okay I’m in the supermarket and I’m going to get a few things and I want to show you the prices here on a famous Greek Supermarket it’s a big chain this is one of the First videos I’m going to do about uh Greek Supermarket so we can see a different prices for those of you who’ve been asking so let’s go inside okay guys so here I am in a supermarket that we usually shop as a family we tend to go to this particular supermarket and I’m just going to walk you through very quickly through a few items that you can buy especially if you’re traveling to Greece and you’re going to stay on our Airbnb uh but if you stay until the end of the video I’m going to give you a whole breakdown a full breakdown of the different items that you can purchase here in Greece and their prices but I just want to really you know scaned through if you will through some of the prices that you will uh that you can find in a supermarket here in Greece uh just on a quick note I am recording this early in the morning and to be quite honest I’m not I’m not sure if I supposed to to record if I’m allowed to record like this I’ve seen other YouTubers have uh a lot of problems um recording in supermarkets and in shops so I’m very self-aware so I am very very um you know kind of like scared if you will that I’m going to be told off because it’s empty and you know I am just literally recording with my smartphone and just trying to give you a rough idea of what the prices are you know uh the vegetables we usually get them uh in the farmer’s market uh you can certainly find a fresher products and at a better price uh we’re not in the season of apples really at this very moment so I’m recording this video uh but you can you know see some of the prices here very very quickly again forgive me for just going so fast with the camera like this at this point I just enter the supermarket I’m very self-aware of me filming and it’s hard for me to just uh keep the camera steady while my wife is is buying uh some fruits and some veg but you can you know you can have an idea of the prices you know uh to make some sandwiches if you’re traveling here to Greece like I was mentioning and you’re staying in uh Airbnb or something these are the prices of ham and and bisa galopa which is uh turkey if you will what are you getting H we don’t tend to buy meat in the supermarket we tend to go to a butcher but you know there’s usually a big selection and you can get different offers as well in uh the supermarket when it comes to different types of meat uh today we’re going to be buying uh 1 kilo of mins so uh you know uh it’s very convenient if you come to the supermarket it just you can get some good quality meat here we’re getting as well some uh chicken actually uh here’s the price of chicken per kilo uh some sliced cheeses here popular brands you know uh these are very popular brands here in Greece so you can just have a quick look uh different prices that you can get some graviera as well some cheeses to make pizzas and it’s convenient for you to just get something here and of course feta but you have a big selection here of feta uh milk you know we usually tend to get this type of milk noo uh here you will see the price of olive oil in the supermarket I mentioned about the prices of uh different products when I film in the balico where my friend panayotti uh has uh different products that I’m showing you actually here as well and you can compare the prices they’re very very similar uh but you know uh spaghettis uh you know leave in the comment section uh what type of prices are in your country compared to what you see here as well but that this will give you a rough idea of what the different things we get we tend to get sardelis sardines and you know tuna as well uh these are old products as well that have been produced here in na actually this particular brand that I’m filming right now and now I would like to show you actually some uh cleaning products and other things toilet paper all right and uh you know uh different stuff cleaning products for washing the dishes and and and whatnot but you know this gives you a rough idea of uh you know what you can get here in Greece while you’re staying uh as a tourist uh for for the rest of us that live here uh we have seen obviously an increase in prices I guess this is true in all parts of the world you know prices have increased when it comes down to to Goods I mean there no secret in it right U and you know we we we we just you know oh oh yeah Pampers uh we don’t get Pampers anymore but spontaneous as possible uh and try to show you what a a normal day uh today is for for someone who lives here agrees with a family and you know so this is is uh € 2966 so uh follow me now because I’m 1. Here in Massachusetts, USA, my wife and I spend about €150 per week but we rarely buy red meat. This does not include our wine and liquor purchases which add another €50 per week or more. We budget about €1,000 per month for all food, alcohol and dining out. Would like to know how this compares to Greek prices.

