Start of my 5 Caminos from SJPDP-1500 KMS

I am an off track haer in Australia that uses ropes and tapes to get to remote areas like this to access magnificent waterfalls from below and from above and sometimes the risk outweigh the rewards as I dislocated my right shoulder and as I clung to The Cliff face my companions tied a rope around my waist and called me up to the tops and I spent 3 weeks in a sling during the month of February which gave me five weeks to the start of my planned five consecutive Caminos beginning s Jean port on April 1st I had done my ninth Camino last August in 40 degre heat and I wanted to do these Caminos in Spring to see the complete contrast of colors it all begins with a dream and dreams are made to be fulfilled I was born in Spain and my family migrated to Australia in 1962 when I was 9 years old my family returned to Spain and I visit Spain yearly to see my mom who is 94 and my sister who lives outside of Madrid we are now traveling south to Etha province of Seville where I was born to spend a few days for Easter celebration there is a cold front that is affecting the whole Iberian Peninsula and the rain turns to hail and then gives way to snow there are reports of lots of snow falling in the Pyrenees where in only a few days I will begin my walk from sjan P the [Music] port EA the city of churches or it’s commonly known in Spain as lartin the frying pan for its extreme heat looks quite the opposite with dark clouds moving [Music] in and its main Square looks deserted as Easter Parade celebrations are put on hold we visit this church that my grandfather when he was alive used to carry the chisto galon and paraded it along the city streets during Easter celebrations so back in Madrid where the weather seems more favorable and the Easter parades have gone ahead you [Music] [Music] back in my hotel room near B Del PR and just opposite a brightly illuminated aacha train station all packed and ready to go to catch my train to bumlon where I will overnight then catch the midday bus to sjan P the port these next 2 days will be the most difficult for me as I will have to carry my 40 L pack on my left shoulder as my recently dislocated right shoulder has not recovered fast enough and I will be only able to carry a 2 kilo day pack and have my larger pack sent by Courier on a daily basis on the train I need a fellow Pilgrim a Turkish American Nam armed it will be his first Camino and when he arrives in pona he will head off to the airport to pick up his wife and go to S Johan pport you checked out this Castle [Music] wow ponas is a large square and where I have lunch with two Brazilians that I met when I exited the train in ponas railway station Marcio and Peter it was their first Camino and they asked me for directions to the city center to have something to eat before heading off to S John P the port [Music] I [Music] I find it surreal that I’m back in St John petport so soon it was only last August when I was here to do my eighth and Ninth Camino at age 70 and here I am last day of March ready to start my 10th Camino aged 71 and according to my plans there is an 11th 12 12 and 13th Camino all the four cardinal entries into Santiago Camino Franz from the East finister Mia from the West Camino Eng from feral the North and Camino Inno from Pon fera that joins the Camino SES from the south forming a perfect cross what an adventure only minor problem is that since my accident at end of January I only have the complete use of my left arm and that I succumb to a shooting pain in my right shoulder blade every 50 minutes that forces me to stop rest and compose myself before beginning again and not knowing what lasting damage I might do to the shoulder by continuing on [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] they check only from here to here they are not interested in that it’s impossible to all of these One Step a day minimum San two [Music] okay although I’m starting on April 1st which is officially the first day that the Napoleon route is open the Pilgrim’s office advises us that Napolean route unfortunately is closed as the recent rains that fell as snow in the Ines has rendered the past dangerous the only option is the volarus route some stages along the highway that I had come down this morning on the bus it had been raining very hard some 30 MS of rain had fallen and the miserable weather showed in the faces of the pilgrims who walked that stage this morning however weather has improved and there is plenty of blue skies for tomorrow’s first day

A special thanks to Robert a witty mad cap Scotsman that I met on the Camino Frances for his drone footage, his YouTube channel France to Santiago for the Beatson Cancer Charity @robmaco

I have done nine Caminos in the past the most recent only last August of 2023 from SJPDP. I am an off track hiker from Australia who was born in Spain and my family migrated to Australia in 1962 when I was nine years old and I visit Spain almost yearly to visit my mum who is 94 and my sister who lives outside of Madrid. I do Caminos to reconnect with my country of birth and to bring another dimension to the hard risky bushwalking activities where I enter extremely hard to access areas and as I found out in late January harder to get out as when exiting a gorge I dislocated my right shoulder and as I clung to the cliff face my companions tied a rope around my waist then hauled me up to the tops.
After my eighth and ninth Caminos last August I planned in November to do four consecutive Caminos all the cardinal points to enter Santiago. Beginning in SJPDP, the Camino Frances from the east, Finisterre, Muxia from the west, Camino Ingles from Ferrol from the North and from Ponferrada the Camino de Invierno that joins the Camino Sanabres from the south, forming a perfect cross.
After my near death experience trying to exit the gorge I had the painful recuperation period of trying to gain some feeling in my right shoulder (normally the recuperation is between four to six months) and after having an arm in a sling for three weeks in February I only had five weeks to regain my fitness levels and build some strength in my right shoulder. I knew that it seemed like an impossible task to be able to carry anything more then a two kg daypack and have my larger 40 lt backpack sent by courier on a daily basis and even then I experienced strong sharp pain on my shoulder blade every fifty minutes or so that forced me to stop, rest and compose myself.
All thoughts of four consecutive Caminos gone totally from my mind as I arrived in SJPDP, it seemed surreal that I was only here last August. This video is the start of this adventure and the many challenges and great moments shared with many people from all over the world. The title says five consecutive Caminos yet the plan was four so come with me to find out how it came about to do 1500 kms beginning with such difficult circumstances. Thank You and Buen Camino
