What do you need to know about St Jean d’Aulps?
Hi, welcome to our Alpine Property’s YouTube channel. In this series, we will tell you about our local villages. This video is about St Jean d’Aulps and the surrounding area. When Alpine Property started out in 1999, St Jean d’Aulps was the place where people who could not afford Morzine looked for property. Not any more. Now, it is the place people favour who want to be close to Morzine and Avoriaz, but want some space and peace and quiet. It’s not just St Jean d’Aulps. The valley includes many self-contained villages such as Le Biot, Seytroux, and the hamlets of Essert La Pierre, and La Baume. That St Jean d’Aulps is a prized location should not be a surprise. Back in the 11th century, when the valley was settled by the Cistercian monks, St Jean d’Aulps was the place they choose for the historic Abbey. It is still visible today, complete with a visitor’s centre and exhibition of its history. Just next door is the current site of the valley’s Organic Market Garden, a cooperative started by one of the local restaurateurs and just across the road is the Ferme du Caly, a working farm that sells milk, yoghurt, and cheese from the door and in the local shops. St Jean d’Aulps is still a proper village. Ten minutes from Morzine, it has two boulangeries, two bars, two general food stores, a smaller one in the village, and a large supermarket just outside that serves Morzine and Léger. There is a ski area five minutes up the road from the village known as the Espace Roc d’Enfer. It is a standalone ski area under the umbrella of the Portes du Soleil. It is one part of the active municipality. Every year, they invest in something else, new lifts, snow-making, even new pistes. It’s not just a skiing. Recently, the commune has added a pumptrack for the bikes. In addition to that, there’s climbing, horse riding, and plenty of fantastic walks. Go up to the little heaven of Graydon, and you will see what we mean. We’ve briefly shown some of the views, sites, and architecture that can be seen around St Jean d’Aulps. Our local agents have lived in the area for years and will be happy to chat in person about what it’s like to live in the valley. Just leave a message here or go to our contact details in the description. Otherwise, just let us know in the comments what you like about St Jean d’Aulps. See you in the next video.
