Welcome back to Lovin’ it on Phuket!

In this video we will look at what it is like to fly from Bangkok to Seoul during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lives of everyone in some way. For travelers the COVID-19 pandemic has completely altered the way we travel.

This video was taken leaving Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to Incheon Airport in South Korea.
At the time of both Thailand and Korea were closed countries. They were not allowing any foreign visitors and very few planes were flying. Limited domestic flights just started in Thailand the week before and the airports were empty.

Boarding the Air Korea flight was a similar experience. Everyone was seated in a staggered. This is actually a huge bonus for the traveler. Think about it. You pay for an economy seat at a window and have enough room to lay out across at a minimum one other seat. There is no one else next to you just empty seat space and an isle.

Once I was seated I had to get my clean mask on for the flight. I decided on a black neoprene design. I then designated myself an airline ninja and sat back for some entertainment on the in flight entertainment system. That’s a fancy way of saying watched the tablet in the head rest of the seat in front of me. To my surprise what I was watching was actually the Korean Air in flight safety video. I thought it was a KPOP music video or something. I had no clue what was going on. Seriously check the video out, it’s not what you would expect from a safety video on an airline. Here is a link to it on Korean Airs channel :

Taking off at night from Suvarnabhumi Airport you could really tell there were no other flights in the area or running at the airport. Normally the sky would be full of small lights that would appear like dots from aircraft flying their patterns around Suvarnabhumi. The runways were also normally more full of life. Everything was just black and empty.

As the plane took off down the runway and into the sky it was bye to Bangkok for now. The view out the window over Nonthaburi was amazing. The months of lower air pollution and lack of light pollution really made the view clear and clean looking.

After a few hours passed and morning had come we were flying over Korea. As we approached Incehon we passed over some islands. The waters were busy with ships below us and it was clear summer was just around the corner as we passed over some farmers fields that were freshly tilled and planted.

Once landed in Seoul, there was a screening process at immigration. The screening was answering questions, taking of temperature and having a photograph taken. Other information was recorded from flight info as well.

The next step in getting to the quarantine terminal was to take the underground train or subway. It was very strange to take the train at Incheon and have it be so empty. Incheon is a very modern, busy airport and it was empty.

Once to terminal 2 where I had to wait in quarantine to get another flight I met the most delightful robot named Air Star. Air Star is a very helpful and playfully programmed robot that assists travelers in getting basic information about their flights and she is also available to take a photo of you or for you to take a photo with. Sadly she confessed to me that lately she is a bit bored. Apparently she never gets out of the airport…

This is what it is like to travel during COVID-19. This is what it is like to fly in Asia after the outbreak of Coronavirus. Will it get better? Yes. Will it be the same? Probably not.