  2. I lived in Athens back in the 90's so my memory of prices was in drachmas and 30 years ago; but I was shocked how expensive things are there now. I live in San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in America, yet prices in my Trader Joe's are cheaper. I noticed how Greek olive oil is more expensive in Greece than in my local supermarket. Given the lower wages and salaries in Greece it must be very hard for many. Mind you I imagine rents are way lower in Greece; here in San Francisco a small studio goes for US$2500 and a 1 bdrm apartment US$3,500 to US$4,000/month.

  5. True, food prices have gone wayyyyy up everywhere. The one Greek item I purchase here in Vegas that has skyrocketed here in price is imported Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil that I purchase from an international market.
God willing, I do plan to retire in Greece 🇬🇷 in a few years.

  6. good video Daniel 👍 meat has always more expensive in Greece. as a comparison Beef regular mince and Chicken breast fillets here in Australia from a major chain supermarket is 6.70euro a kilo or $11 a kilo Australian for both. Is that beef mince derived from Germany as the label says?

  7. These prices are also reflected in restaurant prices. Greece is not exactly inexpensive. Yet when I tell people so..they scoff. The only real difference that is noticeable are rent prices. This is really the only thing that makes Greece less expensive than the US

  8. Next time you do this kind of video please put some spy/espionage music in the background while in the supermarket 🤣

  9. Hello from Canada Daniel.
You are living the dream, my friend. I wish you all the best.
    Nafplion is a beautiful city.
I watch your videos when I can.
    Be well.

  10. Hello 😊 as a Greek American who moved to Greece in the summer of 2021. I wish I did my homework more before making the huge move. First of all I knew a lot about Greece because I would vacation here every other summer. But like everyone told before moving here, vacationing here and living are two different things. We moved here a family of 3 ( I have a 10 year old son) the problems I faced were, it has been very challenging finding a decent paying job here, not talking crazy money just decent, even with a university degree I make 1000€ a month which is nothing when you consider how expensive rent has become. If you own a house, your going to be better financially, but if your planning on renting, it’s going to be a challenge. The average pay in Greece is between 700-850€ in euros monthly. Everyone was telling me how lucky I was to be making 1,000€. Supermarkets are expensive, every month you see the difference in prices. Bottom line, it’s not cheap living here!!! If you have a decent job lined up that can cover your rent and monthly expenses, or own a home here, then go for it!!!

  11. I live in Thessaloniki.
I've also lived in Berlin and Melbourne.

It will never cease to shock me how much cheaper food is in Berlin, and how much more expensive in Melbourne.

How can all the imported goods in Berlin be like 30% cheaper than the locally produced goods in Greece? Madness.

The products that I find too expensive in Greece is first of all beef, which I'd understand since it is usually imported.
But also greek cheeses and olive oil which should not be.
And pre-filleted chicken is also expensive in super markets, compared to a butcher.

If you have a business, you can try shopping at TheMart, which has much better prices.

  12. The prices actually look pretty similar to what we pay here in the US however, the food in the US is all toxic. I would like to believe even though the prices arent much better, the quality of the meat and produce looks much higher than what we recieve currently. Most produce I get now tends to already be molded in store and the amount of toxic ingredients in our pantry items is crazy. My family is excited to have better quality ingredients when moving.

  13. It was very interesting to see the prices as I did the mental arithmetic trying to convert everything to AUD. It's pretty much on par – slightly less – with what we pay here for things as well. Our prices here in Australia are becoming out of control at the supermarket – especially meats. It's ludicrous. We chase the sales as much as we can and change our shopping habits.

  14. the comparison must be made with a comparison of other data …. for example …. what is the salary in country x and what is the salary in the other country, then the comparison is made in the prices of the products ….. from the Greece, you leave, you don't stay….. Greece is for people from Asia and Africa…. that's how it happened…. Greece is over as they knew it 5, 10 years ago…
