Travelers and welcome to a new episode of Germany. unknown the podcast. Today I meet again with my colleagues Mafer, to whom I greet Mafer Hello, how are you? Hallöhen Gibbo how are you? How are you? Hello, welcome, welcome and Ale. Hello, hello, good morning Kumpels travelers! In this new episode Kumpels Viajeros we bring a very nice, very interesting topic that is also another of the topics that are asked a lot on social networks and that is that we are going to talk about what is the best time to visit Germany. Although each era has its things, each era has something beautiful, something also difficult. Today we are going to talk according to our experience, our way that we have lived here in Germany. For us, what would be the best time to visit Germany so that you can enjoy your trip to this country to the fullest and get to know it as well as possible. So we are going to introduce this topic and we are going to start with Gibbo, what is your opinion and what would it be? Yes, definitely those who listen to us should know that what we are going to say during this episode has to do with the experiences that we have lived during several years of living in Germany, so it is not based solely on a first impression or an experience. only. If we don’t have a point of reference and we speak from that experience, right? So in my case maybe also because I come from Mexico City , where the climate is quite, eh, I don’t know, like standard and mild for me. I found the extreme point interesting and to this day I enjoy it a lot and it is winter, but not all winter, which is very long, not in my case, and what I highly recommend to people who want to come to Germany if you have the opportunity to come in December or normally from the last weekend of November until December 23. It’s usually Christmas market time, right? And I think that for many people it is one of the most beautiful times, right? In other words, because in addition to having this, uh, gastronomic, cultural part of being able to go to a Christmas market and be able to drink a mulled wine or Glühwein as it is called in German, the landscapes are very beautiful, right? It is true that the climate is very extreme. You should bring the right jacket, hat, gloves, scarf and the right shoes, but for me it is definitely one of the most beautiful times that I definitely recommend visiting Germany. I don’t know if you are Team Cold or Team Hot, let’s see, I must say that I enjoy the cold. Just like you. I think that in Mexico we don’t have like this German cold and the truth is that it is very enjoyable. However, for me my favorite season of the year is autumn, because hey, after summer it is a bit intense, at least in the region where I am. I consider that the weather in autumn is ideal. It’s not so it’s it’s a little bit more uh temperate like in Mexico. And maybe that’s why it’s my favorite season, but also because of the landscape. I love taking photographs, so I think that many of the people who visit Germany also enjoy taking photographs and the landscapes I like. They look spectacular. In the south of Germany, for example, which is more wooded, you can see how this range of oranges and yellows and ocher colors are spectacular. From a story. And in general in all cities, both the most touristy and the least, you find this contrast of amazing colors. I love it and the weather is very pleasant. I think that everyone should consider , regardless of what season, would be best in economic terms or what things are open or what to do. What climate do you enjoy the most? Because I think that coming for a week or two weeks and suffering the weather, well, yes, it’s kind of not ideal, right? So rather think ok, I like the mild climate a little more, which would be spring or autumn, or I like the cold more or without a doubt I want to be in sandals and shorts. So that would be like my recommendation. But yes, I really enjoy autumn. Also walking, right? Yes Yes. Ale, a question and from your region? I don’t know your region, what place to take photos do you recommend? For example, in that fall season? Do you know any parks, for example, here in Hamburg? I would recommend that when you come at that time you can go to the Stadtpark, which is a gigantic and very very beautiful park. Or also the Planten und Blumen is a botanical park, a botanical garden here in Hamburg, where you have countless plants and trees and it is beautiful to be able to see these bright yellow colors or orange colors as you said, but I don’t know in your region which one we would you recommend. Let’s see, in the city where I live. This is it, which one is it? What’s your city? So no, if you haven’t seen our previous episodes. I live in Speyer, which is Espira in Spanish and we live behind the DOM cathedral. Mhm. We have a huge garden called Dom Garten and you can have a picnic there. There are different events and it looks beautiful there. And if you go a little further you can see the Rhine River and all the nature around it is wonderful and obviously around here, well we have cities like Heidelberg for example. I highly