The square is famously home to hundreds of pigeons, what fascinates many visitors. This monument to the right, honors Francesc Macià, president of Catalonia during the Second Spanish Republic. Plaça Catalunya is considered Kilometer Zero of Barcelona, and it lead us to Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. LA RAMBLA is the most famous bolulevard in Barcelona, stretching 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles), from Plaça de Catalunya to Columbus Monument at the seafront.
