The Unknown Places of the Amalfi Coast, Italy | Montepertuso

Montepertuso is a enchanting village on the Amalfi Coast, located above Positano, at the foot of the Lattari Mountains, overlooking the sea. The village is a quiet place, dominated by the “Mount Gambera” rock, an impressive natural arch and the Church of Santa Maria della Grazie, with its Renaissance architectural appearance. The name Montepertuso comes from the massive natural hole in the rock, meaning “pierced rock”. The small Italian village offers charming views and good walking trails to explore the other outlying hamlets set in the terraced hills of the Amalfi Coast. Until the road was built, the village was reachable only by a staircase, by walking up to 1500 steps. Montepertuso is a wonderful place to be discovered, surrounded by nature, where time seems to stand still.

Set between the mountains and the sea, the Amalfi Coast is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is one of Italy’s most memorable destinations. Located in the Campania region of Italy, the Amalfi Coast displays sky-high costal cliffs raised from the turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The coast with its picturesque and multicolored seaside towns offers the traveler probably the most stunning views in Italy.