recommend them. It’s beautiful, it’s beautiful. And in autumn this contrast of the river with the mountains, the trees and of course the palace. The castle, right? The castle, the castle and more to the south. The truth is that I go often because I have family there and it is incredible. The south of Germany, the part of the Black Forest or Schwarzwald I is something that I would recommend to all people, especially in autumn, because that is where it is concentrated as it is. No, it is not so common in Latin American countries, not these four seasons and autumn like that from a photo on the internet, right? Very very very good recommendations and yes, sorry about that place. I mean, just so that the people who are listening to us can locate on the map just where I am, which is Hamburg, so that I can go to what you just said about Heidelberg, it takes me 05:30 by car. In other words, it is to accurately measure the size of the country, right? When you visit, you do take into account, eh, the distances, right? I mean, you won’t be able to visit three cities so quickly if you want to visit, I know, Hamburg, which is super north of the country, or Heidelberg , right? I mean, there you’re going to have to choose very carefully what to visit, right? Maybe those further south can say no, that is, maybe Speyer and Heidelberg. Exactly, exactly. That’s also important to think about. Because yes, in fact, I lived in Schwarzwald for a while and we went to Hamburg. And yes, it is seven, almost eight hours by car. Of course, that must be considered. And well, in public transport the journey is much longer, even if it is a high-speed train. Yes. It is not exact either. Mafer, what is your, your your. Your time of year recommendation And what is your favorite too? I think like everything, I think. Well, I love autumn. According to Ale. I mean, it’s beautiful. Autumn is incredible, the red, yellow and brown colors will always accompany you everywhere, in all your photos. I mean, it’s incredible how to see the leaves fall, how the day gets shorter too, the temperature for me. I think it’s ideal, I mean, it’s not for people who don’t want so much cold and don’t want so much heat, but I also really liked winter. I went to a city to a lake called Eibsee which is about southwest of Garmisch and I saw everything completely like winter, everything white. See the mountains completely white. The cold is a bit complicated, yes, but with appropriate clothing you can go calmly. You won’t suffer from the cold. The good thing is that here in Germany you get heaters, that is, you don’t suffer from the cold as much. But it is beautiful. I mean, it’s incredible to see all four seasons here in Germany, but my favorite would be autumn, number one. Yes is. It’s like, very, very complicated. No? You have to see a lot what your tastes are, even what your budget is. Right now we are talking about what the weather is like, what the views are like, how you can enjoy each of the things. But I think it’s also important that we consider that cost part. If you, as a traveler, are also seeing that part of how much it will cost you to travel to Germany in each of the seasons, in each season. For example, summer, I think, is the most expensive season to travel to Germany. No, because it’s where everyone is traveling and also because it’s the season. Well, like in the vast majority of countries, the holiday season , right? And you will also find all the very crowded places to be traveling. So, if you are a person who likes it, who likes the part of the heat that you like, who wants to get to know Germany in its warm season, then you are going to have to make an effort beforehand to make all your reservations to do all your planning. and invest a little more towards this trip in the winter season. Maybe if you are close to the Weihnachten season, the Christmas season will also be a little more expensive that season, right? But if you go to seasons before the. Weihnachten I always say that a very good time to visit Germany is between the end of September to November. The prices are not that high. There are some days with very good weather. Maybe this part of autumn is already beginning, and maybe the weather is starting to be not so beautiful in the rain aspect, but in terms of views in that phase, right? And we who come from tropical countries, well, warmer because I think that this winter and autumn thing is something very attractive for us too, right? Although we may suffer a little from the cold in winter, it can also be very interesting to see all these snowy views. I really like the views, for example in the fall when I’m walking and you hear that sound of your footsteps, right? Of the leaves. But also the season where I travel the most within Germany, because as I said, it’s summer, right? What is it Normally I look for places where I can go for walks, where you can enjoy this part of nature more and I go to places that are warm, although I don’t like the heat, as I mentioned at some point, I don’t like it. I suffer a lot from the heat, but it’s the season when you can travel a