This village sits high in the Sierra Nevada mountains, overlooked by Gaucin Castle perched on the mountain above.
We start by exploring Gaucin Castle (also known as Eagles Castle) and the stunning panoramic views before heading down into the village (we get to the village around 14 minutes into the video).
We wander through peaceful winding streets and past historic buildings such as the Parroquia de San Sebastian.
Gaucin can be found in Spain’s southern Andalucia, around a 2-hour drive from the Costa del Sol’s Malaga and a similar distance from Cadiz.
Gaucin is one of Spain’s “Pueblos Blancos, ” or white villages. These are a series of picturesque towns nestled in the Andalusian hills in southern Spain, known for their distinctive white-washed buildings.
This traditional architectural style, with its origins dating back to the region’s Moorish past, helps to reflect the sun’s rays. This keeps the buildings cool during the hot summers and adds a unique character to these towns.
