making friends in your adult years can be challenging, yet those friendships can be the strongest – they are more of a conscious decision than something you do out of habit. you see, to me, a person, who’s constantly moving in space, adult friendships also mean long-distance relationships. not seeing people you love the most for half a year, then spending a week together, then splitting up for another half a year or so.

a couple of years back, i and Michaela became friends, and i’ve never known what it feels like to have a best friend until then. ever since we built this strong connection while living near each other, lots of things changed. we both moved from country to country, stopped seeing each other so often, and were reunited only by going on a couple of trips together. one of these trips happened back in the summer when i went to visit Michaela in her beautiful home country Slovakia, and we drove through it, stopping at random and not-so-random places, trying halušky, building tents, having breakfast picnics with freshly squeezed orange juice and sourdough bread baked by her, and only speaking with this weird strong eastern-european-ish accent that automatically turns on once we’re together.

these random moments i filmed during our journey turned out to be an authentic portrayal of our friendship – a collection of unfiltered, raw moments with no clear beginning or end. just two blondes sharing a singular brain cell forged through nights spent on the ground in a tent during storms, a mutual obsession with potato chips, and a sort of fatigue overshadowed by genuine happiness.