little more and take more walks, right? But my favorite season I would also go with Winter and Autumn. I really like the views and being able to also enjoy the snow, right? What we also said at some point is that even the clothes. Mhm. It has to be mentioned, right? There is a specific time in Germany to take these ski holidays, right? I mean, people have their week, their specific days to make a full week of going to a mountain full of spectacular snow to do this sport, right? So also to those who listen to us who like this activity or who want to experience it for some occasion in their life, we also highly recommend that they do so. Regarding winter, I want to say, it is true that in Germany there are places where you can ski, where you can do different activities related to snow. However, it is important. I think just so our fans know, not all of Germany has snow. For example, in the region where I live, which is the south-west of Germany, it is a warmer region, as I have already mentioned in other episodes. Then we have one or two days of snow and since the cold temperatures do not remain, the snow melts, it does not snow again. And then we have days in January, February, which are like maybe the months that people don’t enjoy as much because we don’t have snow and we have only cold days, without much sun, so consider this when planning your trip. And if they come in the cold season, just to do sports or activities that have to do with snow, yes, check where it is possible so that they enjoy it much more, right? That there are specific places, they are even more mountainous and so on. Well, so they can have a great time, right? And don’t go to some city where there might not be much snow and you can’t do that, right? And for and for example in in in excuse me, tell me Gibbo not just say that in a next chapter we are going to talk only about the Christmas markets and we are going to give you the recommendations of which is the most beautiful and surely we are going to debate a lot about that. But we have also done field work. I’m sure so, of course. We have information Yes, first-hand, no, nothing else written first-hand. Testing. Okay great. Mafer, in your region. What is the snow season like? There’s much snow. Long season, huh? This year I realized that it only snowed, I think twice, and not that hard. But in the part of, as I mentioned below, about Bayer as such in München, in Garmisch are the seasons where you can ski and you will find a lot of snow. What I can really recommend is that you have appropriate clothing, because the temperature is -15 degrees -20 degrees -25 degrees. It is very very cold and you need a good winter jacket. But it’s beautiful. Is beautiful. That’s right, that’s right, you Gibbo in in in Hamburg. Let snow fall there . Let it be snowing. Yes, we always, always have great landscapes. In the seven years that I have lived here, I think the lowest temperature we have had is -17 degrees. And yes, it was quite fresh, but that doesn’t mean fresh, for example, that’s not fresh, you know. Sorry to interrupt you, but you already looked very German, it’s cold, -17 degrees, nothing more. No, that’s nothing. But. But even then the lake called Alster or Alster could not freeze enough. But they say that years ago it froze enough for it to be a natural ice rink. So that’s what I wish, with all the desire, for it to happen one day so that I can experience it, because it must be beautiful then. But the canals that surround the city do freeze in some sections, right? So yes it is very nice. Hamburg in the winter too eh? In in in my region. Well, Siegen this whole part I’m between Cologne and Frankfurt. My city can snow one day and it lasts a maximum of three or four days. Snow, but then it starts to rain. Then he leaves. And one of the seasons that we haven’t talked about and I don’t know if it’s because of the allergy that it causes in us or that it causes in some people, is spring, not me. It’s one of the seasons, I know, but it’s one of the seasons that You’re just coming from the winter that lasted for years, winter, the fact that spring arrives comes with everything, right? Because at least here in Hamburg you start to see the flowers on the streets, the trees. Before you least realize it, they are green again and have leaves that you thought would never grow again. The leaves for winter and for and for snow. It also seems like a super nice time to come to me. The days are starting to be like you said, longer, right? And that makes it very inspiring to go out in Hamburg too. This time, for example, is when you start to see ice cream shops reopen, right? Which is a German tradition too. So the first day the thermometer reads a double digit, a double digit temperature is impressive. The lines at ice cream shops are endless, right? And that for me is a sign, a light at the end of the path of saying everything has hope and summer will come , right? So yes, spring. I don’t know how they make their cities, but here it is demonstrated when the ice cream parlors open and everything begins to flourish. Here in the city of