dog obviously like my beer so why not let stay on top of the Brew dog some ger of beer is a little bit lery a little bit hilery depending on well you’ve seen my video on K said in Cologne depending on where you are will be depending on what type of beer you will be after [Music] see [Music] here we see Leon trosy painted in 1966 by blindness LT LT blindness celebrated in this Gallery they say they call him the LT the hero of the 1917 Russian Revolution can you sense the bias in this Gallery I don’t think we’d be seeing a picture of Adolf Hitler or someone of that of that connotation there’s even a word someone of that persuasion hanging in a gallery saying that he’s the hero I mean can you be any more biased despite the creators of this Museum clearly having a love for communism there are some remarkable pieces of Art in this Museum Museum this is the stle museum it was founded in 1815 by the Frankfurt Banker Johan Frederick stle startled or state tomato tomato you tell me the collection spans over 700 years of European art from the Middle Ages to The Rance to the Baro to the modern period to Contemporary Art the Museum’s collections include paintings sculptures and graphic art some of the key highlights of sto’s collection include works by Lucas clach Albert Dura rembrand Johannes viir belli dear Picasso among many others it’s a real treat to be in this Museum compared to the shodi unofficial Banky one I was at earlier the only unfortunate thing about this Museum it is a little bit pricey to get into and that’s coming from a londoners perspective where most of the major art galleries are free to enter Germany wins when it comes to public transport efficiencies trains standard of living but the UK wins when it comes to getting into art galleries for free and I have to take my hat off to the British government for that it’s one of the few things I can take my hat off about when it comes to the British government because most of the things they do are unremarkable and shoddy and I think our government is being run by PPE 27 year olds that don’t have a clue about anything and would be best kick to the curb rather than running the beautiful kingdom that is the United Kingdom but then again that’s the same with all of Western Europe so we can only sit back watch the downward spiral and reminisce about Good Times when visiting museums such as this well it man I got to skip most of the rain it’s been raining solidly since I’ve been in there still raining as I exit the building I was in there a long time you may have noticed I found predominantly the modern art simply because more security we’re protecting the more prestigious old art and rightly so I don’t think anyone really cares if someone steals some of the modern arts 16 though kind of expensive as we continue to walk along the southern side of the river we will try to avoid the rain walking along this beautiful tree line just to see what we see there’s a lot of museums I just generally don’t think I’m going to have time to go in all the museums I have to admit I’m too tired to go in the German film Museum the Deutsche film Museum another day another time I need to to go have a drink not the most productive of tourist am I I think if it wasn’t raining this would be a lovely walk and you could walk along the sunshine taking in the river admiring the glass metal Concrete Jungle in the distance as it emerges from the earth places to have maybe Curry verst on the side beers nice little Terrace up here people enjoying themselves over a glass of Veno not bad walk just look at this beautiful Iron Bridge that sort of connects the north side to the South side under the cover of these trees one isn’t getting wet but I can assure you it’s still raining and look as you can see there they’re filming something over here who knows what’s going on Frankfurt has this unfortunate situation where you got the central business district and then as we walk away from the Iron Bridge we have to walk Fair distance Southeast to the Oldtown which is exactly where I’m walking now so we’re going to go check out the old time it’s been a while since I was here here’s the tip if you’re venturing into the old town on a weekday don’t come here before 5:00 nothing is open before 5:00 with the odd exception I remember coming down here as a young spritely 19-year-old and sampling this drink called Rhino piss green drink oh tastes like piss I have to say I can’t remember too much after it but it was a it was a great night up until that point but maybe maybe might sample a bit of rhino piss tonight P like piss I have to say I thought it was a Mexican place it’s actually Colombian and it was very very tasty and padas and a very refreshing beer after a long day walking around this place will start to come alive and people will start drinking their Rhino piss and it’ll be a rockus affair I’m sure I’m going to head back into the center try and see a couple of more things and then I’m going to meet someone normally at that stage the camera cuts off and I see people the next day because I’m terrible at bringing the camera along to socials we shall see so walking away from the old town with empanadas in my teeth I walked away from the record stores to basically walk towards this what it looks like a beautiful Church in the distance let’s go and have a look this is one thing one thing I find remarkable about Germany they had some be full buildings for sadly they were replaced by crap like this and yes the Allies are to blame we didn’t need to bomb as mercilessly as we did and our hands in the air as an Englishman I feel immense guilt for what we did but at the same time there’s guilt on both sides so there’s no black and white in war anyone that tells you there’s a good side and a bad side doesn’t know what they’re talking about [Music] sadly the church is closed but it is the E LOF Dron gzar [Applause] okay and here we are on the iron foot