Travel Cambodia UNPLUGGED | Day 8 (Ratanakiri)

travel Cambodia with me unplugged no internet no data no planning we’re taking it back to Old School backpacking today is day eight and we are out on this beautiful Lake good morning we are heading out now going to some waterfalls and some laks and some gem [Music] May okay so it is extremely dry season right now but there’s still like a bunch of greenery and stuff out in roton aniri and it’s really pretty so the drive’s been [Music] nice first stop today is at gem mines which I had no idea like what to expect but we’re literally in a rubber Plantation and they just dig these massive holes going so far down into the ground um looking for gems um and then they sell them tening tourist coming through here or like in town oh wowe spee fore and so then once they mine these where do they go to clean them and shape them this this one by no steam with the fire okay but don’t me but this one they steam with the fire okay and then chain color really interesting and really I had a weird moment where like I didn’t they all left now it’s their break time CU they’ve been working on morning but like I had a weird thought just like this is what I do for work like talking to a camera and traveling around and I just watched a man crawl out of like a 20ft hole and that’s what he has to do for work and makes nowhere near the money and it’s just I don’t know makes you just think about socio economics and just the world and all of it so this province rat nakiri yeah yeah prob has some of the best soil it’s called the Redland cuz all like the dirt’s kind of red and stuff and potatoes grow really well here cashews cashew trees which Cash N rubber trees anything do avocados grow here avocado too yeah avocado and pepper and Pepper too all the things up here not number one of the land number one of the land the land yeah okay and then different regions are better for rice and other the rice the rice um some District uh not the red gland can scroll the rice okay nice one kilo with skin 4,000 or oh that’s so cheap yeah cheap yeah cuz this part gets big and turns into the fruit this this one and grow and big and then they can make the Ry sne oh rice wine from that RNE yeah and so the nut is inside this yeah oh [Music] okay and so part of today’s adventure is not totally knowing what’s happening or like what we’re doing next so our next stop is a lake um we showed up there’s a bunch of different food vendors um clothing vendors you can buy bunch of cute clothes same clothes I’ve seen feel like I’ve seen all the markets um but yeah but I see the lake straight in front of me and it’s already so hot it’s like 11:00 a.m. so time to go jump in [Music] I’m really enjoying it here it’s so just like part of it is peaceful and nice but then the other part of it it’s like fun and adventurous and it’s just all locals and kids just like running and jumping and playing and swimming out in the water I feel like I could just spend all day here and if you definitely don’t want to be doing a full tour you could just like rent a scooter or just hire a driver to like bring you out here and just come and spend the day they’ve got a bunch of different hammocks that you can chill out in there’s a bunch of different restaurants you can get some food um great way to spend an afternoon especially when it’s the hot season like the dry season right now because it’s so painfully hot and like great way to cool down even though the lake is still like it’s not cold but it’s cooler than the air kind of is but it feels good you to too but [Music] I so sadly we are leaving the lake but that means it’s time to go eat some food and we’re going to head to a local Kamai restaurant in town one thing that I have really appreciated here is there’s been a bunch of signs saying like don’t Litter into the lake pick up your trash which you usually don’t see signs like that in Southeast Asia so it’s very refreshing to see that and just answered a question that I had asked I think maybe in video day four or something like that but it’s Kamai I think I was always pronouncing it kamare but Kamai so Kamai language Kamai people Kamai [Music] everything so the other day I tried be flop flop for the first time at the tanam restaurant yeah yes but the first time I tried it was in cm re um and it was really good during the food tour so I had to get it again we are at tanam restaurant tanam restaurant tanam restaurant in bangong I’m about to try it we had to First make up the sauce um it looks delicious so time to dig in that was absolutely delicious and now time to go work it off by hiking to a waterfall there there is absolutely no waterfall I mean I guess I don’t know that because I’m not paying to go into it it’s only a dollar I realize that but we just crossed the river that comes here and it’s like literally there’s no movement it’s the tiniest little stream so so we’re going to skip it so I definitely recommend if you’re coming to ratanakiri to definitely come here during the not at the very end of the dry season cuz rainy season starts in like less than one month and they’ve had no rain within the last month so it’s very dry very hot I’m trying to figure out what we can do next instead because we’ve got Sunset up at the Buddha Hill I don’t know what to do for the next four [Music] hours so in the Lonely Planet book it said one of the things you had to do was go to Coconut Shake restaurant um it’s on the lake here in town we’re going to give it a shot supposedly it’s really good coconut shakes that’s really good that’s definitely worth checking out when you come to on Long yeah that’s tasty yeah that’s good and when we have to re one to to B contact me yeah coconut yeah cheers yeah we are back at the Homestay because it’s just way too hot out I just can’t be out there anymore so coming back going to take a couple hour break and just rest and chill and then head to the big Buddha for our sunset oh my goodness that cold shower felt so good but when I say cold I just mean like room temperature like not hot don’t come to rock nakiri in April it’s so hot but like we were supposed to go to two waterfalls and like that just didn’t happen because there’s no water and it’s just the other things to do would be like go out and do like multi-day trekking which it’s too hot for that and like there’s no water and it’s too hot that there’s not a bunch of the animals around so everything’s so so I did look into though finding an internet cafe here and there isn’t one and there wasn’t one in Boton bong and I’m kind of at the point now though where like I actually have to have internet cuz I need to check and see if my Vietnam Visa Eva came through so we are going to connect my laptop to internet and we are just going to go on and check and see that the Vietnam Visa is there make sure that’s all good and then get the internet off we’re not doing it on the phone so like don’t get any messages none of that happens but we are going to have to use my own computer but it’s just going to be a quick check make sure the Visa is there and then turn it off so yeah oh it’s loading I can’t tell if it’s I don’t understand I don’t okay so it went through we’re all good everything’s perfect um which I mean I had a feeling it would be but I’ve heard some people have like issues like if one little thing is wrong or something like I don’t know but I’ve applied for a vetnam Visa before last year and it was fine and easy but people like freaked me out this time they’re like oh this it’s fine just don’t be a just like just kidding I’m sure those people actually were like very intelligent people and just made one small mistake okay anyways okay time to turn the computer off oh I need to email my Mom first and just tell her I love her I’m alive but then turning it off and if you’re wondering why I’m still in a towel after it’s been like 30 minutes from my shower is because I’m probably going to have to shower again because I’ve been sweating again just while sitting here in front of the fan like it’s just hot it’s taking literally all of my mental strength right now to put clothes on and then come outside so we can go see Sunset it’s going to be pretty but it’s just so hot just about 4 years ago they built a big booth on one of like looks like the highest hill here is it kind of the highest hill yeah yeah it’s like looks like it’s like the tallest hill so it’s a great place for Sunset um looks like they’re still kind of working on some of the Buddha stuff like you can see all the different like regions of Bon long um and yes so we’re going to sit here hang out Watch [Music] Sunset cheers to a day yeah welcome to codia so what okay so my mom is like the world’s biggest worry freak like I get every mom worries like she really really worries so she was not a huge fan of me doing this whole like 2 weeks not talking to or like no internet thing um the one thing she said which it’s so funny cuz she never says anything like this but the one thing she said was don’t go into any strangers homes like if you get invited into somebody’s home like don’t go and knob just invited me to a house party um and I’m going to go okay yeah she’s going to die she’s going to die but she won’t know about it for another like six days so it doesn’t really matter but he’s the sweetest guy he’s the best so yeah we’re going to go hang out with them um going to go party with some cambodians um excited welcome to Cambodia J JY [Music]