Nuremberg there is an extremely large park where you can grill, because it is also very popular here. When the temperature starts to get high, all the people start to gather in squares or large parks where you can grill. But I also see that they also do a lot of camping here. I don’t know if you have realized that when the spring summer season comes, you see all the people and they start to buy their tents to go camping, to go to a nearby lake. It’s very nice, it’s something of some tradition. Yes Yes. And in Speyer Ale. Maybe I love how you say no, too. Everything is starting to turn green. You don’t realize when. And one of the things I like most about spring. And it will be because it is one of my favorite colors. There is a season that seems to me to be February and March, when the cherry and almond trees begin to bloom and then everything turns pink. Wonderful, yes. In fact, we have a photo of you on Instagram where Spring Things is precisely and one of the photos appears. For those who don’t see, visit our Instagram, because there we have a photo of precisely what you are talking about, right? How are the cherry trees? Those magnolias are very pretty. That is, this, this tone, this shade of whites and pinks that unlike autumn, which are more ocher colors, not yellow. It’s amazing and yes, the ice cream, which is a tradition in Germany. That is, whenever there is more heat, then it is like Eis essen not going to eat ice cream. And yes, here for example, in Speyer we have to be. I think we have more ice cream parlors than Iglesias, than ice cream parlors and coffee shops, because people also sit on the terraces to drink their tea or coffee. Your coffee. Cold coffe? No, cake and. And not ice cream, here almost every 20 meters there is an ice cream shop. And then, obviously they have to try almost all possible ice creams in different regions. I’ve noticed that too. There are so many different flavors. That’s something. A tradition here for many Italians who emigrated a while ago and so I think the quality of the ice cream is very good. And yes, spring doesn’t give me allergies, fortunately. So neither do I, neither do I. I am 100% allergic, so I already have to intervene a little, because although you say that spring is very beautiful, I also agree with you that it is one. It is a very beautiful season, however I cannot enjoy it 100% because I have a very very strong allergy. So my recommendation is that if you, as a traveler, know that you have a pollen allergy, for example, the truth is that at this moment I don’t remember the names in Spanish, but I am going to say them in German. For example, the Birke, the Hasel, the Papel Esche Erle, those types of trees that during the spring make that explosion of pollen, so be prepared with a little pill against allergies, because the truth is that you suffer a lot because if you didn’t say it, Gibbo didn’t say it. he said it. It is an explosion from one day to the next and it also lasts approximately two months, all this explosion and the trees. I have the advantage that exactly towards my balcony we have a tree behind us that is practically from one day to the next. It turns green, literally, from one day to the next it turns green and that change is very, very beautiful, but sad because I have to be inside my house watching the leaves fall. Yes, how everything is blooming, how everything is beautiful. I go for a walk and come back with with with, as if I had a cold, not with that Schnupfen, of course. Then it is. It’s super. I envy them. It sounds very depressing, but… Yes, yes, but depressing. Towards me, not towards me, really. But. But I still get to enjoy the season. I prepare well a few days before with my pills, with my inhalation, with drops everywhere to enjoy it at least a little. So, although it is beautiful, you also have to be careful, right? And I had only what I was going to say as you say. I mean, yes, spring also has a lot. I believe that each season has its beauty and its things to consider before jumping in and saying I’m leaving, so to close, hey I would like to say a recommendation in Hamburg for this time of spring, since we are recording this episode at this time and we just have a reel, a post on our social networks about that activity. And starting May 1, a light and sound show with fountains begins at the Planten und Blumen that we talked about at the beginning of the episode. AHA! So it is an activity that takes place at 10:00 p.m., every day starting May 1, people go to this park, to this place, and there is a spectacular light fountain show, free. That’s super important. Saying is free. And then one goes, he takes his blanket to have a picnic. It is very common for us all to meet there at eight or 9:00 p.m. to have a bite to eat and to have whatever each person wants. And then the show starts at 10:00 p.m. Yes, that is the recommendation I wanted to tell you in Hamburg. Super. Well, as you see, Kumpels every season. It has its nice thing. They have to revise a little for us too. We just said what our recommendation would be, our favorite season to come to Germany.