Bridge of Frankfurt being weighed down by all of the optimistic locks that sort of litter Bridges all over the world now remember the uh bridge in Paris set it all off they’ve actually had to dismantle that bridge take all the blocks down and do away with the metal and now the metal is glass in Paris the same may happen here because these locks just simply are a great way of lock companies making money but he says it’s really been good for business terrible for the weight distribution of a bridge it’s romantic always a bit of a photo opportunity in the middle of the bridge especially with you got the skyscraper background [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] I really do hope all these people are still together and it wasn’t just fleeting I really do down here is people playing table tennis [Music] there are some seriously beautiful old buildings and then we have the modern buildings this is a m Museum this is the Historic Museum Museum of History but I think we check out the main squares over here we’re getting close to completing our tour of the central areas of Frankfurt [Music] here we enter the historic Market Square although no Market on today this is rberg I remember coming here sometime suited and booted after a meeting and uh seeing a market going on not today [Music] [Music] is no Obelix this time what looks like almost Lady Justice propping up the fountain the fountain is actually called the Fountain of justice and it dates back to 1543 making it one of the oldest fountains and statues in the city it features the statue of the Roman goddess of Justice holding the traditional symbols of a scale a sword and a blindfold and it represents in theory the impartiality and the treatment of all before the law just to give you some perspective we’re now back on P CL so Square just behind us and P pl’s just in front of us remember the ovps that we saw this morning couldn’t get into the museum because we were there before 10 [Music] now while a lot of this looks old most of this has been reconstructed similar to what you will witness in Warsaw most of this is a reconstruction and what a beautiful reconstruction they’ve really given a damn about let’s making the city aesthetically pleasing and they really have done a great job in terms of even the fire hydrants look amazing really really [Music] impressive as we head around the corner we find ourselves looking at the Frankfurt Cathedral it is also known as St balamu Cathedral and it’s a significant landmark in Frankfurt you can see it from almost every skyscraper although commonly called a cathedral it has never been a seat of a bishop so technically it’s a cgic church the original Church on their site was dedicated in the 7th Century but the structure that stands today was mostly constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries the cathedral is renowned for its towering Spire which Rises about 95 m in height and was once the tallest building in the city it has been a site of immense historical importance especially during the Holy Roman Empire when it served as an election and coronation church for Emperors from 1356 and 1792 the cathedral has survived multiple constructions and reconstructions it was severely damaged during World War II and subsequently restored the cathedral is also the grave of the famous German Theologian philosopher Mystic Meister aart I didn’t do it today but you can climb up to the top of the viewing platform at the top of the tower providing very beautiful views over all of Frankfurt and the main river worthy of your time if you have the time give you some perspective on what I was talking about how the place has been completely reconstructed as you can see around this cathedral which has been completely gutted every single Street was Destroy it and it’s remarkable by what they’ve done buildings outside are seriously beautiful we’ve done an incredible job well standing outside the Frankfurt Cathedral you can see how modern it was inside and just look around noting that picture we saw every single Street where we built and they’ve done it most of the buildings remarkably well so just appreciate that when you’re strolling through much of the streets of Frankfurt it’s all been rebuilt since 1945 [Music] as night time set I’m all set to go out for dinner but I thought I’d first stop off at this historical landmark this is Johan Gutenberg Gutenberg obviously the inventor of the printing press the inventor who basically revolutionized the world that we know brought books to mankind brought newspapers to mankind mass produced The Print and changed the world and basically meant power was no longer in the hands of those that ran the churches those the kings and queens people could suddenly read for themselves but this Johan Gutenberg right in the center of [Music] Frankfurt I hope it’s not going to be a tourist trap but I’m going to go to this place zum spand is something but this is where I’m going to go and hopefully experience some good German food snails with cheese I know so going to go for two classic German Franks the sour and German uh well pork on sourkraut a bit bread why [Music] not morning last day in Frankfurt 24 hours in Frankfurt an enjoyable City it’s changed dramatically over the years and for that I’m kind of grateful I I’ve got to come back again despite visiting it frequently in my broken years this is a city that I’ve enjoyed significantly as I head towards the station so the H bof main sort of Central Station to Frankford beautiful design Atlas holding up the Rock World up [Music] there we’re going to head towards our next destination fairly easy to navigate this major Central station for trains but also a Central Station for the the Metro pretty good place to get around Germany and the rest of Europe anyway I think I’m going to go get myself a coffee and I’ll see you in the next adventure thanks for watching [Music] [Music]
