ππ· What happened to Zadar’s Railway Station? Croatian Railways
so recently I visited zadar in Croatia it’s a great City and I’ve got a video about my visit on my other channel so I’ll put a link in the description below if you want to watch that to find out what zadar is like but my plan was to take a timeout from holidaying and do some creation train spotting on a previous visit to split I saw some great Croatian Rolling Stock and I thought I’d try my luck here in zadar as well I headed to the back of the huge bus station where the Zara railway station is located with High Hopes I’d see something like this it was quite a surprise waiting for me though and not what I expected check out what the railway station currently looks like obviously no trains have run here for some time the rails had rusted over and the local graffiti artists were having a good go at it interestingly enough the signals were still illuminated though but set to Red no trains today but it wasn’t always like this this line called the Leer Railway as it mostly runs through the Lea region is part of the 220 km long m604 line which connects the Zagreb to R line with the main Railway Hub at Ken the spur from this line to Zar is number m606 and runs for 96 km it was constructed over a period of 14 years with the entire route opening in 1967 here’s some footage I found of the very first train arriving into Zara in 1967 with huge crowds welcoming it while the line was being constructed the Yano gelia Factory in Zagreb had made three prototypes of these JZ 611 diesel electric trains [Music] and in 1968 the railway Transport company Zagreb launched a campaign called travel comfortably by train so on June 22nd 1968 a 611 train named the cornat express left Zagreb for zadar for the first time this photo shows the train in zadar station passengers on board traveled in first class with Buffy Services as well as music news and local information available to them throughout the journey sadly those days are long gone now the line deteriorated through the years and was damaged as well during the Croatian War limited Services were reintroduced once repairs were completed but the service was in Decline running just a patchy service with these old rail cars the writing was already on the wall however in4 14 a modernization plan was mentioned instead though the decision was to Simply stop operating the line today it falls further into disrepair yet has an air of having been abandoned in a hurry currently a replacement bus service leaves the bus station and takes you to Canin where you can catch a train to other creation destinations there are no plans to reintroduce train Services here and it feels like Services won’t ever return turn to zadar so I’m hopeful that I’ll get a chance to check out some other Croatian Railway Services soon but for now I’ll leave you with some more views of the station and the goods building [Music] thanks for watching and I hope you like this video if you did please give it a thumbs up but that’s it for today see you
On a recent visit to Zadar in Croatia I took a time out to look over the Zadar railway station. Now abandoned, it used to be a key railway destination and a final stop for one of Croatia’s most iconic trains, the Silver Bullet or JΕ½ 611.
Find out about the train, and what happened to Zadar’s rail connection.

Good inspiration for a dioramaππΌ
Long time ago you could travel with overnight sleep train from Belgrade to Zadar. Now they do not have trains, they do not have train station or rail but they are independant.
This year, 70 million Euros reconstruction of railway line Zadar Knin will begin. Should be finished in 4 years, so we can hope in 2028-2029 we will see trains in Zadar again
In 70s pretty much you could go from any town to any town in Yugoslavia by rail ,back then trains were still new and clean
